Oxycodone Shortage Scam (Page 5) (Top voted first)

Guys, i hate to tell you this but its all bulls***>>> after 3 weeks trying to fill my Oxy 30, 140, i finally got to speak to my Pharm Manager who Ive used for 12 years. He told me straight up, that all the calls and people have hurt their regular business, so they decided to stop ordering Oxy in any amout to avoid the crap I was floored as all of a sudden he filled my script on the spot not 30 secs before they were all telling me they didnt have any. He told me last that would be the last one filled as hes not ordering anymore. I discussed with him about just oredering for me, as I'm legit and trying to follow the rules by using only one doctor and one pharmacy. He said he"ll consider it just for me. What a bunch S***!!! This from a guy Ive known for 12 years. It is a Walgreens, This is a conspiricy to avoid all of the drug seekers at our expense. They should go back to getting it off the street and leave us alone. How many more of us have to suffer? Im dag gone tired of being looked at as a druggy as I limp up to the counter. I spent 30 years as a cop on the job in New York, shot in the leg and arm for the citizens I swore to protect and now to be treated like the guys I put in the slammer? Im sure there are plenty of us on the blog. What the hell? Anybody know a good attorney? I guess I should start taking Morphine or Herion and sleep all day since I cant get the medication that works and this is America? Sound off you guys its the only way were going to be heard. God Bless you.

Gizmo,
I too am playing by the rules. I worked and raised a family. After 4 surgeries, where there appeared to be nerve injuries. (Appeared is so I won't sue) I was finally prescribed 3 80mgs and 4 30mg for break through pain. It is not at all unusual to build up a tolerance in 12 years. I didn't start off with the dose above! Then the state of TN went to war against the oxy abusers. I was taken down by 155mg daily in just the last 3 weeks. Just like you I have gone to the same pharmacy for years. Now they are saying they can only have their inventory of oxy's at any given time be no more than .5% for insurance purposes. And like you I went for my much smaller prescription only to be told by the Pharmacy Asst. they do longer carry oxy's. Ask to speak to the manager that has been there for me from the beginning. She had oxy's under lock and key knowing I would be coming in and filled them for me. The new bill to pass in TN this month will make it so I can get no more than 90mg from my pain specialist and even then I'm not sure where I can get them filled! My 80 mgs that are suppose to last 12 hours, last closer to 7.5= 15hrs+30 mg last 2 hrs+ 15mg last 1.5=18 1/2 hrs daily. I am already going into withdrawl symptoms because I can't cover 24hrs. I don't care if a few abusers choose to feel high, but the rest of us that need it to live normal lives shouldn't be punished for that. I have never missed an appt, taken more than I should, mixed it with anything else, Dr shopped or (this just started & makes me feel like a criminal) my pill count is correct and all UA samples come back as positive for drugs (so I am not making a dollar per mg.) As I was writing this the pharmacy called to tell me they could fill my prescription this month, but I may have to look elsewhere next month. I feel nervous relying on the mail system for my prescription. I was told I could only get 30 days not 90 by mail, is that true? I don't know what my insurance company wants me to do, there preferred pharmacy no longer carries oxy's. One thing I know is I could never go to 90 mg.I would be back where I started with a world no bigger than my bedroom!

I agree. I am a chronic pain sufferer as well and have been on pain meds for ten years or so now off and on. I must say that my tolerance has grown to depressing levels in all that time and now my brain/body requires more medication to be at all effective than my doctor has been willing to prescribe so far. He keeps telling me next month every time I ask. He says I am too young. Since when does age have anything to do with how much pain someone can be in. I'm about to undergo significant back surgery in a desperate attempt to gain some relief, that being said the doctor has absolute proof of my pain thru MRI results and he still tells me that the low dose of 20mg/day of methadone should be enough for the pain. To be closest to reality I would guesstimate at least 60-80mg/day would be more appropriate for effective reductions in pain. I have also been on other types of pain meds and would have to say that meds like oxycodone might be better at controlling the pain but I choose to stay with methadone as one can keep themselves feeling about the same thru an entire day instead of riding the up and down waves associated with shorter acting meds. I'm beginning to become irritated and frustrated with the situation now and therefore am unsure as to what I will do with my future. And people are right, I would love to be able to look my doctor in the eye and be 100% honest with him about everything relating to my health, pain medication use over the years, and how I know what I know, but this world doesn't seem to be too kind to the honest man. I am too worried about his reaction to what I would have to tell him than to let him know that I am in more pain than I want to deal with. I can tell him the pain meds are not effective enough but I cannot tell him how I know which dose would be effective because he then would immediately question my ability to properly take the medication as I haven't always had the luxury of receiving the right meds my body needs from a doctor or legit source. So therefore I am at a disadvantage for eternity and it's not any fun at all. In fact it is quite the opposite, torment and sufferable, patiently awaiting the day-year when he finally prescribes the proper dosage for my condition and also the proper dosage in which my brain is built for. As not all of our brains process and handle the same amount of meds as the next guy. Everyone's experience in life and their unique road thru life dictates how much of a medication can be tolerated or how much one must take for pain relief to be happening. You can give someone new to medications the same amount as me, say 30mg/day for arguments sake, who has the exact same back problems as me, or better yet probably even worse than mine, and because his body isn't used to having meds in them he is going to receive a much greater benefit from the same amount of medication than I would. Street addicts unfortunately have changed the world for the worse for those of us who truly need help. I often find myself feeling as if individuals are labeling me and judging me to be an addict because they simply do not understand the beast, are ignorant to the facts, and therefore look down upon me. When all I want is to feel somewhat comfortable in my own skin and try and build/maintain some kind of a decent life. It really is bulls***.

To the person who claims that 140 30mg. Is all a person needs is BS. In 1992 I had 3 back surgeries the last was a fusion with bone graft and pedicule bars and screws. This mow is encased in arthritis. In 2012 I was in a head on collision breaking both feet completely, shoulders, sternum, and all ribs, both collar bones. Try that on for size and pain. Dont pretend to know what othets need.

HEY DUDE...I take 8 IR Oxycodone 30 mg & 8 Methadone 10mg per day. I've been taking the Oxy's for 14 yrs. & the Methadone for 4 yrs. After a long period of time your system builds up a tolerance. At first, I was given 6 IR Oxycodone & 6 TR Oxycotin 80mg. per day. The time release didn't work for me cause I have less than 1/3 of my insides due to a medical issue. The medication doesn't have enough time to digest with the TR Oxycotin. I have blood work, heart examinations plus other health diagnostics done about every 10-12 mo. I've been included on several trial studies for pain. I've nearly tried everything out there for pain. Unless you're inside of someones body, you don't know how much pain there is. Everyone is different and everyone has a different pain tolerance. I wish you good health and hope you never have to be in my shoes; and most importantly I hope you never have to suffer from cancer. Take care DUDE

After reading some of the judgmental posts from morons who think they know it all and have NO IDEA what real pain is, I had to chime in. I am a 45 year old female with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, a severe and rare neuralgia that causes my arms, hands, legs, and feet to feel like they have been dipped in gasoline and lit on fire AROUND THE CLOCK, and on top of the severe burning feeling, it feels like those burning extremities are in a vice grip and being squeezed with all of someone's might. I also have over 100 arthritic spurs sticking into my spinal cord and pinching nerves from my neck to my tailbone. Don't tell me that I don't NEED the pain meds I am prescribed! After 7 years of being treated for pain, I am currently taking 30mg of Oxycodone every 4 hours and I am still in such agonizing pain that I can hardly bear it. I sleep no more than 90 minutes at a time because once my body actually relaxes, I wake up screaming at the top of my lungs in burning pain! I was prescribed 40mg of Oxytcontin 3 times a day with 15mg Oxycodone for BT pain but then my new insurance denied my prior authorization 4 times, causing me to have to be prescribed all Oxycodone. I have tried Morphine, Fentanyl, Methadone, Oxymorphone and Hydromorphone but had severe allergic reactions to ALL of them. The only thing I have been able to tolerate is Oxycontin and Oxycodone. I could be taking WAY more than I am but I choose to deal with a pain level of 7-10 on a constant basis because I know I will be on this medicine the rest of my life and I don't want to be where I have no where else to go so soon in my miserable life. I leave my house once a month to go to the doctor and I am 100% disabled and bed bound. I promise you this, if you had to feel the pain that I feel EVERY MINUTE OF MY LIFE for just 5 minutes, you would be looking for the nearest bridge to drive off or a loaded weapon to get relief! It is funny how KARMA seems to conduct itself. People like you will end up in the exact position of the one's you have unmercifully judged in your life. One day, karma will come back and bite you in the behind and something will happen to cause you to be in severe pain and need pain meds for relief. As you are standing there, script in hand, being denied a fill of your meds, you will think back to the time that you went on an online forum and made inappropriate and misinformed judgments about people you don't know from Adam's house cat. It will be at that moment that YOU EAT YOUR OWN WORDS!

The people in FL who are complaining about not being able to fill there oxy 30mg RX. HE is what im going to tell you. You first need to stop using a pain management doctor. And use a real family M.D. Because WALGREENS/CVS always have them they are just prejudice about who they fill for based on what doctor your using. Also.. its been hard to fill the last 2 years not because of a DEA shortage but because of these pharmacist not wanting to fill for PAIN MANAGEMENT clients.. Not saying its not possible.. But If you were to switch to a reputable family M.D. preferably one who doesent prescribe this to a lot of people. You wont have a problem. Also it helps if you have a 2 year + re-pore with your pharmacist. MY 2 cents sorry.

They are being robbed for this drug thats why they do not want to carry it.My Pharm told me the same thing iv'e been going to him for 8 years. He only had 60 30 mg oxycodone he had to order the rest. The G.O.V started this s*** saying to many people are dying taking oxycodone with Acetaminophen. So now you can only get 10-325 oxycodone and they flood the drug market with 30mg oxycodone.Teenagers are abusing this drug bad smoking them what my 19 year old son told me.10 of his friends are in jail from this drug. Thanks to big brother looking after use people that use it the right way can not get it.The G.O.V screwing up again !!!!!!

I totally agree with you. Every time I read about how people in pain are forced to suffer and practically beg for basic fundamental treatment of a medical condition called severe pain I am filled with compassion and fury at the same time. This is absolute mindless treatment of those who suffer. It seems that only those who have suffered with severe chronic pain understand and are willing to help--others care more about the hassle they get from DEA and AMA and pharmaceutical licensing authorities than they do for those who are truly incapacitated by the pain that is chronic. It's not nice, maybe, but I often tell them that they will be in our shoes one day. One day a truck will T-bone them, or maybe they will get a "mysterious" autoimmune disease, or cancer, and then some botched back surgery, and then they will understand the situation that the rest of us find ourselves in everyday. They too will feel the frustration and pain and if they think for one second that their "history" of being a health professional will get them better treatment, they are foolish beyond measure. Plenty of health professionals have written about how poorly they are treated because they are now a "patient" begging for compassion, drugs, treatment...I am not sure what we should do. You talk about buying off the street. I wish we could get our drugs off the international market, from India, complete with a prescription, like you can with other drugs. What's the harm with that and why in the world should that be illegal. They should give us awards for finding a better place for treatment and not putting any AMA doc or pharmacist at risk. That is what we should push for--the right to purchase drugs that we medically need from wherever we prefer--that should be a fundamental right to privacy and a right to freedom of expression. Big pharma, DEA, AMA et al. should not be in control of our personal freedoms and our right to live a life worth living-one free of severe chronic pain.

I hear you; I got my shoulder busted apart as a regular citizen breaking up an assault between some drunk and some poor guy who was just minding his own business. Yet the way the rules are changing it makes us out to be the bad guys. I take my scrips just to live as normal a life as I can with my 4 kids.

I also am as frustrated as you are. Since they raised hydrocodine up to a class 2 drug, to make it like it's a high bad pain medicine, I couldn't fill my presriptions for it. my doctor then wrote me Methadone to help me, and I found out that it is now almost impossible to get. I am guessing patients trying to not go threw bad withdrawals decided like me to use methadone to try and get off pain medicine and go threw life in bed, and suffering. But then I found out threw the same pharmacy i had been using for 2 years are having a hard time getting methadone to fill for there patient/cust. " I then tried publix, and cvs and couple of other's and there spill is, they already have as many patients they can take that use pain medicine. so sorry. good luck finding it". Wish we had a voice. I am about to hit serious withdrawal. Maybe if someone dies from not getting there medications, we will get a voice. for now it's the whinner's who's relative over dosed on it, so they want no one to have any. How about understanding that your addictive behavior which lead them to take crazy amounts and overdose is the fault of the addict. If it isn't a prescription drug they use, a addict will use what ever he can find to over dose with. Punishing Patients with legit needs should not have to be labeled as a druggy, and suffer for the rest of there life because of a addict who chooses to use prescription drugs in a large dose recreationally.

As former LAPD ALSO injured on the job and have a lifetime pension now getting pain meds from pharmaceutical s like KVK THAT CREATES MORE PAIN, I AM IN TOTAL AGREEMENT. Mallincrodt WORKS BUT I CAN RARELY FIND IT. I reside in Arkansas now where no pharmacy gives brand information via tekephone. So thanks America. Thanks Arkansas where everyone is treated as a drug addict even if you have a board certified pain management Doctor. I am disgusted and feel robbed of proper medical treatment.

I totally sympathize...just read this post. The govt., the CIA can protect all those poppies in middle east, can ship in drugs to feed to congress, the judicial...but keeps honest people who are in pain, in intense, chronic pain...from getting what they need. I am so anti-govt...so done with this cartel called govt...all connect to The Mob anyway...

I understand the feeling of everyone..if you chose a small pharmacy they will not give you the run around. I have spinal stenosis and M.D. so have to take pain meds is apart of my life. I deal with only on pharmacy and it is a little privately owned I my local town. They do not look at me as a drug addict and really work with me. I have been doing business with them now for 10 years. Hopefully you can find a small pharmacy and after they get to know you then you won't fèel so judge. Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

There is a HUGE difference between dependence and addiction. If you take oxycontin for legitimate pain as I do (only raising dose once in 8 years). You cannot become addicted. ..addicts need more and more for a fix.. true pain patients need it to maintain their pain from getting out of control...and are on a REGULATED DOSE!!!! BIG DIFFERENCE!!!! SHALL I also say that it was a DOCTOR that prescribed the medication in the first place...legally and legitimately!!! I am so tired of the ignorance of people making statements of oxycontin. I don't drink, take marijuana, or any illegal drugs EVER in my life (52 yrs) and yet some people want to rope me into the street users who abuse my type of medication, giving me a bad name and looked down upon. So wrong!!! Before medication I was curled up in a ball in bed in pain, wanting to die....until PRESCRIBED medication that was MADE for me (and others)...NOT the druggie on the street. It's been 3 weeks and I can't find a pharmacy to fill my script in Ca. I am in pain and feeling very angry that I cannot get my meds bc of people that are illegal. It's simply inhumane...especially when I go to the emergency room in pain and withdrawls soon since I cannot find someone to fill it. Walk in my (our) shoes and then judge.

I agree with the one lady..go to a small neighborhood pharmacy. ..but don't call ahead...take your script with you .Let them see your face..see that you are a pain patient not a street druggie. Here's the new law...you must have all your pharmacy prescriptions AT THE SAME PHARMACY THAT FILLS YOUR OTHER MEDS TOO....and then no problem filling it. after 3 weeks I did find a pharmacy fill it as long as all my meds are filled there...hope this helos!!

The pain you suffer from compression fractures is real. I had to walk bent over for three months no relief from pain. I came real close to ending my life ..Tears would shoot out my eyes from pain. The only reason I didn't end it were my kids but came real close several times then found pain management. Walk one day in my shoes (jerks) most couldn't. It caused me to fall a lot. I had no control over my left leg. You can't function at all in that much pain!!!
