I have read on some other sites that purdue has made public an article which discusses the breakdown of OP. However the article greys out the areas they do not wish the public to see.
Apparently there are various methods and possible solvents which breakdown the product but as i said none of the published articles make public the specific solvents/compounds used -- So the short answer is not really. There are a lot of experiments being discussed within various forums but none of which i would consider trying.

I imagine that someday someone will figure out the solution but who knows when that might be.. If there were a way to market some sort of kit that you could purchase to breakdown the OPs a fortune could be made!

I just hope that purdue alters the existing formula to be at least equal to the potency of the OC. As the current product is not as strong albeit longer lasting.

Take care

The generics are the same as the old 80'S they are made by ESSEX OC 80 on the other side. They look the same and are the same. My wife just got them last night. When I went a few weeks ago the drug store had the Watson generics. Now I have no idea how old they were but they worked great. So when my wife went the pharmacist said that the generic is the same as the now old brand OC 80. IF you can ask your DOC to write generic only on your script. Good Luck ALL

Talot- The dilaudid is definitely a good try. It is stronger than oxycodone/oxycontin. If you lookup Opiate Strength Chart on google like I said, you will see the differences in the strengths of different opiates that are prescribed. Its based off morphine, the opiate original. It's really funny how much Americans are into opiates these days. It's opium derivitaves in a pill, just all a different way and is used mainly for pain relief but also for drug recreational use. Think of past generations and even cultures today who base their lives upon use of opium like the chinese and persians. It's a very important drug in the history of our world, and right now for us. It all comes from a flower, and is like the argument that marijuana comes from a plant, so do opiate pills. Vicodin and norco are probably the most widely used opiates and most people dont even know they are...I know when i first took them i didnt know it. But those people who take that think they can talk s--t to those who take oc for some reason? They just dont know that they are taking a weaker version of an opiate. Oxymorphone is the strongest opiate pill there is, then hydromorphone, then oxycodone. Fentanyl, being a patch is wayy stronger than all of them and when u see the chart ul see how much stronger. Its like 1000x stronger than morphine! We are just looking to keep our pain away and it really does suck that they have to make it like this...and NEVER EVEN WARNED US! Just because its tamperproof the FDA wanted to approve it! But they don't care that we dont get the same relief. Well like i said, endo pharma came out with opana and is going to take over because no generic(mallinckrodt at the moment) suffices at the moment. I didn't like opana as much but it will do better than these ops. Dilaudid is also a good try. It really sucks trying new meds when u had something that worked so well for you! I dont want to be nodding out and buzzed where i gotta sit on the couch. I need to be productive and work without pain so when i bend down to clean something I dont have daggers digging into my lower back! even with the meds i STILL have pain and i just dont want to take more than i already do because I dont want to be more dependent on meds already more than i am, but I also atleast get MUCH better relief than taking tylenol or aleve which do absolutely nothing...neither do tramadol and those dumb NSAID's they try to give you. It is NOT mental, its PHYSICAL! Yes my mind is telling me there is pain, because the brains pain receptors are sending millions of pain neurotrasmitters caused by something that is not normal! I have 3 herniated discs, spondylolisthesis and spondylolisthis, anterololisthesis in my L4/L5 Lumbar and fractures on both sides with pinched nerve that seems to never get better no matter how much physical rehabilitation i do. So DONT tell me i dont have pain DOCTOR! Dont you hate when the doctor tries to say how much pain u have or should have based on the xrays and mri's?? They aren't in our shoes and CANT understand it. Its sad they feel like they know because they have a phd and established business. Ive seen about 8 docs about my back and only one has understood me. Unfortunately I dont live near that doctor anymore and have a new one who is trying to tell me I dont need this medication and its pissing me off! Iv tried sooo many meds and it just so happens that even tho there are stronger meds than oxy, it is the best for me because of the limited side effects and great pain relief. I HATE that it has a bad wrap and makes docs scared of scribing it. I have a friend who had the surgery for spondylolisthesis, who didnt have it as bad as i do, and he had to be revived because they touched his sacral which is keeping me from doing it. He takes the same meds still and he is only 26, but takes more than me due to tolerance. So are we going to take this the rest of our lives? It has only been out 15 years so we dont really know what long term use does so do we really want to be stuck on pain meds the rest of our lives? I mean it SUCKS being in insane pain, but i hope there is something in this next decade of new technology that can fix pain somehow!? Like i said, as a country we are with high intake of pain meds, especially opiates which are proven to be the best for it. So what is the future of pain relief? Acupuncture and decompression only last so long. We have a long way to go and sucks to come to reality that its only getting worse for the time being. Yes, people who abuse are going to heroin and healthcare changing who knows if we will afford the meds we need. This uncertainty is leading to fear which is the worst thing for the psyche. This only means more meds and more problems. Or more drugs for that matter. Do any of you know of The Green Revolution!!!??? We must make for our generational revolution to change our world and country for the best. Energy independence is so huge that it is incomprehendable. ENergy, War, and Healthcare are our top 3problems right now, even tho the banks and real estate are huge too; they are behind them. Innovation is needed to change the way we do things and ssave us money. Imagine if youdidnt need to pay for gas!? Wouldnt you drive and do more things? You would also have more money to work with right? This is something that effects EVERYONE and is why energy is such a huge problem. I want to get the word out so people start talking about this. I hope you guys can spawn off this because Iv gone too long and most probably wont even read this whole thing becuase its too long. LOL! Well hope for the best. Op's arent the biggest problem, atleast we have other options. As for cars, we can only get a hybrid at the time being and they are holding back technology that we've had for centuries because they wont make money from oil and gas which in my college Macro Economics class, we found to be the #1 problem with our economy and if u look at it in a big picture u will see why. Watch Who Killed the Electric Car and that will open some minds. God Bless!!!!!!!!

PainSucks- Where did u find these Essex ocs? Im pretty sure unless that pharmacy had them leftover from a while ago they arent anything new due to the patents pudue has and mallinchrodt is the only one with one now that is or already expired. So all there should be is op for the moment. But let me know otherwise!??

Kjun- No there isn't a way, not even if you were a chemist. Dont waste your time! look for opana instead. The op has time release throughout the whole pill and is binded where you will get timerelease so there is no way to seperate the bind. It's not that big of a deal, just stop shooting up. This is a sign you should stop. Dont do heroin, it's not doing anything good for you I'm sure. Iv known many people who have gone thru it and they only worsen their situation. For medical use to releive pain is the only reason it should be used. Insufflation (snorting) isn't so bad if you know what you are doing. It bypasses the gastrointestinal system and liver to not have near the effect of taking the pill and having it digest everytime. I'm not saying thats what you should do, but it's actually a reason people do and some think its their cocaine but its not. Shooting and smoking the pill is absolutely not right. Smoking it is probably the worst because who knows the effect it has on the brain and it creates a high mental addiction. Iv asked if it releives pain and they say it doesnt and just gives a nice buzz which is why they made these ops and puts us in this predicament. Its time for change, just like with our whole government and how we live with many different aspects of life. Sorry to preach to the choir but really u gotta admit smoking and shooting up oc doesnt do anything good for you in the longrun. Idk your situation but if you complain of the new op cuz u cant smoke or shoot it up anymore then ur staring the problem in the face. If u just need to face your extreme pain then i feel for you because that is where i am. The new ops last longer but arent near as strong. I am going to switch to opana and i suggest that. Good luck and God Bless!

Hey Palmsprings to your answer no the pharmacy did not have them left over. What happen was when we went to get the script filled they only had 20 generics left and the script was for 180 80mg. So the pharmacist said they would have the rest the next day. They gave my wife the 20 pills they had and the next day the rest came in. We have been using that drug store for many, many years I am in my late 40's and my parents used that store when I was a kids. The people there are great people. I know what everyone will say that they are not supposed to fill partial scripts well we have legit health problems so I have no problems getting things filled. And the pharmacist showed me the generic bottle with the Essex name. He had several bottles that they sent him, so yes they are the now old 80mg Oxy with OC on one side and 80 on the other side. Maybe its our location why they were able to get them. Anyway good luck he the pharmacist order enough to fill our scripts for the next 6 months. All we have to do is bring in our scripts every month. FYI they still had the 40mg OC regular in. The pharmacist said that it was mostly the 80m and 60mg that was changed first and the rest MG will follow. As I said good luck I showed my Doctor what happen when I took the new 80mg OP it got stuck in my throat and puffed up. Per my Doctor I contacted Purdue Pharma and explained what happen there is a phone number for Adverse reactions when taking the new reformulated Oxycontin. Call 888-726-7535 select Opt #2 maybe the more people who call they may do something. Good Luck

PainSucks- Thats very interesting, i have actually never heard of essex and am going to look them up right now. I am going to call all the pharmacies around here to see if any have the regular left because i have insurance to pay for it so brand is only 40 more, compared to 1000. Actually I know of people who get 40s and 20s and both cant find either other than op. The Mallinchrodt is even worse than the op and i need to find these essex. Where are you about? Im in palm springs,ca in socal, im sure u know where that is or can find it easily. There are alot of pharmacies around here but there were some robberies for them so all of them were always low on stock and i often had to go pharmacy to pharmacy to just find one that had my script. I wasn't able to find a reliable pharmacy until 2months ago unfortunately and now they only have op. Its the small, private ones that are reliable for them and i really feel better going to those to support the smaller business rather than rite aid or walgreens who charge extra and are huge corporations who dont need the help.
Also, you say you get 180 80s, is that a 2 or 3 month script? Ive never heard of that many being prescribed. FDA actually only approves 3 daily because are supposed to be 12hour release, but can be used as 8. How is yours written? If it is a 1 month prescription that would mean u take one every four hours? You must be in EXTREME pain if thats the case. I have extreme pain and although its constant, when i wake up sometimes its where i can barely get out of bed and walk to the bathroom to get to my medicine which is the first thing i have to do due to the pain. Due to tolerance i think i need an increase in my dosage, but my doctor doesnt like to do more than what i take because im only 22 and it really is sad that my back is as bad as it is. I was a highschool all american football, basketball, and track athlete and did almost every sport you can think of. Ihad an extreme accident snowboarding whichcaused my back problems as i told u last message. I did alot of rehab and going into college i was playing QB football to get a scholarship to play in kansas at bethel and It got much worse taking hits. I was on norco and valium before and got off to pllay football because it wasnt allowed to play on narcotics but after it got worse i had to give it up and lost my scholarship. This is when i got on OC and i FINALLY found relief. These new op are weak and do last longer but dont take the pain like they used to and are much harder to swallow like you said. They just look bad dont they!?? I am going to call and have everyone I know who takes them call to complain and lets get them to go back! or atleast send us who complain the regular ones?!? Im sure they have ALOT leftover and what do you think they are doing with them?? I really think its malpractice on their part to do this without any notice. It just HAPPENED! OC doesnt work for everyone, it reacts differently as does other medications and adverse reactions come to others that dont to others. The reactions i never got to the old ones like upset stomach, increased pain, and discomfort swallowing- I just dont like it and think sometihng should be done. Lets all stand up and puit to the man! I alsot dont know that my doctor would change the mg to fit what it is now to help me get the normal formulation. its just something I dont think he will understand and might raise question that I am an abuser like others who need it to abuse. I am due for surgery within the next few years and being tolerant to these meds already, it is going to take ALOT of meds to keep me from feeling the surgery. Will anesthesia be enough along with other pain relief. There are complex extremeties to my problem other than worrying about ops. But you say the Essex is just like the purdue normal formulation? I will call around tomorrow to find them. Have you had opana? It is oxymorphone instead of oxycodone whic is twice as strong as oc but may have different reactions for you if you are looking for something different. Do you know about the patient assistance program? They send you your script FREE! They used to charge a 25$ copay but no longer do. They make Dilaudid to which is hydromorphone and also stronger by 1.5x. I have tried both and oc for some reason, even tho they are stronger, oc does better for me due to reactions. Thats why oc is so widely used. It has low reactions and does very well takinhg away pain but the change has made new reactions that shouldnt b there. Thanks for the suggestions. God Bless!

JRizzle- What do you mean send it? you can wikipedia or google it and find out about it. What i know is it's oxymorphone and is twice as strong as oxycodone which is oxycontin. it comes in an ER version and IR version. I only tried the ER version which did well for pain but gave me a wierd headchange i didnt like very much. nothing crazy or serious, just rather have the oc, which the new op i dont know if is as good as the opana. Look it up

To all out there, Ethex is a distributor for Purdue threw Walgreens. Purdue bought Ethex but the Walgreens here in California ,Sonoma County ,will be running out from what the pharmists said and it will only be the Purdue OP after that. It seems done. And the Oxy IRs are gone also. Now this Opanas ER and and maybeOpana IR with TimerX in them will be pushed on the patients. It is the way that all chewed crush or IV'd is being stopped to the best of the DEA FDA and all against those who use drugs for everything but pain. Where are the brains out there who just cant stand being told YOU CAN'T going to come up with the breaking down ,what they have built up. I know your out there, make them cry, come on MAKE THEM CRY. I myself only take them as directed for pain but it has changed the dose I should recieve and i vomit up flem looking stringy substance that you can see that the drug particles are being held and havent been released. Been given the Opana ERs and my head had so much pressure like foggy feeling and ears ringing, throat tight, sick vomiting and no appetite. I have reaction to mixing different chemicals and my body will not handle them . skin rash itches, drys out, nails peel, hard lumps on my face, and under my arm, in hair line, in ears. All in my upper body where the drug and chemicals stay until I vomit and leaving before my dose has been deliverd. Its crazy. And I want a great pain reliver but what would be the best from these OXY 80mg Opana Er, what would be the best to take. I do not want another Time Release pill again. Any one have a name of something that might be a good choice. These Dr. are not caring anymore. or for me I must watch what I take cause I could have a reaction. If someone has an idea I'd like to compare their choice.

Just got my new rx filled, oxy 80, they are the op's, and after reading all of this I got out my handy pill splitter (2 bucks) it chopped it in half without any difficulties.Although I would never crush/shoot/sniff this stuff, I realllly find it hard to believe that these topics are discussed so openly here, like they can't trace your IP address? Brave folks..I do have to say, addiction is an ugly thing, fortunatley, I take meds for intractible pain and have never abused them, get 180 of whatever I want at a time,I also have an implanted pain pump., please be careful...if you are misusing your meds, get help...try to quit if your just using them for fun, the worst withdrawel I ever had from opiates has been chills, goosebumps, legs twitching and hellacious stomach ache/diarhhea...that was it, when my pump quit working I didn't even know I was IN withdrawel until I went to the ER...
please everyone be safe...
alcoholism and addiction can only end one of 2 ways, in jail, or in the ground.

oh and btw...I REALLY do not get ANY so called legitimate pain patient's who are concerned about BUZZ EQUALITY or how to bypass the timed release factor on the pill so they can use it in a way other than how it was prescribed..the reason this pisses me off so much is this IS EXACTLY why it is hard to find docs comfortable with prescribing opiates for the appropriate treatment of severe intactable pain of any nature.Don't you see I have read these blogs, docs read em, feds read em..this type of bulls**t is WHY someone who is truely suffering cannot get pain relief we are entitled to. YES, I did say entitled, it is a human right to NOT suffer...but the whole bad apples spoiling the whole bunch rule applies here...docs read this and must freak out, hell, I have been on and off narcs 15 yrs after breaking my back and reading this freaked the hell outta me...how are you expecting any of us true pain patients to be taken seriously when forums like this exists where shooting/sniffing, medicaid/medicare fraud (getting then selling/trading meds not to mention other feloneous activities).. are spoke of like a day at the beach. NOTHING you ever post is private, I know you all must know that..I came to this forum to see what all were so upset about just because they improved a medication...which I happen to take..this is very sad, indeed. :-(

These new oxycontin op are the worst!!!! Husband was on the old formula of oxycontins 40mg been on them for the last 2 years due to back surgery. He was put on the 80 mg oxycontins last month and was fine but this month of October has just been bad!!!!! He has been so sick on them.... throwing up and just has been so sick on them. Plus the time release has just been a nightmare. It take forever. Just praying that they go bck to the old formula. He has no life with all the pain..back in bed and can hardly move. S***ty ass goverment and big pharmacy companies. Things are just going to get worst with the ones who use for fun. Good Luck to all those who are in pain....God bless

Far from high and certainly not that mighty anymore.
I don't have any experience with HOW they work, taken properly, except by my self...personally, I got better pain relief when I was on 2-30's every 8 hours, these 80's jumble my mind, make me hyperactive, nauseated, and talk a hundred miles an hour...but I feel high on them, and am not about chasing that, I am grateful my main method will be functioning again soon and I can flush these. They really do suck, and I mentioned splitting one because i read of people not being able to break these, even with hammer/pliars, which I found to be just one of those things I saw for myself, I did end up taking half, and was so high for 6 hours i was afraid to go to sleep...thats not pain control, thats outtta control...no thanks.

Have any of you ever considered having a pain pump implanted, the advantages are you'll always have pain control, no matter where you go, being a pain patient can attach you to your doctors with umbilical cords, what good is getting quality of life back if you can't travel (yep..had 1 pain doc release me because I went to another country to watch my grandchild being born)
So far Ive had one for 6 yrs, first last almost 6, then current one I have had every problem in the book with, but even on my bad days, it is still better than worrying whether today the FBI will knock down your pain docs door. The Gov't needs to stay the hell out of the doctor/patient relationship, neither should pharmascists second guess their prescriptions...everyone is so worried because all of the diversion/misuse, take that away, and many ppl would have a better quality of life.

Palmsprings,ca22 hey man I know what you mean about sports and injuries i had my first major surgery at 14 years old, tore my patella tendon off the bone broke my leg tore mcl and destroyed my knee had a screw and staple put in. took forever to recover and play basketball again.I played every thing, football, baseball, track, you name it and ten years latter and six major surgery's im in pain every day. i can tell you one thing with so many people abusing these meds I have the hardest time getting any type of relief, was in pm for three years no problems then doc says you are too young cant take these forever and stops prescribing to me just like that, says dea looks at people under 30 taking pills very had. it is a fight every day cant even walk any more no cartilage in right knee but too young for knee replacement so i go get shots in knees every thing you can think of still not helping jump though sooo many hoops for them go to best doctors in country when had insurance but no relief. now too expensive and insurance wont pay pre-existing the system sucks and people who abuse these make it so hard for people in pain.
