My sister-in-law is in a Skilled Nursing Center. She just started taking this pill and doesn't know why. I can't find the answer either. It just has a capital "M" and small letters "pg". What is the purpose of this pill, please?

I think the imprint on it might actually be M P9, it is manufactured by Matrix Laboratories and they list it as containing 40mgs of Pantoprazole in a time released formulation, it is used to help reduce the amount of stomach acid someone produces to treat, or prevent conditions such as heartburn, GERD, gastritis, and ulcers.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and flatulence.
