Percocet Dosage Question For Kidney Stone Pain
UpdatedI was prescribed 5/325 mg tablets and told to take 1-2 for pain from kidney stone surgery. I did NOT have it filled because I still had some at home. I took one about 90 minutes ago and realized that they are 10/325. Is it ok to take another one or would that be dangerous. I know nothing about pain meds.

It would depend on your tolerance and if you're taking any other medications. For someone not used to taking opiates 20mg of Oxycodone is quite a bit. However, it's not enough, in my opinion, to worry about overdose. You'll likely just get very sleepy. If you just took a 10/325 why do you feel the need to take another so soon?
Also, if you're taking a benzodiazepine or muscle relaxant be careful. These drugs combined with Oxycodone can synergistically cause respiratory depression which could lead to coma or death. Especially if you have little to no opioid tolerance.
I'm a stone former myself and just last week had an ESWL procedure. I've been passing stones for the past week and generally 1 10/325 percocet will hold off the pain for about 3-4 hours. I'm not very tolerant to opioids myself plus I take xanax for ptsd. I won't take anymore than 50mg of Oxycodone in a 24 hour period just to be safe (that's 5 10/.25 percocets).
Just try to take it as prescribed on the label. I know the pain from stones sucks but dying from respiratory depression would suck even more!
And another case where I have to agree with Mason. It is always best to take something as prescribed, so it the 10/325 says to just take one, then it would be best to follow those instructions. Taking to much of the Acetaminophen in this can cause fatal toxicity, and there is also the risk of taking too much of the Oxycodone. The FDA warns that it also carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.
I've been there, too, and would not wish a kidney stone on anyone, that pain is horrible to deal with. Luckily I passed the few I've had, without a problem, and I am just hoping I don't experience a day that one doesn't pass.
The first time I had a kidney stone was about 5 years ago, and I still have some tablets, of the medication I was prescribed, because I hate taking them, if I don't have to, they are far past expiration, and I guess I just need to take them to my pharmacy to dispose of them, when I am there, again. LOL
What type of procedure did you have to remove them, Npain?
