Percocet Addiction And Withdrawal (Page 2)
UpdatedSomeone please tell me how long it takes to withdrawal from percocet and what is expected day by day?
Sorry, but she is definetly lying to you and you should be worried about the amount she is taking. It's huge. I was taking half of that and I had to go through Suboxone Detox to stop taking oxycodone. There is no way in hell she just stopped liked that and now is cured. Withdrawals in itself are so hard and at the amount she is taking, your daughter, she would show signs of withdrawals within 5-6 hours after her last dose.
Don't believe an addict unless you saw it with your own eyes. That's the best advice I can give you.
The message I just posted was for JAMES!
One Day at a time...do not give up 5 minutes before the miracle! : )
AMEN!
Hey there. I'm going through the withdrawl now after taking upwards of 20 Percy's a day after my dr prescribed for three herniated discs on my neck. Been taking for the last 5 years. It's so tough. I'm taking immodium ad 6 tablets relieved the wrenching in my stomach enough to tolerate anyway. Also taking L tyrosine 2000 mg, vit b12, folic acid, a multivitamin and drinking ensure since I have no appetite. My cousin detoxes from meth by himself and he told me sleep as much as you can. I've been doing that too and the Tylenol pm helps with the insomnia. I hope I've helped someone. I'm only on day two and its awful but I'm getting through it. I've been told by my dr days 2-4 are the worst then it gets better each day. Oh I've also got a clonidine patch on that the dr said will help some. Good luck to u!

When someone seeks help, you help them, don't post stupid things. Not everyone withdrawing from Pain Killers are drug addicts or have a problem.
Think about it next time.

Was wondering how everything is? Did you and your husband kick off the habit? How is your Daughter?

Percs, Oxy's, Heroin, Morphine, etc are all narcotics in the Opium family.
Withdrawal time and symptoms depend on the amount being taken, length of use and any cross addiction (additional substances used.)
I spent 30 years as a professional musician and a heroin addict. From experience I can tell you that the best way to detox is to go into a treatment facility with the resources, support staff and experience to help you. They also have aftercare programs that will greatly increase your chances of staying clean.
While it is possible to "get clean" at home, there are generally too many possibilities to relapse in an unsupervised situation.
Without a doubt the worst possible place to detox is in a prison cell. Again, I know this from experience. (They have a saying in AA, "from Yale to jail" and it's true.) While I didn't attend Yale, I did attend another Ivy League institution and addiction does not discriminate. Many people try to hide from the stigma attached to opiate addiction. Its unnecessary and counter productive as the best way to get and stay clean is with the help of other addicts by attending 12-step meetings.
The first few days are the worst. Sleeplessness, restlessness, muscle aches, physical discomfort, cold sweats, diarrhea, vomiting and muscle spasm are the most common symptoms. They call it "kicking" the habit because many people, myself included, literally kick their legs wildly while in the throes of a "cold turkey" withdrawal (I.E. Without benefit of any medication to ease the symptoms.)
The worst symptoms begin to lessen after 4 or 5 days but most people don't "feel right" for a 2 or 3 months.
Analgesics (aspirin, tylenol) will help with the aches and pains. Immodium helps with diarrhea and intestinal discomfort. Warm drinks (tea, cocoa) help with chills. Hot showers or baths help a lot also.
Lack of appetite is also common and most if not all will experience insomnia. I generally can't sleep more than an hour per night for about 90 days after cessation of narcotics. After about a week, an increase in appetite causes most of us to start gaining back some of the weight we lose when using, (I am 5'11" and normally weigh 185 lbs. The last time I went into a rehab I weighed 145 lbs.)
This is a very dangerous time as many addicts, though still weak, feel well enough to get up and start getting back to our daily routines. For most of us, that means interacting with other addicts and often the opportunity arises to get high again. Most people relapse within 2 weeks and the vicious cycle begins again.
During the first 2-3 days most addicts feel like they are going to die but, contrary to popular belief, opiate withdrawal is generally not life threatening, unlike alcohol or benzo (xanax, valium, etc) detox.
NEVER EVER try to detox from alcohol or benzo's on your own. It can be fatal.
My wife had a seizure and died while trying to detox herself from alcohol.
My best friend likewise had a seizure and died while trying to detox from xanax on his own.
Try to get into a detox or rehab. Attend 12-step meetings.
Good Luck
If you have been taking percocet for a while and it is starting to not help your pain you should speak to your doc about fentynal patches they are way better than percocet but can very deadly if used improperly. If you truly take for pain you will be alright because the patch ( which they no longer should be in gel form) time releases over a three day period and you should start with a 25 mcg patch or obiously whatever your doc says.
I just got off of oxy's. Took them for 6 months for a back injury. The problem now is Percocet as I have Fibromyalgia. I have been taking 4 - 10/325 a day for 2 years and feel like I should be backing off to see where my body is at - fibro speaking. Ok, so I'm down to 3 a day and I have to tell you the leg pain is becoming unbearable. Is this normal withdrawal?? I also have agitation, restlessness, hurt all over when it's time to have my dose, sometimes I'm really hungry other times forget about it, no food. Oh and I can't concentrate and do not want to be around PEOPLE!!!!!! ugh Any comments appreciated
Hello, ive been taking 10mg perc for one year then down to 7.5 mg @ 4 times a day but I generally take about 7 per day I quit 3 days days ago a friend gave me 5 of the 10mg methadone pills to help get thru the first days I split them in halfs and today ive taken nothing and I have minor aches but nothing too bad I only feel blah just tired but the first two days had diareah and runny bose the methadones helped all other symptoms, i dont ever want to go back. I feel lucky to so far feel ok and know I can do this and so can u if you want : ) good luck to u all.
I have been taking percocet for 6 years now and take on average 12 - 14 TECS/Pills a day. My life has been pretty much focused on when i am going to run out and where i can get more before then. I am no stranger to living the agony of withdrawl and i would say describing it as being hit by a freight train is a good analogy. Almost 2 years ago i was unable to attain any percs for 21 days, which was the first day i could say i was actually feeling human and normal. I got my percs on the 21st day and decided not to take them as i has suffered so greatly and did not want to ever relive that suffering. I went another 4 months with not taking a single perc, but i continued to keep filling my perscription of 300 percs monthly and was going to just set them aside just incase the day came i really needed them for the pain and i could no longer get them refilled due to my doctor retiring or finally cut me off. During that 4 month period i felt so unbelievably more alive and better. I then had injury again and thought i'd only take a few to get me thru and would not allow myself to get re-addicted....yup you can guess how well that went. anyway it's day 5 cold turkey of no perc, day 5 of zero sleep, serious stomach cramping and runs , day 5 of shivering and pouring sweat ten times in 5 minutes every 5 minutes, and my personal favorite the restless legs that are so bad i have considered sawing them off..I will be getting my refill available in 4 days and i am just praying this will have eased up enough that i don't breakdown and refill and go through all this for nothing yet again. i am pretty certian this is the last go around on this sick merry go round for me...i want my life back. for those of you whom are wondering what helps with withdrawl, the best advise i can give is a full vitamin regime , lots of ibprofin or advil. STAY AWAY from anything that has antihistamines and anti naseau pills...either of those will be like feeding your restless leg syndrome kryptonite! For all you out there suffering, stay strong and know this will eventually pass and there is a good life just waiting to be had again.
RICHtix, good luck to you : ) im on day 5 & feeling okay funny yoi mentioned to stay away from allergy meds cause I actually had to take them today living in seattle with super bad allergies is hell....i get my refill in two weeks and my friend who which gets hers monday and we usually borrow from each other since we get them 10 days apart im nervous ill give in on monday or when I get my refill, another thing is I had planned on taking a few to in two weeks to get through my first period that ive had in 6months I know it will be very painful but im scared that even if I take 3 of them ill be hooked and I dont want that......and also a question for you, do you really feel super great after a few weeks of being off the pills?
Hey Jmari,
in answer to your question , a big yes. i actually forgot how good i used to feel and how much energy and drive i used to have until i got to the 3 week free of percs. it is only because of that i am planning to "sweat" this out for the last time. I don't know what it's like for everyone else and i am sure how many you take and for how long has pretty big impact on the length and severity of the withdrawl. My point being is that knowing I have another 2 weeks to live this , is very daunting, but that may not be the case for everyone else as they may have been on a lesser dosage. Either way , it's worth the hell ofnsuffering to break the chains of this life controling drug. In a way maybe it's better to suffer longer ,as you sure as heck really rethink breaking down and getting hooked again..lol that's what i am telling myself anyway. my advise if you have gone this long and want to get off this ride, don't do it, stay away , do not take even one pill....for me i can say i have never once just taken one pill and not been back at it full force within a weeks time. I wish you well and really hope you can stay strong cause as long as we take these pills , life is passing by and we are being robbed of the joy of it.
Thank you soooo much, please keep updating as you go and I will also. I havent had anyone to talk to couldnt dare tell my family or any of my friends besides the one I would trade with and it helps me to talk about it. I well respected career ay a mortuary from everything that ive seen there you think that would of made it easier for me to quit but it didnt
hey Jmari,
How you holding out? It's day 9 for me, and even though it's a little better, it's still a struggle. i still have not been able to sleep more than an hour a nite and i use the word sleep very loosely. I know it's going to be likely another week before i feel better and am not shivering and sweating all nite. The worst part is i got my perscription renewed today, but i am not going to take any today or tonight and then tomorrow , i'll renew the same deal with myself...otherwise all this hell was just for nothing. Let me know how your doing.
Hey, thats awesome youre doing great : ) im still going this may come as a surprise but I did take just one pill to knock out a major migrane and afterwards so I was mad at myself thinking look what I just did this one pill can put me right back to where I was so I took a long hot shower and cried then went to bed and woke up monday just fine didnt have any craving to take another or anything that made me so happy. I have been suffering the past week and ive decided I will go ahead and get surgery done on my hand I woke up all night long with it being numb and feeling like a metal rod thats 1000 degrees hot was being pushed through my elbow down my arm into my hand and throughout it I still managed to not give in to the meds I know after the sugery this will all go away. Thanks for the update, please continue : )
Jmari, good for you. If you can take it only when the pain is accute and then give yourself 24 to 48 hours before having another dose, you just might be ok. The key is to not let yourself fall into the daily trap of it. I guess it also comes down to quality of life too, if your pain out weighs the addiction part of it...Then I'd say you are managing the pain as intended until you get through your surgery...Do not be too hard on yourself, it's not just the addiction to a powerful substance, it's trying to balance the quality of life without. know this, you know now that you can survive and have the strength to get off the pain killers if the pain has been dealt with to the point it's managable. Many people, myself included are so addicted to just the drug it's self and the pIn management is truly only secondary. The fact that you are doing what you are now, says you do not want this to rule your life and are making choices to try and fix the problem without just medicaticating and masking it . I am proud of you, you took only what you needed to get you through the moment and did not just dose again for the sake of just medicating. You keep doing what you are doing and you will be free of this and hopefully your surgery will be a quick recovery. Keep in mind that you may need to have pain killers immediately after surgery to get through the healing, and that's ok so long as you keep focused to get them as soon as possible.
