Paxil Vs Tramadol
UpdatedI have been taking tramadol for about 8 years now. About 5 a day (50) mgs. Does anyone know if the withdrawals from tramadol would be better if I started taking paxil instead. I have never had a problem ordering tramadol online until now but I do have a Rx of paxil. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since you've been taking Tramadol for 8 years, your body has probably become largely dependent on it; so unless you've tapered off to some degree, it's very "likely" that physical withdrawal symptoms will occur. Protecting your emotions, feelings, & mental fortitude with antidepressants sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure if it will prevent certain physical symptoms (including pain) or any other reactions from occurring unless they are related to emotions or mood.
That is just my theory, but if anyone else has more information to share, that would be great!
Thank you very much for your reply. I only have 10 left so I can't do much of a taper for long. I have wanted to quit for so long now. it doesn't really do anything for me except make me feel normal anymore. I'm going to start taking 10mg of Paxil today. Thanks!!!
I am not really sure about paxil and how it help ease Tramadol withdrawal. But I suggest you contact first your doctor.
I have been taking Tramadol 100mgs three times and Paxil 20mgs on a daily basis... My doctor told me there shouldnt be a problem... I agree that the side effects from not taking Tramadol is severe. I had stop taking my Paxil since I was on Tramadol and when i stopped taking the Tramadol I was soo depressed, my mind was ongoing, my body was just feeling soo wierd... I doubled my Paxil and the following day I felt much better... Unfortunately I was instructed to take my Tramadol due to my SI Joint problems... I questioned if it was ok to take it with Paxil... I was told since I was on such a low dose he wasnt concern abt it... I hope this helps...
I was on tramadol for lower back disc pain in the late nineties for about 2 years. When I stopped I had uncontrollable Parkinson's like tremors that lasted for about 4 days.. It was awful. Also I realized that the tramadol had not really relieved my pain all that much. Since then my pain has increased almost exponentially, and I'm on the fentanyl patch and oxycodone for breakthrough. This combination seems to be working fairly well, except the relief from the fentanyl patch only lasts for about 48 hours and I am instructed to leave it on for 72. It also happens that I live in a state with draconian prescription drug laws, and sometimes it is very tough to get my refills on time. Those of us with chronic pain are just so much collateral damage in the so-called war on drugs.
I was on tramadol for 2 yrs. Not prescribed by the doc. I was getting them of a friend just because I enjoyed the high. Big mistake because when I stopped them I had awful withdrawls.... at the time I started taking them I was on paxil for depression but stopped taking them because tramadol cured the depression anyways... so when I stopped the tramadol I started takin the paxil again and it stopped the majority of the withdrawls.. did the paxil bypass the withdrawals????
If paxil works for you great? I could not take it and I found paxil withdrawals to be awful. Worst ever. I don't know of tramacet having withdrawals. And don't see it assisting with what u referring to. It's a totally different drug.
Paxil is a horrific drug with the most severe side affects and severe withdrawals Eva. I would not touch that drug it's too awful. Cannot c u having hectic withdrawals from tramacet tramadol if taken for pain.
I would taper yourself down before u replace it for another drug that really doesn't have anything to do with tramadol. Paxil is an anti depressant that takes atleast a couple weeks to build up n start working in your system but from my experience probably one of the worst when it comes to side effects n all in all is just bad for your body n not good for your brain... If you really wanna come off the tramadol I would taper down to 1 a day then maybe get some benzos to take the edge off- (Xanax, valume, clonopin or Ativan.) N thenI would eventually cut yourself off completely and the benzos will help with some of the symptoms pretty good.
JamONE,
Not to dispute anything you suggested in your post however most people do not understand that every drug taken orally poses a risk of side effects WITHOUT EXCEPTION. To begin mixing, Matching substituting one for another ( especially those classified controlled dangerous substances) Only MAGNIFYS the risk of adverse effects. Withdrawal is a multi phased bio chemical reaction to a series of factors far to complicated to define at this time and in the space Suffice it to say BENZODIAZEPINE OPIATE OR OPIATE LIKE DRUGS can potenate the effects while others conversely deplete or minimize the effects of others.WHEN UNDERTAKING ANY DECISION PLEASE CONSULT WITH A PROFESSIONAL THAT CAN ASSIST YOU IN THIS PROCESS.Your health and medication intake demands vigilance and every person deserves the benefit of professional advice and counsel. God bless you all!!!!
I'm in tramacet it does not put me on any high at all not even the slightest. So there should be no withdrawals
I dnt think paxil will help. The only i know of is saboxin. And you should have o prob. Getting it frpm a dr who treats opiate prob. I know cuz that is how i did it. Ive been taking all kinds of opiates for 25 yrs ive takin all kinds of opiates from tynol 3 to dope itself. And yes ive had issues everytime when you run out plus ive kept things in moderation. I tell you this to show you i kinda know wat im talking bout. So the best way is tapper dn the tramodol and get off all things with saboxin but even sab. Will give some withdrawls if u tapper dn with that to the withdrawls will be very easy and short.
Sherry, where were you ordering tramadol online. Looking for a reputible source since my RX is running out and no insurance.
Re: Jane (# 8)
No it's actually not a different drug. It is a weak opiate, so yes that part of the Tramadol is different. However, both Tramadol and Paxil are SSRIs. Hence why tramadol helps depression and anxiety. Withdrawal effects from Tramadol can be severe. Paxil will help the SSRI part of Tramadol withdrawal, you will still be left with the physical opiate part of the tramadol withdrawal, which, in my opinion is nothing compared to the mental part.
Re: tom (# 13)
It is absolutely amazing how most people don't know anything about Tramadol. I've been on it for 10 years, here are some facts. It IS a synthetic narcotic. It CAN cause severe withdrawals if stopped abruptly. It is part opiate, part SSRI. Hence why taking it along with an anti depressent is not recommended, because of the risk of Seratonin Syndrome. It is also a controlled substance now, and has been for a while.
