Has anybody else been prescribed this medication for hot flashes? I have fibromyglia, CFS, nerve damage in my legs, Osteoarthritis in both knees, herniated disks in my neck, and three bulging disks in my lower back. I also have terrible insomnia. After reading all of the side affects I am afraid to even try it. I am also taking 60mg er mscontin 3 times a day, Valium 10mg 3 times a day, and Xanax 1mg at bedtime for sleep. And D3 2000 iu once a day. Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to research terpenes. Many of the symptoms/problems you have, may be helped. An example of a terpene: Lavender has one which gives it that distinctive smell and is sedating.
Re: Bloren (# 3)
I agree, and SSRIs with opiates make a higher risk for serotonin syndrome. Excessive sweating and that anxiety that makes people physically agitated are symptoms of serotonin syndrome I think. And it can kill you. I really have a problem with doctors prescribing psych meds for everything. If someone isn’t deficient in serotonin processing all those SSRIs and SRNIs or whatever will screw them up worse. And even if they do help the patients aren’t usually warned that they’ll have withdrawals from them.
Effexor is a damn nasty drugs with serious side effects. My daughter was prescribed this med and suffered suicidal thoughts and serious aggressive episodes. She went off meds and felt much better; emotions returned to normal.
Thank you for answering my post, I just started taking it and I have had some dizziness from it, headache, and it says you can have night sweats from it, which I did have. I am worried about the insomnia, it says that is a possible side effect, I have terrible insomnia which I take Xanax for.. I will keep taking it and hopefully the side effects I am having will go away once my body gets use to it.. Once again thank you.
Hello, Bettyboob! How are you?
Yes, it's actually become very common to prescribe a medication like this for hot flashes and other female hormonal symptoms, since they are not as dangerous a hormonal replacement therapy and usually help with a broad range of symptoms.
What side effects have you concerned? Maybe those can be addressed to help you.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache and weight changes.
In your case, some of the hot flashes may actually be caused by the MS Contin and possibly the vitamin D.
