Oxycontin Op And Oc What's The Difference (Top voted first)

I've been taking the oxycontin oc for years now. I want to know what exactly is in the new oxycontin op? PLEASE HELP

Well I've been on this medicine for over 5 years now, and YES it has changed. I don't know how they are getting away with calling it the same thing? They are absolutely not, all in active ingredients have changed. Headaches, Nausea, Stomach Pains, doesn't last as long, little gel like sputem in stomach coming up, They are going to have a problem with these. I take them as prescribed orally, I need them, but now I can't take them, so my Doctor has changed me to something else. My Doctor wasn't aware of the change in them? I think they really messed things up for those people who really needed them medicinely. I was also short of breath. LOTS OF SIDE EFFECTS. NOT A GOOD MOVE PURDUE. Buy stock of Purdue that they will go down, because they will. Great Idea for those who abuse them, but not so good for those who need them. I wasn't notified that they changed and I was really sick from them. waiting for a Class Action Suit, I'm sure its coming to a city near you. They also added some type of epoxy to the compound? Crazy..Crazy..Crazy..All done with them, Purdue you will loose a lot of patients that were on these for long time, you also made cancer patients more sick. If they aren't sick enough. I'm just starting to feel better since August 25th, 2010 from the OP's. A side note you can call Purdue and ask them what happen to your medication, because as you know, it isn't the same one you've been getting, the color changed, the markings have changed, so therefore they have changed. They are not the same medication as originally prescribed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I could go on and on, but what for. This is going to be a very large can of worms.

I also am very concerned over the new oxycontin. I have needed these for past 7 years. They are the only med;s that do not have bad side effect's. All my research on the new formula has been frightening and depressing. I was able to get the regular oxy's this month but i have called around to check for next month. No one will give me an answer. They are rude and cold. They tell me only those abusing these med's are complaining. I have had kidney cancer and have only one. Also i suffer from debiltating pain. It is the new formula that worries me..polymor and titanuim dioxide and several other epoxy . Why..these are carcengen's!! How did the F.D.A. approve of such a thing. They had to be paid off. They only did a 2 year study on side effects. This new formula was made for addicts not legal patients and we will be facing adverse health effects from this op. How could anyone accept this? Is there no one to protect us?/

I have remained on the same medication at the same dosage for the past 5-6 years. This medication allowed me not only to work full time pain free, but I was able to do things after work at home and with my family that are important too. I have been on the new formulation for almost a month now. In my experience it isn't nearly as effective as the original, maybe 1/2 as effective. Maybe they thought people that really needed them will buy twice as many now. Not to mention the constant headache and nausea, anlong with bloating & cramping. Anyway I have began limiting my self at work and home, something I have not had to do in so many years. In turn depression is beginning to creeping back into my life and my family pays the price. I have to tell my 9 year old that mom can't today....because I can't lift my right should or turn my neck. The pain from numerous operations I have had performed on my feet cause me to close my business early (2 or more hours) at least 3 time a week. I have no insurance and by the grace of God a local pharmacy on charges me a small amount over his cost, in return we provide our business services to him at cost. Even so I pay a fortune for the Oxycontin medication, if the generics had worked people would have taken them. I work hard to live a pain free and now I'm not sure what will happen. I can't pay this much money for somthing that doesn't work, I have tried other alternative medications with no luck.
People that abuse these medications will simply go one to another drug, like morphine or herion. It seems to me the only people to suffer will be legit chronic pain patients. Please, I welcome any advice or reccomendations. I've heard that Canada will contine to have the original formula but is that even possible with a perscription from the states?

this has me so upset.'vbeen taken oc80mgg, for 6 years now. I have one of the worse cases of scoloitis that the dr's at dartmouth hospital, in N.H., have ever seen..My spine has turned 83% more in 3 years, to the roght. I'm having surgery in oct. 2010,that could end my life, from my spine hitting against my lungs! i can barely walk, and in exscrucationing pain all day long, every day of the week! at least the reg. oc's helped take the edge off, these NEW things do nothing! and if they do, they take almost 2 1/2 hours to even kick in!!! what's all that expoxy doing to my insides, I wonder? Right now ny spine is resting on the rt. side of my body, and has fused to my rib-cage, which has caused my spine, and everything else to rest on my pelvic bone. They keep telling me DO NOT FALL, OR IT COULD KILL YOU! GREAT HUH???I'm so much more depressed now that i feel like just ending it myself, without the dr's. help!! It's the people that don't even haave these prescribed to them that has caused them to do this! It really pi--es me off! now i suffer more, with the headaches, stomach problems, neausa, etc.. It's bad enough that all my insides have all shifted to the right side , and everything is on top if each other causing severe problems with my stomach, spleen, liver gall bladder, intestines, lungs, ribs, etc!!!!!This is just SO WRONG TO DOTO THOSE OF US WHO RIGHTFULLY NEED, AND HAVE TO HAVE THEM!!! What can we do about it? NOTHING THAT I KNOW OF!!!! Oh Mimi and poon, a big but gentle hug to you both. I feel your pain.Right now..hundred's of cancer and cp patient's are in dismay and anxiety. We have found a painkiller that gave our lives back and the replacement is worthless as well as dangerous. What if we all get together..write,call purdue as well as start calling lawyers. Europe and Canada classify the epoxy in these new op as carcengenic. As well as toxic to liver,heart,kidney.There will be lawsuits down the road. How will our digestive system break these down? Will patients after a few month's suffer bowl puncture after they sit in the bowl for month's? These are plastic's. Where are the patient advocates? Who will protect us..the legal patients whose very lives depend on this medicine? It's obvious the FDA was paid off. A 2 year study on the effects is not enough to determine the side effects from these op's. Can we sue the FDA? Ok..now the good new's. My husband read information from purdue..that if a patient does not tolerate the new op's..they say to tell doc and ask him to write for brand name..old formula only. The pharmacy won't have on hand the oc , they will have to be ordered from purdue and yes purdue will still be making 10% of the old formula as they sell this to Canada and europe. Canada has refused the new formula due to the carcengen's in them. It is a class A carcengen. The trouble is pharmacies in my area are cold and ruthless. They are going to probably give me grief when i ask them to order the old formula. So i am expecting a long day finding a compassionate pharmacy that will order the oc.This is my hope. Will my doctor do this? I just don't know. Everyone is looking out for their own self interest and not that of the patient. But guy's i suspect due to adverse effects purdue will have to change this..ppl. will start legal action after they suffer side effects. I AM TIRED OF THE FDA CHANGING MY MEDS AROUND DUE TO A BUNCH OF DRUG ABUSERS,I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF THE PATIENTS ON OXCYCONTIN BUT I WENT THROUGH A BUNCH OF NONSENSE, SEEING A SHRINK,DRUG TEST, AND TOOK SOME VERY LONG TEST TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS NOT A RISK FOR ABUSING NARCOTICS,IT IS NOT MY PROBLEM THAT THEIR ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE SUCKING EVERY KIND OF MED THAT WILL GET THEM HIGH UP THERE NOSE, BELIEVE ME THE ABUSERS WILL JUST FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO ABUSE,WHILE THE PATIENTS THAT TRULY NEED THIS MEDICATION CANT GET THE MEDS THEY NEED JUST TO BE ABLE TO BARE THE PAIN THEY ARE GOING THROUGH,I HOPE PURDUE SEES NOTHING BUT ALOT OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS AND THEIR BUSSINESS GOES TUMBLING DOWN, THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO THROW A BUNCH OF UNKNOWN INGRIEDIENTS IN OUR MEDS AND WE ARE SUPPOSE TO JUST SIT BACK AND WATCH ALL OF THIS APOXY AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE IN OUR MEDS WITHOUT ANY CONSIDERATION FOR WHAT THE SIDE EFFECTS WILL DO TO US. OK, you have no clue what you are talking about. I am a chemist by trade and specialized in plastics adn polymers (no I don't expect you to understand what that means). Ethylene Glycol (antifreeze) and POLYethylene glycol are only similar in name. It is a type of wax that is also sometimes used in HIGH doses alone as a mild laxative and IS NOT A TOXIC SUBSTANCE. The hydrocodone is more toxic to your kidneys than anything else that you mentioned. Iron oxide is by nature red, it is the fancy name for rust-the kind you find on iron containing matierials like steel.Keep crying about it because you can't snort it. I haven't noticed ANY difference in its effectiveness at all and I've been taking it for 5 years at the same dosage. Before you start misinforming anyone about chemicals try googling MSDS followed by the name of the chemical name (material safety data sheets) and they will tell you any chemical reactivity or toxicity. By the way Sodium Chlide is in table salt but alone either sodium or chlorine can kill you if ingested but together they make our food taste better. Go cry to your doctor and MAYBE he won't dump you for the obvious complaint made by abusers. OH-and educate yourself about chemicals before you make claims about them.

I just wanted to let you and everyone else who has posted on this that I feel for you. I was just on here to see if anyone else has had this problem with the OP's not working like the OC's used to. I am completely frustrated as well. I have had denervations where they burn the nerves off of my spine so I won't feel any pain and that didn't work the last time. They tell me that if I want to work I will be able to for about 5 more years and then once I am fused in all the places that need to be fused I won't have any motion in my neck any more and will be too dangerous to work where I work (a paper mill). I am so tired of getting treated like a terrible person, much less always getting treated like I am drug seeking by different doctors. I am also tired of the doctors acting like I am made of money and them making me try different procedures over and over again just because they think they have to feel good about themselves by trying anything even if it never worked before. I am left with living like a poor person because of me being in pain and this should not be like this. There are even laws to prevent this from happening to us but look how it keeps happening. I have been always honest with my doctors and it makes them treat me even worse. I hate this so much. I am sorry for venting, but it is lonely out here. I feel very alone. The changing of the OC's is like the icing on the cake. I rarely have increased my milligrams and have even went down at times. Ever since they changed to OC's I have had a severe itching problem. I know that I usually have itching but not like this. So, anyway, my doctor had me on 2 1/2 pages of medicines and I started to itch. I complained but my doctor could have cared less. I ultimately ended up in the emergency room with welts and hives. Months later after trying a local Dermatologist and him prescribing even more toxic medications I ended up at the University Hospital Dermatology Department. They finally listened and said it was probably the 5 or 6 medications I was taking that had severe allergic reactions of itching and hives. I was really mad. I am only taking the Oxycontin and Oxycodones now. Does anyone else feel the OP's also make them itch worse than OC's? Sorry it took so long to ask such a simple question.

The new Oxycontin OP are replacing the original Oxycontin. They contain the same active ingredient Oxycodone, in a time released formulation. The only difference is that they have been specially formulated to help prevent abuse.

Even if someone tries to crush or chew them, they retain their time released properties.

Side effects are still the same: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

I wrote eariler about the NEW oxy's.. sorry about all the typing errors, i've had 26 surgery's at dartmouth,NH since 2005-2006, which has caused me to not use my right arm, hand, etc. so I have to type with lefti'm rt. handed, so that's another challange for me. this is why i was put on the oxy's 80 mg in the first place!! sorry if you all had a problem reading my story. Andm that's only a short part of it. My life is HELL NOW!!! i'M STUCK IN MY HOUSE ALL THE TIME1 i CAN'T DRIVE ANYMORE, dmv, AND DR.'S WON'T LET ME. NEVER HAVE ride anywhere. people say that they are mt GOOG friends, ha- ha- ha!!! lol I barely see anyone, because I have a problem getting in and out of car's, so, no one wants to deal with me... thanks for listening--------mimi3

i have just started taking oc40's last month as the loratab 10/500 have stopped working....i have not gotten this months script but don't like the sound of it all...wish you all the best!!! and i will be asking my Dr to --->write for brand name..old formula only<---if they don't help my pain ...herniated disk l5 S1 mine come straight from the company so i might not have as hard of time getting part of that 10%
i will post back next month if it works.....bad move on there part I Think

p.s. there are other typs of drugs like Opana that costs even More then oc's but work just as well just not over used by addict yet so they haven't had the publicity that oc's have gotten....maybe this could be used as a alternative till they fix the OC's i can't say that i feel your pain i know im better off then most i can walk still just hurts to do so....just trying to inform anyone that may benefit from these extended release type drugs...Good luck to all!!!!

God Bless all of you. I am in the same boat. I wasi in a car accident the day before my birthday in 2000. I was 38 and had just reached my first goal of becoming a VP in a very large company. My second, playing on the Sr. PGA Tour was finished that day. I had a failed two level fusion (that failed miserably), a damaged SI joint and developed 11 other diseases of the spine. I started on OC in 2003, but am still 99% bedridden taking 5 80ng doses per day. I also take Oxycode, Norco, Soma, Valium Klonipin, etc.

I just got my prescription and was surprised to see OP on the pill, so.
I called the pharmacy and I received the same responses you guys did. So, I said, oh well and took the medicine. About 20 minutes later my stomach began to hurt. Then I started developing a bad headache and esophygial spasms. I could actually feel the pill making it ways down my body as a pain followed it down. Within the hour I had a screaming headache, felt like getting sick, severe stomach cramps, severe back cramps (I mean severe) and severe leg weakness. I only felt some pain relief after about 3 hours and it only lasted for a couple of hours, but the side effects went on.
This went on all day long today. I can't sleep or maybe don't want to.
I always wake up in severe pain and maybe my body is trying to keep me awake.
I have never abused these drugs, even though doing so would likely have helped !
What is going on here ? I feel like a Lab Rat ! I wasn't warned of a change in medication and never heard about this in the news or in the newspaper.
Those not ill like us will save their money and just buy heroin !
This sounds like a scam to me. The company makes a new abuse-proof med, gains the confidence of Dr's who have stopped scripting them, which is most of them, and in the end will make more money by increasing their market share !!
So, I guess they will be selling them for a lot less and developing an expensive drug to counteract all our future problems, right ?
This makes me sick(r) !

Been on oxycontin for 10 yrs. Have had to take 8 of the 10 mg. thru out the day due to the fact that taking the 20 mg's would make me sick. Got new ones about 3 weeks ago and called pharmacy to see if there a mistake-no just new formulation. Haven't been able to figure out why have burning pain in esophogus(already have Barret's esophogus-burning, stabbing headache between eyes and horrible burning in ears. Have many allergies so thought maybe having an allergy to something in air. Eyes bright red along with face. Feel so horrible-absolutely no appetite.
Tale oxycontin for botched dental procedure where clipped a nerve in mouth plus trigeminal neuralgia and lymes disease. Haven't been able to tolerate any other drugs. Haven't been able to talk or do much of anything since on these damn things. Now I know it's them causing the burning pain after reading this site. Thank you all for the info.

Anyone who gets the new Oxycontin Ops and they are not helping with your pain,PLEASE call 800-332-1088 and report it to the FDA,This is our only chance to get the real pain killers back!!! They will send a form to fill out,I already did it,but its going to take everyone who feels like the new pills are not helping them to try and get the old ocs back

Please don't blame the Pharmacist. What's with the comment about ruthless Pharmacists? We order what's available, we don't make the drugs, we don't price the drugs and we didn't make the decision to change the drug. Neither did PF for the matter, they were basically forced by the DEA.
