Pain Reliever For A Tooth Infection

To give you a bit of a background story: I went to this state dentist and she put something in my tooth to heal it's self I guess, and tooth broke and now I have only a crown just barely sticking out, and recently pain has been increasing and mostly in my upper jaw and me being a curious guy I went in touching trying to see what is causing an issue and I stumbled on this "vein" like thingy that went straight down to the tooth I'm missing and i could actually feel how stiff it was, now my old dentist came back from a vacation and I have to wait for the next 7 days to go to him because he is over booked and to be honest I have a fear from other dentists now after having my tooth break so I only decided to go him because when I was a kid he was fixing my teeth and none of them broke.

Now I have to sit idly for the next 7 days enduring this pain, what would be the best medication that I could use? I tried Ibuprofen 600mg it doesn't put a dent in the pain during the night and I still have to sleep.

So if there is any dentists or doctors reading this, could possibly tell me what is this is it an infection or something else and how could I dull the pain for the next 7 days.

It doesn't necessarily have to be an infection, it could be just an exposed nerve, that will also cause that type of pain. A crown is actually a cap over a bad tooth, which is done after a root canal has been done, if the tooth has broken off, that is not a crown, that is just a broken tooth, according to NIH reports.
