I recently had a UTI and was given Bactrim for three days and felt better. It's been almost a week and I suddenly have the symptoms back long with lower back pain. Seeing that it is almost 7:30 pm on a Sunday, I will have to wait until tomorrow morning to call and go in and see the doctor. The doctor was pleased that I stopped taking Phenazopyridine two days before going in for the urine culture to detect the UTI. Will Phenazopyridine interfere with diagnostics for a kidney infection? I would love to be able to relieve some of my symptoms before morning, but I will not if it means they will not get the proper results for the diagnostics they need. ## The only warning I've found on anything like this has to do with it interfering with urinary diagnostics for diabetics, although y...

2 REPLIES UpdatedI purchased AZO in Mexico and was told it was a combination of a sulphur based antibiotics plus pain reliever for UTI. Does this actually contain antibiotics or is it just like the US brand Azo, an over the counter pain reliever for UTI? ## Hello, Kirsten! How are you? I'ms sorry, but I can't find any information on Azo from Mexico. Is there anything written on the packaging? I realize it may be in Spanish, but that's fine, if you can post back with anything it says. The U.S. formulation of Azo in the standard formulation is listed as containing Phenazopyridine, it is used to alleviate the pain associated with UTIs. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include dizziness, headache, indigestion and itchy skin. ## Until I can get back to the U.S. I need ...

9 REPLIES UpdatedCan urovec mess with your menstrual cycle? I haven't had my period and this is kinda freaking me out. ## If you haven't previously experienced any changes in your menstral cycle prior to taking Urovec then it is very likely that this medication is the culprit (assuming that you aren't taking anything else?). Urovec contains the active ingredient Phenazopyridine. The most common side effects tend to be headaches, dizziness, and an upset stomach. More severe, less common side effects can include: yellowing of the skin or eyes fever confusion skin discoloration (blue to bluish-purple) shortness of breath skin rash sudden decrease in the amount of urine swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or legs I've read several patient experiences in the past on various medications where...
3 REPLIES Updatedsmall round pinkish pill with the number 10 and lupin on it ## My urine color is an orangey/red tone after taking one pill. Is this normal? The pharmacy did not supply a side effect list. ## A round, pink tablet with Lupin on one side and 10 on the other is listed by Lupin as containing 10mgs of Lisinopril. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Andy, if you are taking Phenazopyridine, it can cause urine to be odd colored. What are the markings on the tablets you are taking?

6 REPLIES UpdatedWill phenazopyridine 200mg help someone I know pass a drug test? He has less than 24 hours to take one. If it won't help can you tell me something that will? I got told to drank a glass of vinegar and drank a gallon of water and their system will be clean for the next day. Please let me know what will help. Thanks. ## I'm just gonna say that along with about 2 cups pickle juice and perhaps a 1/2 gallon of water and 4 pills about 30 min prior to test ....and I never heard a thing about it. No news=good news. And I was still feeling the effects that morning... ## Well did you ever get the news? I have some. It's Tuesday and I had cocaine yesterday morning. My drug test is Thursday.
2 REPLIES UpdatedIf I take BOTH, will that most likely cure my UTI? Should I take an antibiotic too? ## Has your doctor told you to take them both? The z pack is an antibiotic. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. ## Z-Pack is indeed an antibiotic and the entire course should be taken, as with any antibiotic. If not you're more like to have the infection come back in short order. The other medication, phenazopyridine is used to help the pain associated with urination. This medication can turn your urine (more often than not) orange as well as your feces (hasn't happened to me but has been reported to do this). So in answer to you question to should you take both: Absolutely take the antibiotic. Not doing s...
3 REPLIES Updatedls Phenazopyridine 100mg available over the counter or do you have to get a Dr. to write a script for it? And is there an over the counter medication that's like Phenazopyridine? ## Yes, there is a version that is available over the counter. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, and discolored urine. However, you should be aware that this will treat the pain of a urinary tract infection, but will not do anything to eradicate the infection itself. Are you on any other medications? Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedAround 7pm today I started experiencing UTI like symptoms. This time last year, 2/15/16, I was also treated for a UTI and was prescribed phenazopyridine and sulfamethoxazole. I was waiting an hour while drinking glasses and glasses of water before I knew it was a UTI. Once I determined it was, I had one of each of my old prescriptions, until I can go pick up a new one tomorrow morning. However, the phenazopyridine doesn't seem to be relieving my symptoms, and the pain when I urinate is getting worse. My urine is also yellow, not orange. Even from the beginning to now. Is it because the prescription is just over a year old? Any suggestion? I'm in quite a bit of pain. ## It is hard to say, medications do lose efficacy with time, but it could also be due to a different strain of ba...

2 REPLIES UpdatedHello! I went to the Doctor for kidney and bladder pain. I had taken azo in effort to help some symptoms that seemed like a uti. Not pain while peeing, only after emptying bladder. Tested positive for nitrites and glucose. Tested blood sugar and it was normal. Urine was sent for a culture and came back negative. Could the azo have affected the nitirites and glucose dip stick test for a false positive?
UpdatedHave used pyridium (generic) off and on for 22 yrs. for chronic flare ups of Urethral Syndrome. Now can't hardly find it or it has gone up to $1000 for 3 mo supply. What gives and what else can I use. It is not an infection but chronic pain condition. ## Hello, Marge! How are you? I'm sorry that you're having so much trouble getting your prescription filled. The only thing I've been able to find is that there is a shortage due to manufacturing delays, which explains why it's hard to find and so expensive, when you do find it. There is one available over the counter, have you looked for it? It's sold under the brand name Uristat. Otherwise, I'm not seeing any other alternatives available. Did you ask your doctor? They might know what else would work. Side effe...
3 REPLIES UpdatedI have not had a UTI since 2011 and have recently moved. Not having a new doctor yet, besides the fact of being snowed in, and I know this is the beginning of a UTI, can this Rx be taken? Does it become toxic or just lose it's potency? It would help until I can get to a doctor on Saturday. ## Hello, BeeGee! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the UTI. No, Phenazopyridine is not known to become toxic, once expired, but it does start to lose potency, as do all medications. Thus, it would be best to obtain a new supply. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, fatigue, headache and discolored urine. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedI've got side affects chills and it making my teeth yellowish omg has anyone else had these side affects from azo ## Hello, Anna Rae! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. No, neither of those are listed as being known side effects. Its typical ones, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include headache, rash, upset stomach and discoloration of urine. Are you also on an antibiotic? There are some of them that can cause discoloration of your teeth and the UTI itself might be causing the chills you're experiencing.
1 REPLY UpdatedWhat is a small round pill, w on one side blank on other may be M instead of W ## Hi Paula, Based on my research, a round brown/maroonish colored pill with a W on one side and blank on the other, is reportedly identified as a 95mg Azo-Standard (Phenazopyridine) tablet used for urinary tract pain and discomfort. Apparently it's available as an over-the-counter medication. For added verification, the National Drug Code for this particular tablet is listed as 009980015. After coming across an image of the pill online, I can easily understand how the W might've been mistaken for an M! Hope this info helps!
