My child is 12 and 100lbs. Should I give her 500 mg or 250 mg of penicillan vk. It is for an oral infection. ## Hello, Lulu! How is your daughter? This should not be given, unless her doctor has confirmed the presence of an infection and prescribed it. If she doesn't have an infection, then giving her an antibiotic creates the risk of her developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. If she does have one, it may not be the right antibiotic. Is this a dental issue, or something else?

Want to have my penicillin script filled with the pentek-20 brand ## Hello, Blaster! How are you? Unfortunately, there is no database of which pharmacy carries a medication from any given manufacturer that I can refer to for you. What is wrong with just taking the one your pharmacy has in stock? All are just as effective. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

I am taking penicillin for strep throat, but i find it very difficult to take one pill 4x a day considering all the time I must wait before and after I eat to take them (It just doesn't quite match up with my schedule and I do not want to mess it up). Can I take 2 pills 2x a day? ## Hello, Streppy! How are you? No, you need to take them as instructed by your doctor. The reason they are spaced out that way is to keep the medication in your body at a constant level to prevent the bacteria from being able to start to grow and proliferate, again. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

can you take penicillian vk 500grm with a lactose solution for constipation ## Hello, Billie! How are you? You should double check with your doctor or chemist, but most likely no. Taking it at the same time you take the lactose solution could result in your not actually absorbing the antibiotic, it may move through your GI tract too fast. Is there anything else I can help with?

i have been prescrbed calvepen for tonsilitus can i drink alcohol whilst taking them? ## Calvepen contains the active ingredient Penicillin; which does have an interaction with food/drink, but not anything specifically related to alcohol consumption. Information I've gathered states the following: "Adjust dosing interval: Certain penicillins may exhibit reduced gastrointestinal absorption in the presence of food. The therapeutic effect of the antimicrobial may be reduced. The interacting penicillin should be administered one hour before or two hours after meals. Penicillin V and amoxicillin are not affected by food and may be given without regard to meals." Regarding the above statement, I would suggest drinking one hour before or waiting two hours after taking Calvepen to i...

Appears as though it may have come from a veteranarian perscribed to dogs. The bottle says Cefla 100 on the side written in pen. ## Hi Kevin, I haven't been able to locate a pill that matches the description you've provided. However, based on my research Cefla may be a brand name for the medication Cefalexin. Since the bottle says Cefla 100, you may have Cefalexin (100 mg). Cefalexin is used to treat a number of infections including: otitis media, streptococcal pharyngitis, bone and joint infections, pneumonia, cellulitis, and urinary tract infections. It may be used to prevent bacterial endocarditis. Common adverse effects include: Gastrointestinal upset such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and abdominal pain. Others may include dizziness, agitation, headache, joint...

Im allergic to penicillen and was given cephalexin, can I take them or will it kill me like penicillin will?? ## Hi Franny, Based on my research, Penicillin and Cephalexin are classified as two different types of antibiotics (cephalosporin antibiotics and penicillin antibiotics). However, more information I'm finding states that there is some clinical and laboratory evidence of partial cross-allergenicity of the penicillins and the cephalosporins. Apparently there have been patients who reported severe reactions to both medications. So I don't think any exceptions should be made for Cephalexin in this regard either (at least to play it safe). You can learn more about this drug on the page for Cephalexin Details Was your doctor aware of this before prescribing you the medication?...

I was wondering if Pota-vi-kin Penicilina v 800000 u is a good supplement to take instead of the regular 500000 u for a skin abscess bacterial infection ? ## Hi, Pete! How are you? That's not a supplement! That's just another form of Penicillin that's derived from a potassium salt, but it is just another antibiotic. It helps treat or prevent bacterial infections and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Penicillin details here. And which has your doctor prescribed for you to take?

If you haven't seen any change yet, then you should contact your doctor as this antibiotic may not be doing its job. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I am searching for a dentist, however in the meantime I addled my doctor to prescribe penicillin for a very painful broken tooth. The dentist had previously prescribed me 500mg worth 1000 as the initial dose. My doctor prescribed 250mg and after 3 days it is not working. My question is, can I double up the 250mg to make 500mg? working. My quotation is can I double up the 250mg to make a 500mg? My doctor doesn't usually prescribe penicillin therefore ## An antibiotic will only help if the pain is due to an infection and, in this case, that may not be what's causing it. It could just be due to the broken tooth being sensitive and that isn't going to resolve, regardless of how much antibiotic you take, until you see a dentist to have the tooth fixed. Is it aching constantly, or ...

Can i use Flupen 250 for flu symptoms? ## Flupen contains the active ingredient Flucloxacillin. This medication is a narrow-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic of the penicillin class, which works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria. Unfortunately when it comes to antibiotics, they are not indicated for the treatment of cold or flu symptoms, unless that flu happened to have originated from a bacterial infection. If you have a way of confirming this with your doctor, that would probably be the next step I would take before deciding on an appropriate treatment option. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Flucloxacillin Details I hope this advice helps!

I've been taking ic penicillian as perscribed for about a week now. And I've started getting a rash on the palms of my hands and legs. should i stop taking the penicillian immediately or finish the course. ## HI, Brit! Sorry about the rash. From your description, it's difficult to know what type of rash it is and why it has happened. There are two different types that you can experience from antibiotics. The first would be a non-allergic skin rash, this one usually just looks like small speckled spots similar to measles and it doesn't itch or swell. It's just kind of there, almost like you got a new set of freckles. The second is an allergic rash, which would include hives, they are raised, swollen bumps that itch and seem to spread. They may cycle and itch at differ...

Hello I have a bottle of penicillin vk 500mg filled 9.29.10. prescribed by my dentist. Are they to old to use, I have a nasty cold. Thank you ## Hi Denise, sorry you aren't feeling well! But no, old or new, Penicillin isn't effective at treating the virus that causes a cold. It is only effective against bacterial infections. Additionally, improper use, such as taking it for a cold could lead to your developing antibiotic resistance, which could be very dangerous if you do get an actual infection that requires an antibiotic. It doesn't get dangerous once it's expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so it should just be disposed of properly. Taking it would further potentiate the risk of developing antibiotic resistance. Is there anything else I can help with? Le...

500 MG tablets. What is the dosage and how often? ## I have a head cold. My sinuses are congested and my head feels heavy. I have some penicilina-v. In this case, the relevant fact is that antibiotics are not effective at treating colds! Colds are caused by viruses and antibiotics are only effective at treating bacteria. You can learn more Penicillin details here. That link will give more details about Penicillin and what it can treat. And there are risks associated with trying to self-diagnose and self-treat, since you create the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, if these medications a...
