Plavix And Leukemia (Page 3) (Top voted first)
UpdatedIs there a connection? My husband received 2 stents, one in October 2008 and a medicated one in November 2008. He was then placed on Plavix. In November 2009 he was diagnosed with AML leukemia, he passed away 6/2010 at the age of 56. There was no obvious reason for him to get leukemia, it is rare for someone that young to have AML. We know that his heart disease was genetic. He was very health conscious, always ate healthy, exercised and was in great physical condition. I have read little tidbits about Plavix causing bone marrow damage and am wondering if there are other Plavix patients that have or had Leukemia. Thanks, Chris
My mom has been diagnosed with ITP. TTP's cousin.
I am sure you already know that is most likely cause by the plavix also. I am sorry that your Mom has to go through this. Hope she doing OK!
Thank you. I would love to spread the word about possible side effects connecting AML to Plavix.
My father had a heart attack and a stent placed. Dunno if he was put on any blood thinners. Around six months later, he was diagnosed with leukemia. The doctor explained that this is not uncommon. It is not from the stents, nor is it from the drugs. But some types of leukemia, your body produces too many of certain types of blood cells, and they don't behave correctly. Therefore, you're more likely to have a heart attack requiring stenting *from the leukemia.* The overproduction of cells can start happening before you're sick enough for the leukemia to be diagnosed.
Now, that's what the doc explained to us, and I have no more information than that. But it makes a lot of sense to me.
That is very interesting. What type of Leukemia did he have?
Kathy,
I have researched the effect of statin drugs, such as Zocor on our bodies, in regards to muscles aches and pains most specifically. It seems that these drugs deplete our naturally occuring CoEnzymeQ10 (Ubiquinol) in our cells. This important enzyme helps to produce energy at the cellular level. You can take CoEnzymeQ10 as an over the counter supplement to help replace that which is destroyed by the statin drug (Zocor, Simvastatin, etc). I had a lot of relief in one week from the muscle aches and joint pains I was experiencing on Simvastatin. I discontinued taking the drug but continue to take CoQ10 a few times a week. Please take some time to read about this supplement on the internet and how it benefits our bodies. Supposedly, some doctors now ask their patients who take statin drugs for high cholesterol to add the CoQ10 to their daily regimen. I am not a doctor, but I can tell you that it helped me tremendously to recover from the effects of the statins.
Follow-up to my earlier post. My mother died October 25, 2011, only 3 weeks after receiving her diagnosis. I was mistaken, too, in that my mother was taking Plavix for 5 years, according to my brother. It is alarming to me that Plavix is still being prescribed when it is so dangerous.
Kathy, I'm so sorry about your mom. I lost mine on Oct 1, 2011 on my 50th birthday. She died 3 days after being diagnosed. She was only 70 and like your mom she was very active. I will not stop until I get some answers about Plavix and potential link to AML.
On another note, I brought my cholesteral down by using a lemon flavored emulsion (fish oil) with omega 3 6 9. And its all natural. I order it from National Discount Vitamins. $27 a bottle and it lasts a month.
I had a medicated stent in Nov of 06. In Dec of 08 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and Crinic Lymphitic leukemia.... Been fighting it ever since and doctors want to start cimo. Never ending trail of lies to suck your money. I have three friends of friends that have stents and all have leukemia as well. After reading for a few days now I am convinced there is a connection. My stent is plugging up as well and they are suggesting a stent in the stent and Plavix mandatory for a year. If they knew anything they would never breath a word, that goes for the oncologists as well, keep the stents and Plavix rolling so I can extort the last dollar.
Thank you for sharing your story Dale. I am so sorry that you are going through this. We need to keep gathering stories of Plavix and Leukemia and make someone listen to us! Every week I am shocked by how many people have contacted me. Best wishes to you---Chris
I received a stent in May 2011 and given Plavix to take for a year. I was diagnosed with AML Leukemia in January 2012 after a routine blood test. I am currently through the induction phase of therapy. I do not believe this is coincidence at all.
I have seen several alliterative Med Doctors now. They claim without question the Plavix suppresses the blood and bone marrow over time. I have been on it for 5 years now. I pulled myself off 2 months ago. I cannot believe these doctors kept me on this. Two different cardiologists as well. It says clear 6 months to a year in the recommendations. I am going into a wellness center in Newport Beach for two weeks that administers a series of integrated therapies. I will keep a post of how things go after that. I am all ears to a law firm that might be initiating actions over all this. Thank you.
HI Tom,
Please keep us update on how your therapy goes. You are in my prayers.---Chris
Hi Dale,
Thank you for the update. I still have not heard of any lawyers that are interested but I will sure let you know. Good luck! Keep us updated---Chris
I certainly will. Thanks
My father has been on Plavix for more than 3 years and on 2/10/2012 he was diagnosed with AML M6. The doctor gave him a few weeks to live. We are so sad.
Oh my gosh! I am so sorry Silvana. You are in my prayers---Chris
My sister was diagnosed with AML 3wks ago and had been taking plavix for 6 years. She is only 36 and has two small children. A cardiologist at the hospital where she was treated asked about her taking plavix and a possible link between plavix and leukemia
Angie, my mother took Plavix for two years and also got AML. We actually lost her in June of 2010 as there were few options for her at 75 years old. I always felt that the Plavix caused the AML and posted here long ago. I am so sorry to hear that your sister has been diagnosed. There are many more options for her thank God, as she is young. Don't forget to check out the Gerson Therapy also (nutritional therapy). With your sister only being 36, I feel this is a huge red flag that Plavix is causing the leukemia in patients. Please file a complaint/report with the FDA. I filed one when my mother passed. They NEED to hear about the PLAVIX- leukemia connection, and how many people have been affected. I will be thinking of and praying for your sister.
Chris, this recent post by Angie regarding her 36 year old sister really upsets me. This should be a huge red flag to the makers of PLAVIX and the FDA. Let me know if you ever find and lawyer interested in pursuing this. Today is my mom's 78th birthday.......and she isn't here to celebrate because of the AML she passed of in June 2012. She was on PLAVIX for two years.....
