Percocet 30mg Immediate Release? (Top voted first)

Updated

I've been taking 240 Percocet 10/325 for over 10 yrs with 60 mg MS Contin twice a day for breakthrough pain. When I'm out of the blue my doctor sends me to a pain management specialist because he says he can't write for any narcotic over 120 tabs a month. I go to this new doc who wants to inj. something in my spine in an area he calls the sweet spot, and that I have been over medicated by my other doctor but only after a MRI which I had and I went back after my scan and it turns out I don't have a sweet spot. My thecal sac is 5.4 and gets worse the lower it goes. So he sends me to a surgeon with a script for Percocet 15 mg and it's not touching my pain. I was wondering if I should request something stronger? I was at least able to function with my old med plan but I'm not certain if I should ask to have my current management plan increased since he thought I was over medicated before, I wasn't sure if they made a Percocet 30mg rapid release?

Our lives get worse because of the people not in pain that are addicted! I have always been good, never taken more than prescribed, but have not had an increase in 13 yrs! I was lucky back then to have a Dr. who listened, and I was put on the Fentanyl patches which is great to have a small amount in me constantly. I'm on Percocet as well, but I comply with my Doctor, which now includes a contract and drug panels. My issue is Workmans Comp! They are using the system to try to get me off. They claim the dangers, but we all know it's because they don't want to pay for the name brand for me. I'm told the Judge and insurance Co. want everyone off of opioids. Do they sound like Doctors? My Doc says it's ok for me to be on them, I finally found a Pain DR to see and write a report, (workmans comp insisted) and he recommended to try alternative treatments, but if they don't help he doesn't recommend cutting the meds. So far acupuncture helps my neck, but not my lower back. Now, because of walking with the cane for all these yrs and being in pain everyday, I'm shorter (53 yrs old), have both shoulders needing surgery, carpal tunnel in my right hand, and the worst is my hips that need replacements. My life is hell in pain, and anxiety when I have to deal with Comp, and that includes sometimes monthly when they play with me and don't approve my meds at the pharmacy. I worked hard all my life, stopped working way past the time I should have, led a good life helping people, never doing wrong, so it hurts being treated this way. Why do we have to live in pain? No one who doesn't live in pain understands.

There is an instant release yes. But it's oxycodone (they are without the Tylenol or other additives ) they do help but for only a short time. I'd ask for something that is extended release along with the instant release. I take 60 MG a day of oxycodone and 90 MG a day of extended release morphine. Before adding the extended releases was added my pain only went away for a short period. The thing about pain management is that they kinda have to start out slow they are being watched like hawks by the DEA at the moment. But most definitely keep a pain diary and complain complain complain about the pain. If you tell them everything is okay then they will just leave things the same. The point of pm is getting that pain under control and they know this so don't be afraid to let them know how you are feeling!

so damned true it makes me sick to think they abandon their oath, to avoid the paperwork the feds have forced upon them, and the huge numbers of drug seekers have made our lives just worse in every conceivable way .

You are so right, those that have never experienced the pain use their extremely limited knowledge to cast aspersions because they recognize the name of a drug from any number of areas, be it from a local police report, to a movie, making them experts and giving them what they believe is the right to believe all pain sufferers are drug addicts looking to scam the system. The meds i am stuck with carry a stigma because of all things it is used for is to get people off opiates, when in fact it was designed during WWII to allow injured soldiers to continue fighting without any of the side effects of traditional opioids, while covering the opioid receptors in the brain. Tell someone you are on Methadone for pain, and they run from you thinking you are an addict coming to rob them or worse, and yes there are some real winners in the pain management field, but if you have your MRIs in hand you will be treated more seriously than if you just simply try explaining your pain. These doctors have heard it all, so they first go to epidurals to see if your pain is real. I just had epidural number 14 over the 16 years the poison that caused the deterioration of bone/joints throughout my body, due to an auto accident that finished off the last healthy discs in my spine, as opposed to adding more pain pills, that will only give you temporary relief until you need more and so on, and so on and nausea; and pain specialists know this. My ADVICE IS IF YOU WANT YOUR PAIN SPECIALIST TO TAKE YOU SERIOUS, GET THOSE FILMS. THEY DON'T LIE, AND AND IF YOUR M.D. IS ANY GOOD HE/SHE WILL FOREGO THE STANDARD RESPONSE OF EPIDURALS TO THE ASKING FOR MORE MEDS (and there are some really bad p.m M.D's out there who just go through the motions). Unfortunately the war on opioids has made seeking a better pain MD put a label on us called doctor shopping. Thanks to the DEA overstepping it's knowledge we have so little recourse for the supposed 21st century knowledge base open to them, they would rather arrest and confiscate, because that is the sorry state of our government.

I can't address your particular problem but my own experience is this...ALL PHYSICIANS ARE WUSSES. Not very professional, I know. The FDA has them scared to death and getting ANY pain script is worse than pulling teeth. Even ER docs are running scared.

It's getting so bad now in new jersey that now the cops want access to the PMP pharmacy database to check on what all Drs are prescribing!!! Enough is enough!!! Cops are going to scare the Drs. And there is no privacy patient Dr confidentiality!!! Go after the cartels!!! Why aren't they doing that?!

It is not all on the cops, if you google dea busts south florida walgreens drug dispensary you'll see that big pharma distributors are selling drugs to dr. feelgoods and not keeping those in the books, it has caused wide spread shortages for real chronic pain people like myself, after you google the story of the bust, google walgreens program that they put in place to satisfy dea, it basically turns pharmacists into liars for corporate, they will tell you the delivery has not arrived, or other bullcrap along these lines in order to thin walgreens many chronic pain patients.I have been on the same med for 14 years now due to commercial farmers disposing of their hazardous waste illegally by hiring truckers to haul last growing seasons chemical covered plastic sheeting, at least in my case and 3 other drivers who were like me saturated in 2,4d aka agent orange which is legal in florida for farms that grow vegetables. We lost 1 driver at age 40. Myself ? I've lost the cartilage in every joint, all the discs in my spine, both knees finger joints and at year 10 walgreens pulled this on me, but after all those years I'd made friends throughout the pharmacy, in the case of walgreens their program is called of all the sneaky crap "The walgreens good faith policy", my pharmacist refused to use this on me only because they knew my history and that they bucked the system so they could sleep at night knowing they didn't hurt or worse kill someone who would rather take their life than try to live thru pain that a lay person can't know unless they felt it. I for one am one of those people. There is no way I could tolerate the pain for longer than a week before I would put myself out of misery, but to get around the pharmacist who refused to cooperate in the good faith crap walgreens contracted with an unknown lab in philly and replaced the prime makers of my pain medication with this watered down version that was as effective as an m & m candy piece. I was in hell, until I got a meeting with the walmart pharmacy regional supervisor.

I brought all my mri's, all 13 years of printouts showing that in those 13 years, not 1 single early refill attempt, nor any of the peripheral meds needed to sleep, help with the depression, but to this day at every months refills, I am told I'm a day early (which is bull, since I can count to 30 just as early as they can) but for the most part they have kept me able to live with the breakthrough pain by honoring the prescription, and my pain spec. Is a hard ass about helping with breakthrough, so in addition to my pain meds I have to take up to 9 advilat hour 6 of every dose, which I'm sure is not healthy for liver or kidney function, but it's that or...., so arm yourself with as much proof of your health issue, because we are not in control, the pharmacies are. When the walgreens bust went down, florida pharmacies all went into cya mode and refused to take new pain patients on, because their distribution centers were doing the same as walgreens (so I am told) and our states ag a young 30 year old women with aspirations of making a name for herself, thru out the baby with the bathwater, meaning we pain patients were on our own, and that put extreme pressure on our doctors when we had legal scripts but no one would honor them with out doctors intervening on the patients part, and even that was a case by case version as some of the pharmacists think they know more than the doctors and would not honor any scripts due to pharmacists taking it upon themselves to take peoples lives in their hands. Thankfully my paperwork is way above what most people keep, only due to my knowing my outcome if denied. So if all the sudden your pharmacy starts with the no delivery stories, start preparing yourselves for their next move... That one is to tell you to go somewhere else. Get your paperwork in order and if they pull this, get them to an attorney, because we do not have rights in the eye's of big pharmacies

Hi - Don't let anyone inj. anything. I had that done for pain MANY times and it was USELESS - Plus the risks outweigh any possible benefit. Not to mention the deterioration if they use steroid inj's. too.

Just stick to your pain meds. Find another doctor, and try to only use the dose that alleviates your pain. I ran into the mistake of constantly UPing my dose of Oxys and before I knew it they were no longer working. I was only taking them to not be sick, like a junkie! I was upped to 16 80mg oxycontin with breakthrough 20mg OXY IR / per day... Not joking! THEN - when I told the doc that was even failing - They threw me on high dose methadone!!!!!

So just be careful. YOU WILL get to this point if you are not cautious!!!! Never in 100 TRILLION years did I EVER think I would be where I am at - and it happened.

My extended release is every 8 hours. I think maybe that's just how it's set up for you. Not everyone's is 12 hours apart.

I'm glad u replied to this post, I have been in P.M. for several years now and the first clinic was a joke just jumped into burning nerves (57 total) telling me it would re leave my pain issues anywhere from 2 to 6 years all it did was make the pain worse and cause a rare side effect of killing the muscles around said nerve, when 2 months after all these nerves have been burnt go by there is no relief this Dr wants to start over telling me the dead muscles are just a side effect I have to deal with, thru all this all I had for pain was hydro 5/325 3X a day(every 8hrs) and no matter how much I begged I was to the point of using a cane and in tears pain but he wouldn't for the 2 yrs I was there even up it. I ask for second opinion where I am now is better except they dont seem to understand the intense pain they started me on hydro 10/325 I was only on them for the first month I said it wasn't doin anything for my pain she said "I didn't think they would so here you go maybe this will help we will change you to oxy 10/325 if these don't help in a couple months we will work on something else" that was almost 3 yrs ago the last 2 visits was with a different Dr in the clinic and I didn't have to mention it I have been reduced to a walker and feel like a the lil tomatoes in a sewing kit he actually had the nerve to ask if we should just take the pain meds away completely instead of change them or up them or something like that...but reading ur comment gives me hope that maybe I can go to my Dr with names and it mite help...so thank you so much!!!

I'm very angry and disappointed. Since January of this year my pm specialist (what a joke that word is used) has so screwed with me in regards to changing my meds for my pain. Just saw her last week, took my wife along with me for for her input & to try & keep me from breaking down crying, weeping like little baby!! How demeaning does that feel? Now she is passing the buck to my primary care Dr. Pretty sure she's washing her hands of me. Now I've got a month of more anxiety to look forward to until my yearly physical. Not worried about the actual physical though. Worried about him dropping me as well, even though I've been with him for many years. I'm overwhelmed, as is my wife of 20 plus years. If not for her support through all this, who knows... I can't hit these keys fast enough to get out all the anger and frustration that people in our position share with me. Oxycontin, the non addictive miracle narcotic of the 90's isn't modern medicine... Just wonderful... Know who it's wonderful for? We all know - The drug companies. Had I known way back then I would have invested, they came out of the recession pretty well. We could all go on longer rants about this situation we're forced to live with, I'm fairly certain. It is kind of cathartic to share this. Like I said before, I could rant for hours. Uhh Ohh, time to take my meds!!! My regards to all of you other patients.

To all you people with back pain, I had surgery on my lower spine (L3-L4) three years ago... I'm in about as much pain as before the surgery... And if any 'pain doctor' wants to give you injections, laugh at him and leave the room...Crooks! Injections are useless, the lessening of the pain lasts for up to 3 weeks and then nothing, and afterwards the pain you have in your back will be twice as bad as before! The insurance companies pay these pricks thousands of dollars to make us feel worse. Amazing. And yet the government wants to go after those of us who can barely stand up from the pain we experience on a daily basis by not allowing us to figure out with our doctors what meds might help us lesson the agony. Shameful.

That really sucks to be so young and be in this awful state of agony. I get lame pain killers from my GP bless her. The so called 'Pain Doctors' only want to give you injections in your spine that are useless and mostly cause deeper pain after a couple of weeks. They'll give you at the most 2 months of pain pills here in NYC. It's surprising to me that people here are able to get stuff like morphine? Jeez.. They'd laugh at you if you asked for something that strong. The whole situation is insane and I hope you feel better my Dear. I found that doing physical therapy helped to some extent. Meds are better of course to knock out the pain. I'm concerned to keep the amount I take to a minimum in order to maintain some sort of efficacy.
Good luck to you.

You're welcome for the advice. Just don't ever let them try and give you Rhodes Oxycodone ! And you'll be a lot better off.
