Pantoprazole 40mg Dr And Ec (Top voted first)
UpdatedWe were receiving the Pantoprazole 40mg EC tablets, yellow~oval~w434. The last refill we received the Pantoprazole 40mg DR tablets, white~oval~KU181. These do not seem to be working as well as the original ones. We were trying to locate the differance between EC and DR. We did discover the DR means delayed release, but found no info on EC. Could you please help us figuring out what the difference is?? Thank You

Hello, Markayshai! How are you?
Both abbreviations really mean they same thing, they just designate it as being a time released formulation. The EC stands for enteric coated, there are many that the pharmaceutical industry uses for this.
Is there anything else I can help with?
I encountered the same results going from the generic "w434" to the "ku181". The ku181's just don't work at all. It's very frustrating to have all this acid back, its reeking havoc on my life. Have you had any luck with it yet?
Fantastic! I couldn't find anything anywhere what EC mean't!! Do you know if different manufacturers make the product a little different??? It is a different one and he said they don't seem to be working as well. Thank You
EC means enteric coated
Taking Pantoprazole. In the past all were marked EC (enteric coated). Last prescription does not have the EC in the name. Pharmacist told me that all Pantoprazole is enteric coated, but I am having breakthrough heartburn with this last refill.
It's possible that variations of this drug from different manufacturers could cause you to respond differently. EC (enteric coating) is a mechanism by which a DR (delayed release) medication works. So while in practice they should work the same, it is possible that the variance in inactive ingredients could explain what you are experiencing. Do you happen to have the NDC code for one or both prescriptions? If so, please post them here, as the site may be able to list inactive ingredients for each version.
