Oxycodone/percocet Generics! Which Are Most Effective? (Page 6)

Updated

Hello, First, let me start by saying that I am somewhat opiate naive. I am not in pain management and hopefully won't need to be. I've had scripts here and there for norco and percocet. It is the generic percocet, or more specifically the oxycodone, i'd like to discuss here. Over the past year i've had issues (such as a broken elbow, recurring kidney stones, and a staghorn lodged in my renal pelvis [kidney]), that have lead to several prescriptions for percocet from a total of 4 different manufacturers. Mallinckrodt 10/325, Amneal 7/325, Rhodes Pharmacy 10/325, and AuroBindo 10/325. I've read a lot of reviews about the aforementioned generic manufacturers. The majority of them have been negative especially for Rhodes. Mallinckrodt and AuroBindo are the only two that seem to have, at least, a couple of favourable reviews. I've got a new script for a week's supply of percocet 10/325. The primary pharmacy that I go to is Kroger (my local CVS carry Rhodes). Kroger carries the U17 Aurobindo which seem to help with pain but cause other issues; tinnitus, anxiety, drowsiness, agitation and at times nausea. Those are things I can deal with but I'd rather not. Does anyone have any input on what they find to be the best generic manufacturer of oxycodone? I've read about endocet, actavis, watson, kvk, and others but none of them seem to be readily available in my area. These are what i've tried in order from best to worst: 1. Mallinckrodt - good pain relief, seemingly no side effects, mild euphoria. (Unfortunately I cannot find Mallinckrodt anywhere around my area.) 2. (tie) Amneal/Aurobindo - Kind of a toss up between these two. They seem to work for the pain but have noticeable side effects. Auro (effects listed above) and Amneal both seem to cause anxiety/panic. Profuse sweating and itching have also been experienced with Amneal although not with Auro. 3. Rhodes Pharmaceuticals - I've read some horrible reviews for these. While I don't think they're as bad as some of the reviews, they were definitely very weak compared to the others i've tried. Sort of hit and miss though as one pill would make me feel high and another would make me feel sick (while not doing much for the pain). A plethora of side effects with these as well with malaise and dysphoria; the ultimate worst! Okay now that you've heard my subjective opinion and rant, can anyone out there offer their opinion on these generic oxycodone/percocet manufacturers. Are there any generic brands I'm missing or never heard of? What's the most effective for killing pain with the least side effects? (I'm taking them for pain). P.S. I'm going to have to fill at Kroger and get the Auro U17 regardless but would like to know for future reference. Thanks in advance! I'm in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.

Re: Opiate Madness (# 99) Expand Referenced Message

No we are not a country hooked on opiates. You have a bunch of people that were raised in single parent homes and even when both parents are in the home .... they are afraid to discipline their children because of all the govt interference .... so for the last 50 years or so being taught how to act & control your impulses have all but disappeared and it lead to today's society kids playing role playing games for hours on end killing & robbing & whatever else. They roll that behavior into real life and shoot up schools steal drugs & take them and basically do what they want when they want to whomever they want .... It is not a drug issue, it is a behavioral issue. There are way more responsible opioid takers out there over the age of 50 than those abusing and od'ing ..... most od issues are from street opiods and the govt gets on the airwaves saying heroin gives the same effect as opioid pain meds .... ironic this opiod epidemic wasn't an issue till the US gained control of most of the afgan poppy fields where the majority of the worlds heroin is made ..... so they cut off the pharmaceutical opioids made with safer ingredients and push true chronic pain sufferers to dangerous street drugs which may be coming from govt black CIA operations ...... look up CIA & drugs on prime and search mensa airport arkansas .... and arkansas teen train murders ...... but hey what do i know

I've been taking potassium citrate (Urocit-K). My stones aren't common, they're uric acid. The Urocit-K helps to balance the PH of my urine so that it's less acidic and more alkaline. This prevents the uric acid from building up to form stones. I also supplement with magnesium for other reason related to healthy brain chemistry/activity. Regardless I had a ESWL procedure and the issue has been resolved. Thanks though.

Dr. Tim (# 88) --

Having a handful of prescriptions for legitimate reasons over the period of a year is hardly chronic nor even nearly enough to build a tolerance. You're apparently not a doctor of any sort (not that your lackluster writing didn't give you away). It doesn't take someone with chronic pain to notice when medication is not effective and causing unpleasant side effects.

I am opiate naive in the sense that over my 40 years on this planet i've taken, in total, maybe a total of 2 months supply of opiates spaced out over years. I've never had more than a 7 day supply. I'm not in chronic pain. Your holistic approach is all nice and dandy for some pseudo-intellectual hypothesis. Simply asking a question on a medicine website does not equate to obsessing. What does some obsessive is the ignorance in your reply.

I'm talking about dealing with acute pain. I'm not trying to get into some protracted discussion with some judgmental blowhard (You, Tim) about intense pain brought on as a result of short term injury/complication. This type of, acute, pain cannot be controlled through an EEG (biofeedback) or by seeing a pain psychologist (what a pseudo-science). Thanks for your input but quite frankly it's just a waste of cyberspace; void of any substance much like that space in between your ears. ;)

I completely agree with you. As a former USAF 15WX attached to a small Army spec-ops unit in Afghanistan; I can tell you first hand that the security of those poppy fields are of utmost importance.

It is quite strange how heavily guarded those poppy fields are by our military. Since taking control of the majority of them pharmaceutical grade opiates have taken a mighty plunge in efficacy and a major jump in side effects. I hate to sound like the conspiracy theorist but let's not forget what our government has done in the past. MKULTRA comes to mind.

No worries. My stones, well the first two that I had 14 months apart were uric too. 500mg of magnesium a day, its been three and half years, no stones. I also stopped drinking tea every day. Drink it once a week. You'd be surprised at what natural "helps", not cures, there are for things doctors simply will never tell you. But, I hope you have a handle on it. If your blood, and other fluids are acidic, I would also recommend coral calcium supplements with at least 2 hours of sun on your face a day for the natural vitamin d. Blood becomes acidic because your body uses more calcium than it can absorb. Coral calcium is "pre-digested naturally" by the organism that make the coral......oh well, that's all the info that's applicable to your situation. Look into it you're the type that never settles for one avenue to success. Godspeed.

Re: DR TIM (# 96) Expand Referenced Message

Been there done that dr. Tim. Where do you get your 10% upgrade or increase stats from? I do agree with you on the pharmacy doc/police. But when it comes down to it, some of us need opiods for pain relief. I asked my p. m. doc to cut down on the amount & dosage of my meds. He was supprised. But explained to him that I see that big train of ' I can't prescribe any more' coming right at me. So trying to ease off now. It's been a b----ch the last month. Seriously thinking of leaving this earth early. Been taking that crap for 27 years now. Pretty hard to fool or fake injuries to docs over the years one would think! Can't believe that the ' powers that be ' are doing this to us. They have the opiod death stats wrong! Hang in there everyone!!

Re: Annie (# 103) Expand Referenced Message

Riteaid is not in Arizona! You can look for yourself and My Docs have written DAW [Dispense as written]! Why would the Pharmacist lie? Besides she has shown me the manufacturers Drug book herself. They can not order them in 10/325. It said they were discontinued.

I have Cigna Medicare Insurance which allows me to use their Pharmacy- WalMart, Osco [Albertson], Walgreen's, Safeway and some others so far ALL OF THOSE HAVE SAID THAT DOES IS DISCONTINUED BY THE MANUFACTURER.

Re: Cathy (# 92) Expand Referenced Message

My Dr switched me to Dilaudid [Hydromorphone] 4 mg 3 times a day and I will tell you and 15 mg Morphine Sulphate and OxyContin ER twice a day. I switched Pain Management Drs. These meds so far are so much better than Percocet. I know I am nearing my switch time soon phase but I am getting my 1st back injections with this office so might not be switching so quickly. And I don't think I will need to switch it up yet. He's doing Radio/frequency Ablation lumbosacral L3-all the way down. Both sides. I have had it done before. It hurts like hell and Gets worse before it gets better but it lasted about 7 months and I know it did something because when I wore off The pain was OFF the charts!! I had NO pain Management Dr and had left over meds fromwhen I went back east to my brother's Engagement party & then Wedding I was smart and put the pills away that I didn't use. We stayed at the same hotel- no driving, spoke to the Dr ahead of time signed waiver about Alcohol responsibility and narcotics.

No dose before any drinking and wait at least 3 hrs unless you STILL Feel the effects of the alcohol. He gave me a breathalyzer to take before meds. If DUI level before bed you skip dose and you must turn that one in. He has the serial # so you can not buy another one to take at a later date. I had one glass of wine at the Engagement party, had a Mimosa getting ready for the Wedding at the brunch and a glass of Champagne at the dinner making a toast to my brother. The Breathalyzer came back all clear... Actually was a good thing that I had some pills left over half here and there -eventhough my pain was excruitating and verging on 9.5 with tears in my eyes and crying myself to sleep EVERY night till I got another pain management Dr again. With a regular schedule which in AZ is not easy on NOT EVERY DR WILL GIVE OPIOIDS!! Not a PCP, my Rheumatologist used to give me those meds in the past about 5 years ago w/ a narcotic agreement. I was always on. Thanks to the NEW RULES!! Nope!! I can not afford the copay to run to the ER- every time because you know they give a limited amount of pills. Besides, who wants to look like a "drug seeker" or feel like a criminal?? Bad enough my first experience with pain management that IS how you feel. First time you go.. it really was not a pleasant experience. However, I found a great Doctor and he is on the Top Doc List 3 years in a row!

Re: Roro (# 102) Expand Referenced Message

I know I need Opioids to function and I can't without it. I do believe that everyone should be on an Opioid Agreement and randomly tested. If you are out driving a car and expect to NOT take additional responsibility by being on these medications which BTW- do state No driving while using. The least you can do is go by proper channels and get the medication by DR's who really know these meds. What I do NOT like ARE the changes that they're making.... YES IF YOU READ THE ARTICLE THE PROBLEM IS A COMBINATION OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS WITH SUBSTANCE DRUGS EX... HEROIN...

I am not talking about example---- I take 5-10 mg Diazepam [Valium] at bedtime. It used to be 5mg twice a day and 10 mg at bedtime because I have Anxiety/Depression with a Resting Heartbeat of 115 beats/ minute. [Now imagine how much higher my heartrate will go up once I go off Diazepam completely ... my Dr has been telling me I have to wean off this. I have tried taking none and I use my rescue inhaler which until now. I only used 3 times in 14 years. Everytime I do not take my Pill I need my inhaler. I seem to induce anxiety asthma attack? That can not be good.

I did stop taking Ambien CR because of Sleepwalking a couple years ago which BTW- saved my life. I had a fall. Had a MRI of my C-Spine and they found a suspicious lump. So they sent me to go see me to an ENT Found I had Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Unfortunately, the lump can't be removed, biopsied, only scoped every watched. Lingual tonsils are tricky. They control the tongue, esp. The nerves of the tongue. 6 weeks of feeding tubes and more risks. The ENT said unless it completely closes off my breathing. It is something to live with. They switched me to Belsomra and worked like a charm. Hard to fall asleep initially with a LOUD CPAP thing on your face and a fear that I will be strangled by the hose. Oh, and with allergies you can't use it. So, everytime I fall asleep I wake myself UP afraid I WILL stop breathing. So try falling asleep with NO Belsomra or Diazepam. This is the New Rule... no Opioids with Hypnotic sleep medication or Benzodiazepines. Even though, I am on such a low dose.

The problem that is really going on....... they are making it harder for people to get their medication. When my Dr left my insurance and for those months.... if I was desperate and well really desperate and what the article is talking about... people turn to street drugs on top of it... HEROIN.

The Gov't and DEA isn't thinking here and This is what I think people are going to get desperate... Personally, I wish they would stop fighting and just legalize Marijuana across the US. It has been proven to do a lot already. The other option IS CBD oil. So many emails for those trials.

Well, the DEA & Gov't believe WE are in an Opioid Epidemic... I came across this and figured I would copy & paste it. I agree with this!!

Think of all the famous ppl that died from prescriptions alone- Brittany Murphy, Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith, Michael Jackson. [Propofol -ok- never should have been given. Conrad Murray administered it to him and then left him to make a phone call? Seriously? He's already out of jail! I just hope he never practices again!! He should still be in jail!] Prince [Fentanyl - not the RX strength the man weighed under 100 pounds] Ok- This is serious stuff! He was soo against drugs until he busted his knee, Keith Moon [The Drummer - The Who] and I will not include the suicides.

Re: David (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Hi David, I’ve had chronic pain for about 18 yrs, I’ve tried just about everything because my tolerance went up and they stopped working. A couple things they did (Pain Management), I took, what they called a “Vacation” from them. This was to lower my tolerance back down. I think they gave me Suboxone while I was off of them. Another was getting back injections, they don’t just work for your back, but other parts of your body. Just be careful about the steroids, I ended up with a cataract in my left eye. But, mainly I would try to go off of them for awhile yoblower my tolerance, this was very difficult. But, the last one I am in the middle of, they’re doing a “Spinal Cord Stimulater.” This is a surgery procedure where they attached wires to your nerves in your spine and it blocks the pain before your receptors get them and tell you your in pain. Ask your doctor if this would be an option to help, it’ll take you off the pills, which after awhile will do damage to you internally. I hope this helps, I was approved for the trial to make sure it works! I don’t want to have the surgery and realize it doesn’t work. Good Luck and try and look forward with a positive attitude, it helps a lot!!

"It is not a drug issue, it is a behavioral issue." You centered on the real problem. Without that, nothing can be solved or prevented. I know the pharmaceutical business is for profits. If normal people just prevented the cause (easily done for most circumstances) they would be out of business.

Big Red Baloon, you still out there? Has the world gone mad or is it the NEWS MEDIA? The fake news media is the blame for all of the madness in the world!!! A few POP singers die from a mixture of drug, they not only had the money to buy any drug off the street, they had the money to buy DOCTORS. Their deaths were on ALL the news networks for months and none of them told the truth of what drugs they died from until a year later (illegal drug) and a mixture of them with alcohol. The fake news caused the OPIOID crisis with stories like LITTLE JACK and JILL climbing up to maw and paws medicine cabinet and got their opioid and became addicts and the VA is handing out opioids like candy and they are making their way on the street. Vets can't get pain meds anymore. Now they have caused another problem - school shootings by their coverage and the attention they give to the shooters. Will the government do away with school or will they go after the real problem to make schools safe? The government can't stop illegal drugs so they go after prescription drugs and doctors that write them, hell they are easy to find. The DEA is not smart enough to catch drug dealers so the DEA and the fake f***** news blame it all on prescription opioids. Drain the swamp and stuff a dirty sock in the fake news media's big f***** mouth and the world will be a better place. Come to think of it, the world started going downhill when CNN started 24/7 coverage. Now they all do it and that's how FAKE news started. Give me a shout back Big Red Baloon.

Re: Mason (# 105) Expand Referenced Message

I completely agree with you so I must agree with Roro. It's naive to think that some in our government aren't profiting from all sides. Manipulating the market when it suits, being a provider of drugs not so legally crossing our border and controlling the manufacture and distribution of prescription drugs. There are too many instances that we've been lied to by the people we've trusted when we voted.
This was all put in motion before the last Presidential and Congressional election. We've got another coming up in November. Take time to get to know your candidates. It's likely that if you hear it or read it in the media it's untrue. We have to contact by mail and phone most assuredly the people who want your vote, also the agencies involved. Keep updating them on your condition so that you become a real person to them. Firm but kind gets their attention. Someone else had an idea to help get doctors and our other health care providers on board by showing them this site. Her doctor goes to DC on chronic pain patient's behalf. If we could organize a rally in DC before the Congress recesses in Aug or Sept, wheel chairs, walkers, canes or 2 able legs it would be great.

Re: ISE (# 91) Expand Referenced Message

If you take the 10mg pure oxy and take a small amount of tylenol it helps the pain a little better than on it's own. Recommended by an ER RN who happens to be a friend and in chronic pain. She said it makes her gag seeing the amount of pain medication that gets trashed (wasted they call) because the doctors have to start with a low dose and that's less than a vial in 99% of the cases.

KVK absolutely useless. After several failed back surgeries and chronic pain for the last 18 years, the last 8 debilitating today I went to a Frys (Kroger) pharmacy and received KVK oxycodone 15 mgs and they don't work. I had to switch Pharmacies due to Walmarts change in filling rules in AZ. At least at Walmart for the last 2 years I always received RHO and they worked great! Now to find another pharmacy.....
