I've been taking the oxycontin oc for years now. I want to know what exactly is in the new oxycontin op? PLEASE HELP

Wow! I take them as well and I do not see ANY difference as well. In fact, the ONLY people that I know personally who are complaining about it are the ones who abused it. I've only heard the I'm choking on phlegm and making me sick to my stomach from known snorters in my family. These same people were ALL faking SSI claims and having medicaid paying for thier oxy's while trading and dealing with each other when they snorted themselves out of meds. Waaaahh... you guys were so smug when they took the generic off the market and the Dr. couldn't try to make you go on that. I've had 2 firends die in the last year from abusing it like that. DEAL WITH IT.

Please don't blame the Pharmacist. What's with the comment about ruthless Pharmacists? We order what's available, we don't make the drugs, we don't price the drugs and we didn't make the decision to change the drug. Neither did PF for the matter, they were basically forced by the DEA.

I have terminal cancer and this medicine, whatever OC now OP, has been prescribed to me for chornic pain. I hear there is not difference between the two, well I am here to tell u there is. It takes longer to work, I can tell when medicine has taken effect, duh, the pain is not as bad. Before the OP I did not have these sid effects, now I do. I asked my Oncologist whould this drug that has been changed in some way, because people were crushing and snorting, well all I can say is my life is filled with pain 24/7 and one, if this change makes medicine not work as well, I will tell, second, if this change hurts me, given the fact that I am on other drugs like Chemo, I will hold whoever resposible, since I was not even told about the change, the only way I knew was the price of this new medicine went from 8 or 900 and some dollars to 1100.00 and I am on Medicaid, I have small co-pay and could not afford if for not having this covered. I just hope people who really care for the ones that take there medication the right way, well just don't punish us for others addiction. Are you ignorant to the fact that these people will find a way and that way may kill them, I PRAY not, but I feel this is not good. Who would I hold responsible if the change hurts me, my stomach does hurt, I can tell its different, and as long as I've made these notes and what happens everyday since switching, I will have proof that if something goes wrong, I will hold person responsible for this change, and don't say its the abusers, cause somebody making money if charging Medicade more, a lot more and I feel bad, but try living this life knowing you are gonna die and sometimes the pain, if u only

Sorry did not mean to go on, and I hope someone will tell me who to hold resposible if I get sicker with whatever product they used to make this drug the way it is and who or why would it cost more and why punish us, if u r, because if I have to change Medicines because of this, I don't know what it anything would help this pain and to put me thru these changes is not fair to me or the ones having to pay more because Insurance Co.s are gonna want to change or not cover certain drugs. My life is still a good life, I'm alive, but hope and pray this will not fall back on the wrong people who do not abuse this or any other drug. I pray for you that do. Not only Insurance and them paying more, Chemo's enough and I take 3, but the chemicals they used to do this or will my pain be worse and then will my Oncologist change me to something else? To the pharmacist..in my personal experience..i have found the majority to be indifferent and presumptuous. Because i must take oxycontin for severe pain..i am treated as if i am a drug addict. That is just plain wrong. I had kidney cancer and doctors were trying to find the right pain medication. One day after a doctors appointment..my husband took a new pain medicine to the pharmacy and this rude indifferent pharmacist refused to fill my prescription and RED FLAGGED me!! It took much time and effort by my doctor to work this out. Sir/ma,am this is inexcusable!! If i had not been so ill i would have sued the guy for slander!!.I could tell you more horror stories but won't. If you are the minority and actually care with action to back it up where it's not just word's than i salute you as well as thank you.
Now..to 'bunch of liers'. I am happy your new formula of oxycontin work's well for you..but dear..butylated hydroxytene(BHT) HYPROMELLOSE, POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL (this is an ingrediate put in anti-freeze) POLYETHYLENE OXIDE, (PLASTIC) titanium dioxide, POLYSORBATE, RED IRON OXIDE. at least one of these is a carcinogen!! Canada classifys one ingrediate a class a carcengen as well as europe. Canada will not allow the new formula for their patient's!! The unmitagagted facts if this new formula is TOXIC to kidney's..liver..heart and brain as to my understanding and research! You are ingesting plastic dear! Many many of the side effects are because of this plastic..many can not tolerate these ingrediates. Wether this is true i know not..but rumor has it a statement was put out that 'all patient's complaing about side effects are those abusing oxycontin..bulls--t.. yes there is some truth but much deception in that statement.There are patients who do not abuse this drug..but know of the elements in the new formula that are wondering if 2 years down the road are they going to develop kidney cancer..liver problems..brain problems. Can you 'bunch of liers' assure everyone taking the op that it is totally harmless??? And the polyethylene glycol is not toxic? What about the polysorbate. I wager and i hope to God i'm wrong..but somewhere down the road patients will get sicker and sicker from these new ingredients. How can this not be??!! Please tell me!! How can plastic not harm our bodies??!! These are my concern's. I have had at least 2 pharmcists tell me i am right in being alarmed! There is at least one case of a pain patients who took these new oxycontin as precribed..she swallowed her dose..did not chew..no abuse and not only did she not suffer pain relief but these pills went through her digestive system completely whole. Do you know what happens to the eldery who have high blood pressure and they are thrown into withdrawels because they can not digest their med's??? They suffer uncontrollable blood pressure and have strokes! Assure me please that these new oxycontins will not harm anyone and don't quote off purdue's web page..they lied before..they stated oxycontin would not cause addiction or a low % of those taking this drug would suffer from addiciton. That was a blatent lie... As far as i know the FDA did only a 2 year study on the side effects from this new formula..we both know that is not enough!

OK, you have no clue what you are talking about. I am a chemist by trade and specialized in plastics adn polymers (no I don't expect you to understand what that means). Ethylene Glycol (antifreeze) and POLYethylene glycol are only similar in name. It is a type of wax that is also sometimes used in HIGH doses alone as a mild laxative and IS NOT A TOXIC SUBSTANCE. The hydrocodone is more toxic to your kidneys than anything else that you mentioned. Iron oxide is by nature red, it is the fancy name for rust-the kind you find on iron containing matierials like steel.Keep crying about it because you can't snort it. I haven't noticed ANY difference in its effectiveness at all and I've been taking it for 5 years at the same dosage. Before you start misinforming anyone about chemicals try googling MSDS followed by the name of the chemical name (material safety data sheets) and they will tell you any chemical reactivity or toxicity. By the way Sodium Chlide is in table salt but alone either sodium or chlorine can kill you if ingested but together they make our food taste better. Go cry to your doctor and MAYBE he won't dump you for the obvious complaint made by abusers. OH-and educate yourself about chemicals before you make claims about them.

You know what 'bunch of liers' i have tried talking to my pharmacist..i have called purdue..i have gotten on line to research and i have not found answer's to reassure me that the new oxycontin will be ok. I would truely appreicate any feedback you have to offer as i am ignorant and am willing to listen. I want..NEED reassurance so please try and be a little more informative. I am not going to defend myself with your accusations as they are untrue as well as unkind. I really go out of my way to not hurt nor offend someone. I want answers..not accusations sir. If you are a chemist i very much appreciate your feedback as do the other's in this forum. There is an ingrediate in the oxycontin..actually in both versions that i beleive are carcengenic ..can you elaborate on those..as u are a chemist.then you would know what they are. And can you do so without behaving like a 2 year old who just threw a tantrum because those questioned this formual..these were honest inquires. The very fact we patients are not chemists nor doctors and must trust our lives into the hand's of maybe people like you is unsettling In fact i am wrong even to rebuke you as the bible tells me 'not to rebuke an angry person.

And by the way.. what 'chemist' misspells sodium choride as well as says..'waaa'aaaa' But i suppose a jekyll and hide personality exhibits such a contradition. Are you from Purdue..the company that now 2 top guys are serving a jail sentance for lying about the low possibility of addiction from oxycontin? It's one of the most addicitve med's one can take. The warning on most laxatives tell one to take for only and nor more than 2 week's. Why is that? 'methinks you protest's too much'

to those patients who are suffering so much..i have to apologize in expressing my fears and anxiety over the new formula of oxycontin.. 'Bunch of lier's is correct in saying that in some of my concern's with the new formula may be in error..i just don't know but i don't want to create confusion and panic . I know those thing's i read concerning the new formula are not encouraging. We need to each do his research and find out for ourselves before we take as gospel truth what other's are saying about the op's. I have not taken the new op's..but after reading 2500 comment's from those who claim to be taking this med..90% of these ppl. are having serious side effect's such as vomiting..bad stomach pain..serious headaches..to me this say's 'something' is not right and wouldn't it be classified as toxic to produce such side effects? 'Bunch of lier's' please forgive me for my anger.. not all of us who take oxycontin are abusing them..as a chemist perhap's you could be the one to help us understand and be comfortable with the new formula and not be so frightened. And why would so many ppl. be having such bad side effect's? Any suggestion's for those who are truely suffering and do not wish to get high nor abuse their med's but just seek to feel better? Titanuim dioxide is in both version's of the oxycontin..the 2 new ingrediant's are the BHT and i can't remember the other one.. 'bunch of lier's..what is BHT ? And the other substance? And can you explain how they work?

BHT...one of the new ingrediant's in new oxycontin formula. Butylated Hydroxytoluene or BHT is an anti-oxidant which react's with oxygen free radical's to slow down the antioxidation rate of ingrediates in a product that can cause changes in taste or colour. Is used in cosmetic's,pharmaceutical's,jet fuel,rubber, petroleum product's, electrical transformer's,oil and embalming fluid.Yummy!! I keep reading and reading, but what actions are you taking about the problems you are having? It is your duty, for your safety, also mine as I am a terminal Cancer Patient with Pailitive care or pain control and Chemo all I have, anyway, what has anyone done? I have documented all the changes, the side effects, the difference in the pain control time and relief ammount, everything associated with this change of my 80mgOC to 80mgOP, everything I have read, just anything to make sure I have my ducks in a row when the lawsuits start, because after taking the OPs, I'm sorry you non believers, there is a different. I do not abuse drugs, I have terminal Cancer and before I die would like to live without some pain. The pain is still there 24/7, but at least OCs gave me more relief than these OPs. Thank you Tom (#14) for information and web page, I suggest others visit that site. Thank you, also Stormin(#20), seems you have compassion when some on this site think we are complaining because we are drug addicts that snort, or abuse this drug, well for all who don't (including me) don't and will fight for my rights and I want it in writing, FDA, GOV, etc. That this drug is same as OCs. I demand it and I demand that the products they are using will not have adverse effects (in writing) and documentation why this change was necessary, when the cost has gone up. People are gonna loose lives because of this, you all need to WRITE, CALL, COMPLAIN and get that documentation that the drug works, ON PAIN, the same as the OC and that we Chronic Pain Patients are getting same quality of relief as with OC. I do not need this stress, Cancer feeds on stress, so need you all to help and stand up for our rights not drug abusers! Also want to know why the need to change to OP, was there a problem with OC I need to know about that may have hurt me? All this needs to be in wrting. Maybe the OCs were hurting us or had something discovered that they found out and not telling us. Again in writing. If I have to personally write the President of the US to find out what's going on, this health care problem we have and they changing medications, ONLY to prevent abuse, and the price of this drug went way up, is this helping with crisis we are in?? Needless, that money for research could have went to better use like Metastatic Cancer, No Cure, Death Sentence, 3 to 5 yrs, more if your are lucky and God has a plan for your life, hey maybe this is mine, LOL, really tho, let's just think about it, keeps good notes, documents, daily diares and think about this another way. Is this chan a cover up for something bad OCs were doing to us not to mention what these other ingredients are and will do. I know that is far fetched, its all about the abuae, but none the less, I feel violated, and not gonna just type here and complain, talking to a Lawyer let him do the research and if anyone who would have a doctor in family, ASK and get all in writing!!!!!!!!!!! Hey Anna tell the Chemist to put it on paper, in writing right here, as a matter of fact, that as a chemist, you would stand up and defend this change and also put in wrting that this change has in no way changed the way this drug works on pain as did the OC. Can he do that? I want to read that response! What about it?? Will you assure us??

'do something' your correct in telling us all to call..write not just accept this without reassuring answer's. I think 'bunch of lier's the chemist' was either perhap's one of 2 thing's..a guy/women who had nothing better to do but to ridicule..demean..threaten and just try and make someone's day bad OR and this is very very far fetched..he/she is a plant meant to not educate those who have honest inquires but threaten..demean..ridicule..show contempt as way of keeping us quiet and not to ask question's. Either one is not acceptable.

Ok. here is the new ingrediant in new formula oxycontin.polyethylene glycol.. polyethylene glycol is used in the laxitive miralax..the side effect's are 'bloating..cramps gas nausea. I don't know if the warning to not take this for more than two week's is because of the dependancy in using a laxitive or if it means polyethylene glycol can be toxic if used for more than 2 weeks. hmm..guess we better find out.

First to the person #24 who has terminal cancer... I pray for you and I'm so sorry for your illness.
Second, after 4 days of being constipated, I checked my stools... the whole oxys I took went through, the ones I cut hoping the medication would work that way and be released, went through. I now understand why I've still been in pain. My Doctor told me to give the remaining to her and she'll give me Morphine instead or the Lidoderm patch. I guess she doesn't read my chart since I'm allergic to Morphine and that patch literally was eating my skin away and left permanent bruising.
I get so mad at this person I know that get 40's x2 a day and turns around and sells them! She used to be on something else but found out the Oxy's were worth more on the street. I don't know how she did it but she's been getting them for 2-3 years now and each time I hear she sold them (my own sister used to abuse them until she went to coke then crack. I have no sympathy for her or her fiance or what will happen to them. I tried the 'Intervention' but my parents and my sis put 'me' in the hospital! I told my Mom 'I tried to help her but you all refuse to listen to me' As for that woman... her APRN (also mine) never did a thing to her but 'increase' her dose! When I heard she sold them I told the APRN right away and said 'just ask for her meds to count them' for over a year she believed 'every' excuse! People like 'this' are the very ones causing the problems for 'us'. 3 months in a row she was called to bring her meds in and would only have 5 left or none and the APRN 'still' does nothing! People like this are also the problem. 'Knowing' the abuse and 'letting it slide'.
I have to pack due to going homeless so I'm taking what ever relief I can get at this point with the OP's but 'am' calling that # you gave for the FDA to put in a complaint and also turning in the APRN since she also 'deals' for my sister. If they want to spend money on something, why not do something to cure #24's cancer? Where I live, the next town over is the drug town, I had dealers right under my window and a Police car on the next corner! It's insane to even 'think' changing the Oxy is going to change 'anything! I was assaulted by 3 people standing up to them for drug abuse in my home but got them out all the same. Loosing my voice was worth it to me knowing the kids in this neighborhood won't be subjected to these people.
I hope Purdue wakes up and brings the reg OC back. It 'helped' more people. I used to be afraid I'd get addicted to the OC, 'all' drugs scare me because I see what they do to others. The only thing I'll sniff are flowers and nasel drops up my nose (I heard that's addicted too but what isn't?)
I tried to fight the war on drugs and lost many times and have the battle scars to prove it. Just because Purdue is a big corporation doesn't mean 'they' can.
Talking about 'Purdue', I have to get my chicken in the oven and make that call to the FDA.

I just read an interesting article by a mom whose son had developed serious health problems after using the laxitive ..miralax.. the main ingrediante in miralax is POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL (PEG) PEG is an agent found in most skin cleanser's, is a caustic used to dissovle grease-the same substance you find in oven cleaner. The literature on PEG states that it is nephrotoxic if absorbed by the body. That means it's toxic to the kidney's. (the current fda studies has said PEG has low toxicity) there is a great contraditon. Other reports concerning PEG toxicity in rabbit's- they all died of renal failure. What is your problem bunch of liars? For a chemist and by nature a scientist which you say you are nothing should off the table... like you are stating they are exactly the same, for you... They may fuction exactly the same in you but in me and others they are not the same. They feel totally different, my stomach is crampy and they don't seem to work as well. I do not abuse them I do not snort them or chew them or abuse them in any fashion, I take them exactly as directed and have for 4 years. I have CP syndrome, Multiple sclerosis, Myofacial pain syndrome, acute spasms where I can't move my legs or bend my neck without pain control and before they were helping me live and now they don't seem the same. Where is all of the anger from bunch of liars? We are here to share our problems so as not to feel so alone in the world and someone like you gets involved and derails the whole conversation. And I doubt you are a true chemist/scientist and if you are you were probably fired for being a nasty person with a disgusting personality whom nobody can work with. I would not be surprised if you are divorced twice with 2 kids that hate you. I feel bad for you. People here are just trying to get advice and get to the bottom of their problems not to get stomped on by a nasty person like you. I hope these OP pills continue to work well for you and I am truly happy for you if they do/are. If you are a chemist I have a suggestion for you, try to find a solution to the issue that the people who ARE having problems with the OP version and tell Purdue about it. You could make a fortune. To all whom are having problems w/ the new OP version, like me, I am so sorry, I am having the stomach cramping, bad taste, burping/gas and nausea too and there has got to be a reason for it.. I have never and would never abuse these pills, ever, they have been an extremely useful tool but it seems that that time has ended because these things firstly don't kick in for 2 hours following ingestion and for that two hours I feel sick as a dog and even after 6 hours. Something is not right and now I know it is not just me. Take care.

Diane, thank you for your Prayers, I do need as much help as can get. Yours and Kimberlys reply at least has calmed me down and don't feel so stressed because I know someone is listening and may get some real help. Even if they do not go back to OC, it was not and still not right the way the FDA snuck up on us with no warning, knowing we would be getting these OPs and I fully believe they did that because they do not work as fast or as good for our pain. Why where we not warned, just in case of allergic reactions and many other reasons I am still looking into. As long as we stick together, not listen to the addicts complaining and trying to accuse us of same, well the accusation in itself, the old saying u accuse someone, u usually one doing it. Kimberly thank u for the info on ingredient Polyethylene Glycol, I am taking this occasional for constipation, Dr. Prescribes, says on bottle Polyethylene Glycol 3350 NF take 17grams, taking more, toxic side effects. So here's another thing, its the allergic reaction and using for more than 2 wks worries me, but will ask Oncologist. I just want to know, also, why we were not notified of this change? I mean if someone did not post here about a lot of things we would not know and not know what is going on with this medicine. Well I will die finding out, that's for sure. Someone is causing the ones who are in so much pain, like us, and take like we should to still be in PAIN. I wish Mr. Chemist could live one day in my shoes, he would not contend that these are the same and work the same, THEY DON'T. I may be jumping around a bit, but so excited, got so much want to say, cause I smell a rat, and I am in pain right now and I take 80mg 3 times day w/breakthru, and for 3 weeks now, in misery. I have also not been this sick on stomach even with Chemo every week than I am with change. The reason I can blaim OPs that is all that has changed these past weeks. Kimberly I read that when taking polyethylene glycol that u would not see full results for TWO weeks, so if that's an additive in OPs, looks like that in itself would prove med would be less in strength and in time release slower, right? Anyway, let's hang in there, write, call and hope for the best. I don't see my Dr for 3 weeks, so don't know what he will suggest. Hope not Morphine, that's for when I'm in Hospice and in bad shape. Might not be that long either, this stress over so much no real pain relief, took that away from me, now what will I go thru trying other meds, what's Medicade gonna say, oh well that's the world we live in. I will also tell u another change I've noticed, breaking out all over, more nausea, this week so bad, they had to give me a shot before Chemo this week. Can't wait to see what my Dr has to say and if he was alerted of this change, since I was not, just in case of allergic reaction with what Chemos I am taking, did the 2 year test include me? Or did that not matter, dying anyway. Well I'm am going to go take my OP, the right way and another sleepless night, but who cares? Sorry not some of u. Will Pray for the TRUTH to be known, and come out, and it will, might come into some money, huh? LOL. I'd give all the money in the world to not be in the shape I am in and be playing with my grandson like a MawMaw should. Pray for me and wish FDA would have used that money for me a cure. anna-any misspelled words are just from typing too quickly with my crappy laptop keyboard that sticks on certain letters sometimes. Which ingredient did you think was a carcinogen? Look up the MSDS for it and it will tell you the health risks, if any, for the chemical. again sometimes chemicals can take on totally different properties when compounded with others so it would be hard to tell from an ingredients list that something is carcinogenic or not. Sorry about the tone. My personal experiences with oxycontin, some recently tragic, with people and family have cut close to my heart. I've had family members who know I take it try to get some from me when they run out by threating to call my workplace or my kids coaches, etc. All because I take mine the way I am supposed to and I won't play their game.

I also am facing this. Call the FDA ask to send forms and give them hell. As for Purdue, they seemed to have lost a class action law suit of over 640 Million$ and here's our chance to hit them again. The added in active ingredent is Polyethylene Oxide and well it can be done with little or no testing, maybe! But its time to hit all involved. Its the binders that are the problem and your Doctor knows this. So do the, everyone from the top down, have their nose in this.
call the FDA and get the forms from them fill them out and send them. Tell your local news, your paper, and tell everyone on the internet. keep a log of ever day your being used as a LAB RAT. Even how your doctor handles your case and pain. Expose them all. If this does go to a class action suit, well we can flood them with data. Best way to drop them to their knees. Go on line to the FDA get your forms sent ,I have.

basically they are doin the same thing to the oc`s as they did to methylphenidate ( crushable snortable ritalin is now uncrushable unsnortable lactate containing concerta) :( all good things come to an end most likely they have added a irritant and or lactate so they will most likely clump when crushed!
