Pain Clinic Tn That Needs No Referral
UpdatedChronic pain in knees, elbows, neck (also degeneration). Holding down a job with this pain is impossible. Interfers with sleep, walking, standing, just plain daily living. I have a disabled child (5 yrs. & 70 lbs.) and has to be lifted. Pain from doing this is unbearable. Depression is a real problem. No doctor will treat me, have no insurance or money. Right at this time, I can't afford the meds or the doctor, but I need the help desperately.
@horsefly,
Sorry to hear about this intense pain you've been dealing with. Have you considered looking into any types of patient assistance programs or things of that nature? From what I understand, there are some drug manufacturers who offers these programs for patients who can't afford the full cost of their medication(s). It's really something to ask your pharmacy about if you don't currently have a doctor to refer back to.
Another suggestion I would look into, based on your description of not having much money, is to research natural alternatives that may be cheaper than prescription drugs. One example would be to grow your own medical cannabis, as it may be helpful for depression and taking your mind off of the pain. Essential oils or other topical pain creams may also provide some additional relief. These can be found at various health food stores or online at reasonable prices (in my opinion).
I hope this helps! Does anyone else have some suggestions?

Re: James Riley (# 14)
I need help I'm in a lot of pain and I need help
Re: Lora burchfield (# 15)
Yes James had two broken bones in his back and was in a lot of pain too. I would see a specialist who could refer you to a pain clinic. TN is a very hard State to get this type of medicine, most of the South is this way
Most pain management clinics want a referral because they’re not into starting from scratch and diagnosing and stuff. They want your PCP to do all that then send you to them.
Also MOST won’t give you meds if you admit to being depressed because Purdue claims that those are the type of patients that get addicted to opioids. So I wouldn’t share that with them at all.
Re: papaw (# 2)
Yep everyone wants to talk about how nobody should go to college, they should go to trade school. They don’t tell you that everyone in the trades ruin their bodies by 50 years old.
Re: Gail (# 12)
Nobody will give you opioids if you take benzos
Re: Optimistic (# 19)
It depends on the doctor. Some pain management doctors will give opioids if another doctor prescribes the benzodiazepam.

Pain Management Doctors require a diagnosis from a medical professional before they will treat you.

I need a doctor in knoxvlk7 t.n that do t need a referral
Re: Optimistic (# 22)
You do not need a referral to get a copy of your medical records. Federal Law states patients can get a copy of their medical records. Patients usually have to pay the cost of copying the medical records.
Re: Debbie (# 9)
I’m sorry, you are in a red state, you will probably not get help even if you had insurance. Can you get to Mexico? You can legally buy pain medication over-the-counter in Mexico.
Re: Louisville (# 7)
Why won’t the Doctor Who won’t give you medication anymore give you a referral? I don’t know of any specialist anywhere who will take a patient without medical records, some kind of x-rays or scans, or any history. They are not primary care physicians, they don’t want to start working on you from scratch, they don’t want to have to diagnose you and try PT for the first time, they want you to come with medical records.
Re: money (# 3)
They all require a referral because they don’t want to start at day one and try to diagnose your problem and trial other things and all that crap, they want someone who has already tried everything else, or who already has a diagnosis, or who has had x-rays or scans. Pain clinics are specialists, they don’t want everybody coming in off the street who haven’t even tried PT or something. That’s why they want a referral, they need you to turn up with medical records. They aren’t going to start from scratch to try to help you. They are a specialist, not a PCP.
You can’t tell them you are depressed, that is the problem. When Purdue was committing their OxyContin fraud the sales people were telling doctors that the only people who get addicted to the drug are patients with certain issues, depression being one of them. So for doctors who are still working off of that misinformation, once you mention you are depressed they will not give you pain medication.
