Oxycodone In Southern California

My doctor prescribed Oxycodone 10 mg on the 21st of July; it's still not filled. I went to my regular pharmacy, Walgreens and I was told they don't have it, and should ask my doctor to prescribe something different. So now the pharmacist is a doctor? This medicine prescribed by him because it was the best solution to my retractable pain of my spine literally dissolving which is compressing my nerves. I have three blown discs in my cervical area and three blown discs, one with a 9 mm synovial cyst in it, in my lumbar area which is causing Levoscoliosis. I called every pharmacy within my area and not one could help me. I was rejected by all until I called Costco. My roommate took it over, and the tech told her she needed to have the doctor put the ICD - 9 code on it. She took it over to my doctor, he said that was a direct violation of HIPAA law, but went ahead and put not one, but two codes on it. She took it back to Cosco, and they said Oxycodone won't be in until tomorrow. WTH! I've done some research on the internet and found out the DEA and the FDA are messing with the pharmacies and the doctors about prescribing/filling pain medications. Now the DEA and the FDA are our doctors. Here's the clincher: The USA controls the major region in the world that grows opium that is made into H. If one who is going insane with pain can't get one's proper medication(s), the one might just go to the streets to find it. It's been known to happen, and I believe our government is promoting this to happen. Just my thoughts. When I go in for surgery, I'm going to have to make certain my after-care meds are all ready filled. Can you imagine not being able to fill your script after surgery. It's happened to others according to the different forums online. We all need to stand up, and push them back by calling our congressmen, etc. Also, if one searches, one will find many petitions to sign for this huge issue of non-compassion.

Hi Teri, How are you? Sorry to hear about the challenges you've been facing with trying to fill your prescription. I too think it is ridiculous for pharmacists to be telling patients what to take instead of your doctor having the final say... it's not like they even check all your medical records, diagnostics, or ailments before filling the script anyways. So surely something will have to be done sooner than later to put them in their rightful place as a pharmacist and not a doctor.

However, it is my understanding that doctors should be in direct contact with a pharmacy before even choosing to write a script for any particular medication. This way they know it can and will be filled when you go down there in person. I think the lack of communication between doctors and pharmacists alike are what creates more complications when a pharmacist is reluctant to fill a prescription for any reason.

But you're right, at this point in time, it may take more people contacting congressmen in order to get our voice heard and have action taken on behalf of all these legitimate patients who can't fill what their doctor writes (inevitably wasting both the doctor's time as well as the patient's money).

Thank you for being understanding about my incident. I've already experienced some judgmental attitudes from some of my so-called friends. It's so hard to have to be at this point of 'medication therapy' and the fact of life changes are so drastic it causes depression and anxiety. The lesion in my vertebral body of my lumbar region - the doctor doesn't know of its nature - hence it could be a tumor however hopefully it's benign. I had stated it was a synovial cyst however there hasn't been any test done yet, so that was a misdiagnose on his part. I found out a doctor can't tell what a lesion is just by looking at an Xray/MRI. I go this month for another MRI to see if it has changed, and I will insist a biopsy be ordered.

Yes we do need to stand up against this plight of attack from our own government, and we who are ill need strong advocates to assist us in this fight. It's an every day battle to stay upbeat about my situation. After all I'm still relatively young.

As for my doctor - he has done a poor job of treating my ailments due to being overbooked with patients because of the clinic he works at demands this of him. For him to contact the pharmacy ...not going to happen. One good note, I have been referred to 'Pain Management' to take over my medication therapy. If you pray, please say one for me concerning my lesion. I'm scared, and my doctor doesn't talk to me about it at all even when I try to engage him. Ugh... it's a huge mess.

Man, I'm having the exact same issues with the exact same prescriptions for nearly the exact same pains as u, my friend. I just spent the last 2 whole days, wasting almost $150 on "uber" amounts of Uber rides, filtering through all areas of Los Angeles County, just to be rejected by every single pharmacy I was SO SURE would fill it for me; even CVS whom I've going to for years. I mean, up until I stopped taking it just a month ago, I've been prescribed 90 legit (yes, NINETY!) 30mg Adderall IR every month for the last year straight! I almost never had a problem getting those filled- and having ADHD is no where near as excrutiating as having 4 herniated discs in ur neck, Degenerating Disc Disease, Compression in the lower lumbar, sciatica, Fibromyalgia, Myofascial Syndrome, aaaand chronic migraines COMBINED. Gimme a break....this has to be the most IGNORANT crackdown in the history of the United States of America, hands down. I'd love to see one of these clever congressmen or a DEA agent with chronic pains with chronic pains personally go thru these same frustrations same way we "little people" do.... then tell me they've done a good thing. 'Cause Im not much of a tv watcher, but how come lately everytime my ears happen to catch the news, Im learning more & more about an increase in H overdoses somewhere in the U.S.?? Its just rediculous, 'cause in a nutneshell really, our "big decision makers" our pushing people to the streets & its getting alot of people killed, and thats the bottom line. I, myself, admittingly was forced to turn to smoking 1/2 a gram of H every 3-4 days within a short 2 wk period, thank the Lord, until I put myself in a detox to prevent dependency; in which I was charted as NOT dependent by my doctor..... because he understood the method to my "madness," fortunately. But not everybody, in fact very few, will have a similar ending to such desperation. I only hope not so many have to die in order for the "big guys" to wake up & stop this mess.

BTW-. I just told my mother (who's an RN, of all professions) that I may need her to take me to multiple pharmacies before any of them will even agree to fill my Oxycontin PO, since I dont drive. Well, she just scolded me & firmly believes there's something "fishy" about my story. Go figure.

Hello TG Dawn. Apologies on the delayed response. I was trying to wait for a diagnoses of my conditions of my ailments before responding to your reply. I had a follow up MRI due to the lesion located in the L5 vertebral body of my spine. Apparently the MRI didn't pick up a lipoma of filum terminale, which literally means a fatty tumor that is associated with tethered spinal cord injury-induced spinal bifida. It causes all sorts of problems with compression, levoscoliosis, degeneration of the spine, hands and feet go numb and when they aren't numb; pain happens along with pain in my left hip, thigh, knee. I don't understand why this wasn't found on the first MRI. The lesion MAY be a hemotopoietic conversion meaning my marrow has been changed due to the cut off of blood supply, however it is not known what the diagnoses is until there's an biopsy is preformed. Of course there is severe arthritis going on as well. The muscle spams are uncontrollable, but I manage with ice packs/heat packs and limiting my activities. However I do walk, morning stretches, etc to try and keep active. My life has changed drastically. I've been rejected by my insurance company to get a lumbar block due to my abnormal MRI. My heart goes out to you for having to go to the extreme of using H. The way things are going with the DEA, I'm afraid we are going to find more people turning to it due to the rescheduling of Hydrocodone. An increase of crime in the means of stealing, or worse someone taking it out on the doctor or robbing the pharmacies and selling prescriptions on the streets and worse, suicides from retractable pain will happen. It's not even about an addiction, it's about the pain experienced by the damage to the person's body and not getting any help.

Now doctors can lose their license if they prescribe anything the DEA doesn't feel is necessary. The risk of treating their patients who has chronic, retractable pain due to documented ailments will literally put their livelihood on the line. This is horrible. Their creed of 'Do no harm' is no longer credible. My PCP has finally agreed to send me to a neurologist, however he was extremely hostile to me when I saw him yesterday. He flat out told me he would no longer be writing any more prescriptions for me. I didn't abuse any of my medications. I didn't become hostile with him at any time or call him names, etc. I believe he's under pressure by the DEA and the FDA to stop giving pain medications to his patients. He wasn't concerned that I would be going through any type of withdrawals when my medications stopped either. I feel like I have no where to turn to get help. If I say anything, I will be deemed a drug addict rather than a patient with retractable pain due to my dissolving spine. One thing I do have to look forward to - eventually I won't feel anything because I will be paralyzed by the compression. Heck I won't even feel anything when I urinate or defecate, which eventually I will lose control over that as well. The only thing I can think to do is write letters to the AMA, congressmen, senators, governors, etc. Perhaps others on this forum and in our country could do the same. Let's face it folks, when you can drink yourself to where your liver crawls out of your body, but can't get the proper medications for your ailments - we've got true problems. TG Dawn please stay away from the H. They win if you go there. I hope and pray you get help and have compassion from your doctor and your mother.

It's tragic that we are in the position of driving from pharmacy to pharmacy trying to get our legitimate scripts filled. We should not need to recite our ailments or justify our pain. That's nobody's business but yours and your physician. I thought Hippa covered all this. I read how sick people are on this site. I can tell they feel a sense of guilt for wanting relief. Don't do that to convince us you are telling the truth. We believe you and are very sorry you feel shamed for doing what your doctor has sent you to do - take pain meds. Yes, the docs need to communicate with the pharmacies. But we are given a paper script now and patients don't always go to the same pharmacist. Pharmacies won't take phone calls from patients for inventory calls which would save us the struggle of having to drive miles and miles in the hope that we find a pharmacy that has the medicine in stock. It's maddening. And they make you feel like a shameful junkie. Target began to running my name thru a DEA database to be sure I wasn't pharmacy hopping or filling too soon. There is a database that details our use of medication now. One Target pharmacy asked my doctor for a signed medical prognosis. She explained that doctors cannot prescribe narcotics indefinitely. A treatment plan must be in my file. My doctor dropped me as a patient after this happened. He referred me to another doctor. When Target saw that I was filling at various Target stores, they red flagged me even if it wasn't too soon. It appeared suspicious. I explained that each store has their own inventory supply and I have to drive from store to store. The reason I preferred Target was they carried the brand that I believe worked the best. Other pharmacies sell crap. There is a difference. But that appears suspicious too. I hate it. They react as if we have a choice. I suppose I can choose to live or not. I choose to live and ask the DEA to stay out of it.
