Pain Medication Cut Downs (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

Is it just me or is all the pain management docs trying to cut everyone down or back!!?? When I went to my last visit the doc had the nerve to ask me if I still needed my Oxymorphone 20mg ER (56). I was like YEAH, what do you think?! This is after they closed down for 3 months and I had to switch to Subutex to not get sick. And I got dropped from the 30mg oxymorphone. And by the way the 20'mgs are garbage. Then my doc asked me to get an MRI on my lower back, which I did the month prior. It just goes to show what a dumb ass he is and how they're so not in tune to what is going on! All they want to do is lower and lower your meds. Has anyone else had their doc try and taper them down or try and lower your stuff? By the way, I'm in south FL.

It's new government rules or laws and Drs and pharmacies don't want to be raided by the DEA or FBI because of the "Opioid Crisis". Drs and legitimate pain patients are going through hell because of the CDC. They think all heroin and Fentanyl overdoses start by just taking a few pain pills... They are blaming Drs and unfortunately people who don't ever abuse medications. I think it's backwards and they're not thinking about the harm chronic pain patients are experiencing. .What are you supposed to do when you can hardly move or just wish the pain would stop? I believe that's what pushes some good people to illegal activities that are dangerous. .For some the pain is too hard to bare and are thinking of or are ending their lives..I pray that they would stay out of our drs offices and think as adults we need the government to tell us what to do. I pray for everyone caught in the middle of this and I pray all the time that I can get through one more day because needing others to do everything for me when they don't have time is not living to me..God Bless everyone effected by the war on drugs and the families who have lost loved ones I'm so sorry for your suffering??

Tbones89 - well put. I agree with almost everything you said, except for a couple of things. First, the part about pot being a gateway drug. I think alcohol is more of a gateway drug, but they keep that around because it too is a huge money maker and ingrained into culture as a socially acceptable thing to do. In my opinion medical marijuana CAN offer therapeutic effects, but they should seriously dedicate proper resources to studying it. But I digress. And I don't know, is the head of the CDC really an ex nazi? That seems a bit far-fetched. Not that I outright refuse to believe you, but I'd appreciate some sort of citation or more information to prove that. Are you talking about either of the directors Robert Redfield or Anne Schuchat from the CDC leadership page? Neither of them were even born before WWII.

Anyways, thanks for sharing all that. It pains me to read about what you're dealing with.

The doctors r quacks these days, they don't know s*** about us and never will cause it's all about money. Think about it, a MRI costs more than the pain pills.

I'm in Australia. I think same is happening here. All it seems to take is some famous rock star to make a pig of themselves and have too much because they are so depressed with all the $$ they are making. Media gets hold of it and everybody in real pain pays the price and has to put up with pain. Either that or there's a lot of shares in Suboxone getting sold. I've actually heard of people going into precipitated withdrawals with it. Also heard it's no wonder drug, just about impossible to get off of, plus the mental side depression etc. My opinion on what i have seen. Thanks.

I was taking 10 mg Hydrocodone 3 times daily. 2 months ago, my NP switched me to 7.5 mg. I asked her why, and she said the Doctor did it. Got the 7.5 for 2 months, then last week it was back to 10 mg. I didn't say anything. But no clue what that was about. I get it that there's abuse in several ways. But they need to understand that many of us can't function in life without help from pain meds.

Due to our feckless POTUS who can't get it through his tiny brain that the so called opioid epidemic is from doctor feelgoods and theft of a pain patient's meds, and Pharmacy suppliers - (google walgreens DEA bust, then google Walgreens Good Faith policy) ... it will make you sick to see who is supplying this "EPIDEMIC". So now Sir Liealot is watching every doctor who prescribes pain meds, one screw up could ruin a legit Pain M.D., so if they can get you off the heavy stuff and find something in a different class all the better for all involved.

Re: Tbones89 (# 15) Expand Referenced Message

You are right on spot with your post. There's nothing else that could be said. I think about suicide every single f-ing day. As I have said before, there isn't a damn thing we can do. As a veteran, I thinks my country sucks to do this. I am all for the Mexican cartels bringing opioids into our country!! Been thinking about using heroin, even though that killed my brother. Then when all the pharmacy robberies start going up, THEY are going to blame gun violence. At night once I start thinking about how to pull one off & get away with it, I can't sleep!! So in the meantime I am trying to numb myself with alcohol & good old pot. Really wish all P. M. docs in U. S. would band together & end the madness. Even as a collective group of p. m. patients , there's nothing we can do. Doctors need to stick to their oath & speak up as a national coalition. Petitions, e-mail, letters & calls aren't gonna cut it. We should all know that by now!!

Kaiser HMO will not give out any pain meds or anxiety meds ! I also have a 17 year old dog has collapsing windpipe and joint pain but my vet
took him off pain meds and put him on crap .
The FDA/DEA is reviewing all doctors and veterinarians prescriptions and the doctors are afraid!

Hi Rawdog & Jack

I hope you're having a great day. Went to my new pain doctor yesterday. My hubby went back with me, after all his sister my sister-in-law, she was the one that lived with us and stole my pain medication. So I decided to tell the doctor the truth. The absolute truth. All I can say is it was a fantastic visit. This doctor is just one of a kind. He did prescribe my medication to me. Off the Subutex and I'm now back on my Percocet. He did say for just a little while I have to see him every 15 days. After that it will be 30 days. I'm glad I told the truth, it was a relief.
Not all people are dishonest. I couldn't make a police report on my sister-in-law. I just couldn't do it. I wanted to trust me. But I couldn't. If this would ever happen again, I don't care who it is, I will make a police report.
I'm sure we'll talk again.
Thank you both for all your help.

That's a heck of a story amigo. Sounds like you've been through a lot in your life. Thanks for sharing this, and I hope some folks will give your story a read. I've read little pieces, but I don't have a good attention span, so it's taken a bit to read your whole post (it is a mini novel). I'm glad to hear you've got that stigma off your record and can get the treatment that you need..

I know a woman (in her late 60s) with horrible bone cancer that has spread and she is essentially terminal. Every. Single. Appointment. They try to reduce or get her off pain meds!? To be fair, it is one oncologist that is the worst. I’m in Canada by the way. I get that there is immense pressure on physicians due to the opioid epidemic but it is simply unethical to take away meds from people who need them. There is a difference between dependance on a drug to increase quality of life and addiction. I hope this pressure s*** is over by the time I’m that age and need opioids for the inevitable.

I can relate to everything that has been written here! I have been trying to find a pain management doctor who will take me in my area that also takes medicaid. Have been looking for the past 3 years. I've had 7 orthopedic surgeries since 2013. I am constantly being told that I have to live with this pain! This has become very depressing!! I have a theory though that the government has finally got it through their head that they are & have missed out on tax Money they could have been making all this time on the sale of marijuana!! And I've taken plenty! I swore that I'd never quit, but I did!! And I was shocked at myself!! I loved it! But think about it, the Gov. is taking away legal pain medication and coming full circle with marijuana!! They can bring in lots of tax money that they can't with prescriptions!!! Many years ago when I was much younger I tried a lot of different drugs as many of you. And yes, even heroin for short time. It almost killed me! Went to rehab in the 80's & never done it since! But recently the thought of it and thinking I know what would help my pain, but Bless God I didn't dwell on it!! I'm just saying for many of us this in severe pain I don't know what's going to happen??? Or what the answer is??? But the Government needs to listen to us!!! We put most of them in office!!

I heard they quit making Opana amidst purported "opioid epidemic" . (Dopers will die one way or the other!) Drs./Pharms stigmatize suffering patients with verifiable conditions. I get oxycodone 30 mg. 5 day. Big problem is my 3 mg. day xanax! They say refill illegal (not on class 3), I nearly run out between scripts, when never fill early or do tricks "abusers" do! I request ER, denied when 3 x 1 mg IR don't last and split trying to. Have PTSD, no more! Severe panic attacks, anxiety disorder from chronic child/adult abuse, man made Cali DEW fires, etc. SITUATIONAL issues.

They push SSRI, SSNI dont work, make me very ill! They assert a chemical imbalance w/o test! More deadly, addictive; most all makers sued, (Lilly) yet still prescribed! Dr. Breggin, a shrink, says psych drugs are bad! High IQ, successful, perfect health. Stressed with life, incompetent liar Drs! Big pharma wants that $$$! Cant believe they don't want to sell meds. Plus, agenda 2030 depop perfect for BS 'epidemic'! They burn us alive now, so let dumb abusers die, less for them to kill. We disabled elders know how to take our meds and sick of lying Drs.!! Not much time left, so please let us die in semi comfort!

Re: Erin (# 37) Expand Referenced Message

Dear Erin, I understand your frustrations, but many people turn to street drugs after being cut off from doctors or have lost insurance, or even homeless people. Some of these are our returning vets that have horrible problems, PTSD, unable to integrate back into society, family problems from them not understanding that they just can't snap out of it, the list is endless. War is hell, and it doesn't just end when they get off the battlefield. Please have compassion, because we have not walked in their combat boots.

I understand your frustration though. I was married to a doctor who told me to shut up all the time, I had been bleeding for 4 years, extreme pain, nauseous all the time. He took me to the hospital to get an ultrasound. It showed a solid mass as big as a grapefruit. The surgeon was my family's neighbor, a great guy, he asked me if he could call my mama for me. I said "Yes doc, and call me a good divorce lawyer too." My husband stormed out of the hospital and left me there. There is a good joke I like to tell - What is the difference between God and a doctor? God knows he is not a doctor.

I wish you well, I really do.

Re: John (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

The only thing i can add to this is that i seem to notice that pain meds (opioids) from the manufacturer are weaker than they were a few years ago, and no this is not a case of getting resistants from long term use. I changed pharmacies and they had a different supplier/manufacturer that after 10 days i started withdrawals ( I am one of the unfortunate souls who is opioid resistant and after 2 years of trying to find some relief my pain specialist prescribed Methadone and VIOLA' it was if someone hit a switch though i did require large doses i was able to park that damn wheelchair and regain a semblance of a life it has been 11 years now and still working (taken as directed religiously) until the above mentioned brand change.I am retired Myotherapist (pain management through soft tissue manipulation)ironically retired due to my own pain brought on from AGENT ORANGE exposure, right here in Florida.(the governor in 1990 took the lobby cash and now AGENT ORANGE is used almost exclusively on all commercial vegetable farms in the state,"AND THE PUBLIC STILL HAS NO CLUE")

Re: Dying In Canada a true story (# 36) Expand Referenced Message

I really hope you you change your mind. I don't want to see no-one in pain but j definitely dont want to hear about you dieing. I thought Canada had the best health care system in the world!!!??? I know pain management is different than the regular health care but dam their doing you guys dirty like that too Huh. The only thing I can think of if they start really messing with my numbers and meds is to go to a methadone clinic. Someone else on here said it was the best decision of their life and I know of people who have said the same thing. Yeah it's a bitch to get up everyday early as hell to go does but after awhile you get take homes and in Fl I know some people who are up to 280mg a day so if you have severe pain this may be an option. I'll be damned if I get screwed over again having my doc shut down forcing me to get on subutex witch sucked to searching around with no avail for a new pain doc. Just got lucky that my old place opened back up with a new doc. But how long until that happens again ya know. I do love my oxymorphone 30's they were PERFECT in every way but for some reason these 20's suck it takes 3-4 of these 20's to feel the same off one 30. After reading all your responses I guess I shouldn't be bitching.

Trump did not do this ..... This started under osamabama when the troops got control of heroin poppy fields. Do your research ...... there were documentaries on air before trump was in office discussing mandatory pain med cuts this began before 2016 ....

Re: Beth (# 56) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Beth, it's horrible what they're doing to our Vets they were good enough to fight for our country but they're not good enough to get what they need that makes no sense. We are all having a hard time getting what we need. And I think this is T totally ridiculous. I don't even know where to start or who to call or what to do. I'm sick of tired of being looked at as a drug addict. This must stop. Where do we start where do we go what do we do? We need answers all of us.
