Percocet 30mg Immediate Release? (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've been taking 240 Percocet 10/325 for over 10 yrs with 60 mg MS Contin twice a day for breakthrough pain. When I'm out of the blue my doctor sends me to a pain management specialist because he says he can't write for any narcotic over 120 tabs a month. I go to this new doc who wants to inj. something in my spine in an area he calls the sweet spot, and that I have been over medicated by my other doctor but only after a MRI which I had and I went back after my scan and it turns out I don't have a sweet spot. My thecal sac is 5.4 and gets worse the lower it goes. So he sends me to a surgeon with a script for Percocet 15 mg and it's not touching my pain. I was wondering if I should request something stronger? I was at least able to function with my old med plan but I'm not certain if I should ask to have my current management plan increased since he thought I was over medicated before, I wasn't sure if they made a Percocet 30mg rapid release?
Julie, thanks for telling me about your surgery. I have never had surgery because of what I hear. When I was forced to go to a Pain Dr recently, the nurse brought me in to get me ready for an injection. I told her I'm not there for an injection, and she said they don't give pills. I was just there for an evualation that Comp insisted I get, and this Dr was doing a favor for my Family Dr. by seeing me, so I know, the clinics are injection happy! I did try them yrs ago at a pain clinic in NY, didn't do a thing. I'm in so much pain and have no life anymore, but they still will keep trying to take the pills away.
It may be time for a trial of methadone, it carries none of the side effects or feeling of a high but covers the opioid receptors in the brain. This is 15 years of Deteriorating joint disease from long term chemical exposure, spinal discs 60+% gone mostly by desiccation but 6-8 bulged and protruding that are deflating as i type, joints in the hands, bilateral knee replacement, and some surgeries i don't wish to pull the trigger on until medication doesn't touch it anymore. After many years of searching with my pain specialist (and it sounds like you should try another pain M.D. there are some really good ones out there and some real bad ones...Smart.. don't get me wrong, but they've seen so many drug seekers they don't recognize real pain until they've seen your films or at least the MRI reports). They have heard it all but you can't dismiss the real deal when your films do the talking. I was on a trial of every one of the opioids, every damn one lasting close to 3 years before the trial of methadone (to my M.Ds relief), i'm out of the wheelchair from hell, using a cane and found some little things that also help, like some water therapy (more important is just float around just doing some light movement, float on my back, heck make some motor boat noises if it'll get you to enjoy it not look at it like the gym, and an occasional massage from a massage therapist who knows what a trigger point is and how to deal with it, you will be amazed what can be achieved in addition to the meds.
I won't be able to live without them (the meds), but have finally found ways to cope (most of the time), the pain will still wear you down, but you don't have to lean on the meds by themselves, even leaning against or sitting on a tennis ball at the point of the pain can release trigger points when you get the hang of it. Pardon my punctuation, the one thing they haven't found is a pill for my failing memory, thank you spell check or you couldn't even follow this message. I should add that early on in this ordeal, i returned to school and started a practice in pain control via specializing on referred pain phenomena (trigger point myotherapy) basically a massage therapist with further education that does not do anything resembling massage except the reduced level of pain and the next 4-5 days of allowing you to get out and remember there is a life outside our pain circle, i saw approx 4500 sessions per year until my own pain said enough. That was due to a smart rheumatologist buying out my practice and after 1 year had every pain specialist in town referring their toughest cases, i lasted a decade after being told by doctors that my working days in my prior career were over. Trigger points ended one career and launched a whole new world. Trust me, find some one who knows and pay attention to what they do while working on you, and you can learn how to do it at home using things like the tennis ball, even the corner of a wall. Help your meds help you, because more medications relief won't last , and your doctor will tend to help you and listen to you if your proactive, asking for a raise in your meds will only raise your doctor's suspicions, they are people too, and like i said ...they have heard it all so be prepared to prove it and the help will be there.
I haven't had surgery, had family that has and in worst condiction, ended up with more surgery due to Dr scew ups. I had a injection, which lasted over a yr, second one didn't last more then 2 weeks, then I got Medicare at 65, and I can't afford even going to my own Dr, even with my retirement insurance with it. So all I can do is pain meds, I do not take what Dr gives due to fear of addiction. So that's ok only used full amount when I broke my ankle for few days then went back to just one. The thing is we have addictives to them that miss uses them, and all drugs. So us that really need them to live a part of a normal life, are having to be scared we won't be able to get the meds we really need. I've done everything except surgery, which I can't afford or want.
There are so many ways a person can help themselves with simple modalities like 20 minutes of very light activity in a pool, or find an educated massage therapist with trigger point knowledge, it can make your meds work so much better than doing nothing and allowing the pain to control you, as i once did until necessity made me search for other ways to help the meds help me
Amen! The same thing us happening in Canada too. I can't get any Dr to provide adequate pain relief.
In the state of nj, even if you break your back u can't get more than 5 days worth of pain medication. I have patients who need their medication and can't get on it. I want to know what they are doing about the illicit drug epidemic and focus on that and not people who are taking their medication to live a normal life!!!
They don't make a Percocet 30mg IR, although they do make a Roxicet 30 mg IR. It has the same 30 mg of oxycodone without the acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is used as a anti-inflammatory and also a booster for the oxycodone. Buy a bottle of acetaminophen OTC and take 500 mg with each roxicet for better results!
If your in that much pain you should have surgery, and if you have had surgery already I would recommend asking the pain doctor to put you on the pain patch at 50mcg every 2days,it will last to three day's but in your case two would be best for your pain level, and get off the oxycontin, but you can take 10-325mg for breakthrough pain
When I moved to Missouri from California I was taking 40 mg of oxycodone every 4 hours. It gave me enough relief that I could function and have a semi normal life. The Drs here told me the same thing, that my dr was over medicating me and I’ve been through hell since. After 3 years they are finally letting me take 15mg oxycodone 5 Times day. It’s so sad that those of us who have serious pain are being punished because people that dont need pain meds have abused them so our quality of life diminishes.
You'd be very lucky if you get your doses upped. Legitimate pain patients are being weeded out, under-treated for pain because of all the opiate hysteria. If you are on a 15mg plan, most likely you should stay there. Your body will adjust. I would look into kratom or medical Marijuana to ease the pain, and definitely withdrawals as they lower your meds. It's happening to everybody. Sorry sweetie. Good luck.
They make Roxicodone 30 milligram, which I'm almost positive is what you're taking when you say Percocet 15mg..so to answer your question.. Yes they do have them.
Percocet only makes 2.5mg 5mg and 10mg strengths its a combos drug with acetaminophen now once you get to 15mg 20mg and 30mg the drug name is oxy ir and or endocet the difference between them is that oxy ir only has oxycodone in it there is no acetaminophen its just oxycodone its meant to be taking more of without the worrying of tylenol damage to the liver it is alway fadt acting the 15mg oxycodone chancees are you have the ir immediate release for if they are not qorking ask your doctor to either up the strength to 20mg or 30mg or to up the dosage instead of taking 1 maybe take 2 or 3 but ask.your dr before you do anything
Man you should just go buy Tylenol, because you like Acetaminophen so much! lol
What did you say about the guy that said don't get Rhodes Oxycodone ? I'm the guy and everyone knows that Rhodes Sucks !
The MS Contin 60 are supposed to be taken every 12 hours as they're time releases. The Percocet or oxy whatever he prescribes is for breakthrough pain, not the other way around. I've also been on MS Contin for 12 years and have been able to wean my dose down depending on my activity and rarely do I need anything for breakthrough if I make sure I don't go over the 12 hours on the morphine.
