Percocet Withdrawal Symptom?

I have a friend that was addicted to percocet. She was taking on average 12 pills (10s) a day. She stopped cold turkey and has been clean for 13 days. She has experienced all the talked about side effects (sleeplessness, irritability, depression, etc.). Tonight, however, it was something completely different. She was slurring her words, she wobbled when she walked, she didn't have any idea what was going on like where she had been or what she had been doing. Could this also be a withdrawal symptom? It was shocking and scary to me because it has been 13 days off the drug and this is the first that anything like this has happened. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I believe she went sober for the 13 days and then took one too much. I am so sorry to hear about this incident. I have been clean for a year and 10 months. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS and difficult as well as not as big of a chance she will stay with her sobriety unless she gets help...I took seboxen...It is definitely an empirical drug trust me. She will not have withdrawal symptoms and will be able to sleep. Your body eventually relies on those opiates in order to sleep. So Please let her know and she will live a happy sober life!

Wising you the best. Don't wait to find a doctor, somewhere. It usually takes a while once you call, to actually get in. You don't want to be in the throws of withdrawal on your own. You need to start searching now. Call your local county medical association and ask if they have names of pain doctors that you can call. Hopefuly there will be one who can work you in, when you tell them your situation. This has worked for me many times in my doctor searches .

the same thing happened to a loved one of mine,hallucinations ,talking about strange things,false memories,being oblivious to everything,this all happened as a result of quitting cold turkey,the same medication,it is very scary but no lasting effects,have them wean down very slowly and they will be just fine

This can be a withdrawal symptom, that was a large amount to be taking and go off of, cold turkey, without a doctor's support.

It takes awhile to get out of her system, a month or more, depending on how long she was taking them, so the longer she is off, for the first month or so, the worse her withdrawal symptoms may get.

If it seems very dangerous, always contact or take her to, your nearest emergency treatment facility.

Hi,
Im am addiction concelor and no that isnt a side effects.Withdraw from opiods is not fatal, these symtoms will pass. But I beleive shetook something else, those side effects arnt from opiod withdraw!!

Don't go the suboxe or methedone rought. She used again and didn't tell you. Get her to a program, and stick by her she is lucky to have a friend like you. Percocet is a baby drug compred to the others I mentionedShe will need a sponcer too. She could slip no big deal. If she keeps repeating the same behavior or keeps lieing to you or hersellf. Get away from her, she will cause you alot of heaetache. Watch close you will know the difference, Be her frind she needs one if this a one time thing. Watch your back, it is important too.

quiting cold turkey is very dangerous and can cause seizures!Which can kill a person and has.
She needs to see a doctor and hopefully will get on suboxone. That will take away the withdraw symptoms. However that will need to be stoped but slowly. I know from past experience.

withdraw can be fatal. How can a drug councelor possibly know something like that! Talk to any real doctor and soon.

Suboxone seems to be the drug of choice to stop taking narcotics including, but not limited to Percocet. It takes away the side effects while going through withdrawal. There are phantom symptoms as well as real ones and it is best to go through a Dr. Your body will fool you to get you to take the drug again, as you are no longer feeling the way it made you feel. When there is a lesser amount of dopamine in your body from long use of these drugs, your body still want them, and your mind tricks you into finding a way to have you take the drug again. If you can go through a program to get off the meds with use of Suboxone, this is the best way I have seen people succeed. Many people try on their own, but side effects are overwhelming for them...some are real, some are your mind tricking you to convince you to take the pills again. Best of luck to you.

You are wrong, that is a possible side effect and nolne mentioned anything about it possibly being fatal.

Opiate withdrawal doesn't cause seizures.opiate withdrawal is nothing. Try going through 10 years of bentos at a high dosage. Hell!!! Alcohol and bentos cause seizures.

Those Percocet can have adverse reaction it could take as much as a year to five years to completely be normal I have battle many years and many rehabs to battle the addiction I have tell your friend to just hang in there It does get better with time.

I totally agree. I have been on Valium for several years. I have PTSD and extreme anxiety. Not having Valium will KILL you. My doctor told me that when the anxiety gets better he will hospitalize me to withdrawal from Valium. I can go a few days, but I have been through Vicodin withdrawal and it does not come close to benzo withdrawal! Even while my husband is picking up my prescription for Valium, if I am having a bad day, whew! I feel like I will die! I have actually had a seizure when I ran out of benzo while in Bermuda. I am currently taking 4-6 #10 norcos a day and I know my body is dependent on them. It sucks. People have no clue they think I have the perfect life. I am scared to take subuxone, so I am going to go cold turkey. I do plan to visit an addiction Doctor beforehand. He, himself was addicted and had to work to get his medical license back, so I think he will understand. I do not have cravings, I am just avoiding withdrawal at this point. I am sick of this. I used to look down on addicts. I am a finess model, have a law degree as well. I do not drink, nor smoke. Never thought this would happen to me, but it did. I will never judge someone else's journey. My love of fitness caused the multiple injuries that landed me with a bottle of pain meds that my doctor kept me on for my entire physical therapy. Nine months. I stopped taking them after, felt like crap. Never made the connection. My mom told me. I then took a pill and I felt better. I wish she never told me, but I did this to myself. Sorry for the long post. I feel alone.

It seems very clear that you are not a drug and alcohol COUNSELOR considering you couldn't even spell your PROFESSIONAL TITLE. COUNSELORS are not physical medical doctors nor psychiatrists. Therefore to say it definitely is not from opioid withdraw you are diagnosing without seeing or gathering pertinent info from/about the patient and FYI COUNSELOR, most addicts are dual diagnosed patients. Therefore it is very possible that considering the usage amount/time and how it was administered play a big part in someone's withdrawal symptoms/intensity and without being seen by a medical Dr. it is impossible to say what is causing these symptoms and one can only assume however with symptoms this severe a PROFESSIONAL would strongly recommend RECEIVING EMT for proper evaluation and treatment.

It's the most horrible feeling. I have been there too! You just want to die. Your sick for soooo long. Never again. I will not take oxy's or percocets heavy nor everyday again.

Any withdraw without medical supervision has the potential to be fatal (especially with alcohol and opiates). Someone's second to third hand knowledge/experience should not trump the advice and knowledge of a professional drug counselor or medical professional. Be safe and best wishes!
