Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that is used to help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach, to help prevent or treat conditions such as ulcers, heartburn, GERD or gastritis.
It can be taken with, or without food, but most people take it just before a meal, so that it has a chance to help when they eat, which is when their stomachs are going to be producing more acid.
However, if your doctor or pharmacist has provided you with specific instructions on when to take it, then you should follow their advice.
