Given the protective qualities of the new Oxy OP, if you cut, say a 40mg tab in half, does it still release the drug slowly? I noticed there is no warning label on the bottle saying do not chew. In other words, given the new formulation, if cut in half does it still retain its slow release quality?

It seems to me you have a drug habit. Especially, when you said "If I don't get my way then I will go get Heroin. Do you hear yourself talking????? Your problem is your body has developed a high tolerance level and that is why you can't get out of pain. Why are you taking that much pain medicine to begin with? Do you realize that your kidneys are going to shut down and you will die. Take for example if you had a heart attack the doctor is not going to give you MORE drugs. You will be laying there in total pain. Any good doctor would take you off the drugs.....If it is your back then go get it operated on and fixed for good. GET OFF THE DRUGS....

You may to switch up to an implant which delivers morphine into your systems. Ea ch month the doctor will fill up the implanted device and it will last you for one month. In the alternative, you can have him switch you to 30 mg morphine tablets.

I been through 6 failed lower back operations, damage nerve scar tissue on nerve, 5 deteriorated discs in upper back (3 severe), multiple bone spurs and 2 bulging discs in my neck. The 40mg oxycontin SUCKS!!! 1 takes to damn long to work and does NOT LAST 8 HOURS. I'm going to have a talk with my pain doc to see if I can get the 80mg. I can chew 2 40mg and they still do not last long. I've been on the 40s for 6 years and 15mg oxycodone but they only calm my pain down for about 6 hours.

I am on oxycontin 40 my. I find if I get it from the hospital where the drug is more potent it works.
However I have gone to my pharmacist and got the same medicine with much reduced potency. I am in the process of ordering more from my pharmacist, but if it doesn't work I will return to the hospital.
Drugs do have different potency and you should bear that in mind and vary you pharmacist until you find one with high potency. Presently I might suffering but I found an old tablet the other day from the hospital and had a pain free day.

Okay so one person says you can not cut a op 40 in half and another says you can cut an op 40 in half. Which answer is correct and how long does a halved op 40 last? I only took half hoping it wouldn't last all day. These new op 40s honestly suck. If you want to take half so it won't last but half time it doesn't so now I'm going to have to operate a vehicle and heavy machinery because I thought a halved op 40 would only last half the time. Doctors sure do have a way of making it hard on people that dont need the effects to last all day long. I can't find an answer to my question on the whole internet regardless to how long a halved op 40 last. I have to work at 2pm and I took my meds at 7am this morning. Should it be losing its effect before 2pm? I really hope so. I have talenal 3 300/30mg I have to take today and now I am scared to take the 30mg codeine. If this medicine last all day I will never take another op 40 as long as I live. This is ridiculous. They should leave medicine alone instead of worrying about everyone that's O.D'ing. If they are dumb enough to take a bunch of 40mg oc let them suffer the consequences. People like me who need the medicine should not have to take a pill that last 8 to 12 hours. I would be calling my doctor to ask this question but she is out g town on vacation. I really need to know how long this prescribed op 40 halved will last. Just looking for a simple answer not a full on doctor's report about how the medicines half life will not change the duration. What does that even mean?

I am not looking to feel high off of this medicine and I am not addicted to the medicine. I was just prescribed it 3 days ago. A whole 40 op is too strong for me and causes me to be ill. Taking half of the op 40 didn't seem to cut the mg strength down. In fact it seemed to make the medicine stronger.

methadone is the best pain med and the one with the least side effect s long term..if u can find a new doctor this one is clearly not caring for your needs...if your in pain that is awful....if u been on 6 yrs its clearly a chronic thing...so methadone has kept my aunt alive since 1970..she doesn't abuse it and doesn't do any other drugs...she is on it 46 yrs and more active than many ppl half her age..methadone can be adjusted and it works...because it builds up in your liver...and stays there..good luck its just my opinion

Do not go up. Telling you. Just like above. Once again you hit the same problem even if 3 80s a day and 5 30 mg oxycodones. It' just blows. When you are that dosed and it's still not work. Dialing off is sooooo hard. Don't do it man. You will regret more later. Great for 3 months than same place. That is why smart doctors don't like to go up. But they should all prescribe 2-3 days ahead so you don't go through living hell. Now that is bad management. They do that and it's definitely ok 2 days prior. But don't go up. Also why not take 4 20 instead of cut 4 into 8. Same thing. However is you cut all up it does have more area to pull from So won't last as long but a little more power. Slight.

I hear ya buddy my back is a mess, all kinda things wrong, i had a problem with getting my OP 40mg cuz the pharmacy had to order them, and becouse dr.'s dont want to give you your script 3 days early i always am 3 days late, got me, so today i ran out and that suck, so i cut 1 of the op 40's in half i hope that half will last 7 hours, i hope it still has time release stuff in it

NEVER cut oxy's in half....NEVER!! your body will always want you to cut it from there on in & would probably need to take 2 or 3 uncut oxy's for your body to feel normal...

I've been in tons of pain for quite awhile, been proscribed anything you can think of!! Since I've gone back to smoking weed I literally take 1/4 of meds..I just wish it was legal..our could have saved my mom's life n I'm sure soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many others..but yes, when it comes to pain, cannabis is what you need..

I believe Marajuana with a high level of CBD (cannabinoids) would be your next option. I travel to Colorado to get Medical -- and yes, they can tell you the CBD/THC content. Why not. Way safer than Heroin with less time in prison if caught with it.

Sounds like an excuse. Your best bet would be to take your OxyContin as prescribed and your percs as prescribed and get yourself some good marijuana. Marijuana is a good relaxant and helps greatly with pain, thus why states are starting to legalize it because it is safer than any opiate on the market. It grows from the ground, we pick it, dry it, and consume it. Pills, now that is a different story, they are filled with binders and not to mention acetaminophen which taking too much, especially on a daily basis absolutely destroys your liver. If you are in so much pain and your dr will not up your pain meds then it's time to go to another doctor. I wish you the best of luck. Go to Pain Management. Some of them know what they are doing, if you are really in such bad pain try dilaudid 8mg or even better 40MG of Opana. Opana is a long acting pain pill that works wonders for pain, in between the opana take norco (hydrocodone) or percocets (oxycodone). Good luck with everything.
