What are my options if Xanax doesn't seem to work for me?

Everyone's body is different. Everyone's body responds to meds different. I have a high tolerance for certain meds. It also depends on how long you have taken the medicine and if you have developed a tolerance. Another thing is if your a bigger person. I am 6' 250. I require more medicine than someone that is 5'3 and 125 pounds. Your doctor should know how much you need. Also if you just take it to get teeth abstracted. I have tourettes both vocal and body ticks. I require gas and xanax for any dental procedures. I am a nurse even though due to injury I no longer work bc I have CRPS. Please let me know if I can further help you? I do still occasionally work as a mortician and help at medical examiners office. Prayers your appointment went well. I have been trying to find a dentist(bc I am away from home that can follow or willing to learn to follow CRPS protocols for dental work).
Plz I need help - I cant even write what I need to cause my anxiety and Meniere's disease, vertigo, and tinnitus. That's where my anxiety and ptsd get the best of me. Non stop ringing noise in my right ear. I'm losing mind.
I am curious, have you tried EMDR? Many people with trauma history find that medications don't really help much, but end up leading productive, fulfilling lives after receiving treatment with an EMDR therapist.. something to consider. Peace
Did you find something to work? Please let me know
I agree with Eddy. Xanax is usually touted as one of the stronger benzodiazepine options on the market, so it's quite uncommon to hear from patient's who don't notice it's effects at all. A few other options that might be worth considering in the same drug class are:
Diazepam (Valium)
Clonazepam (Klonopin)
Lorazepam (Ativan)
Benzonatate (Tessalon)
You may also want to familiarize yourself with another manufacturer's version of Xanax or Alprazolam, since they can all effect each person differently, regardless of there being the same active ingredient. In my opinion, the things that make them most different are the binders and fillers (such as corn starch, gluten, dye, artificial sweeteners, etc...) that have an affect on each pill's absorption rate and overall bio-availabiltiy. Not only that, but generics may also contain up to 20% less of the actual active ingredients than that found in brand name medications. So it might even be that another brand of Alprazolam works completely different than the one you had originally tried.
I hope this helps!
Most people don't say that. There are some stronger Benzodiazepines but they work differently?
