Oxycodone Itching
UpdatedI used to take half an Oxycodone 5/500 as needed for cervical for neck pain and it worked fine. Last night I took a whole dose for the first time because of sever stomach pain from vomiting all day. I may have eaten something bad the day before but there was nothing more in my stomach and the pain kept me awake (but I was exhausted from the ordeal). My refill is Endocet 5-325. I guess I had an allergic reaction because my feet started burning in the middle of the night and I was going insane. I iced them in a pan of cold water and ice for as long as I could (30 seconds in/30 seconds out) until I finally felt numb and fell asleep. Woke up late afternoon to the burning itch in my feet - worse than before - and burning, itching palms as well. It was too late to go to my doctor or urgent care so I ran out and got some Benadryl and cortisone cream from the drug store. 2 hours no relief! If I can get a little sleep tonight I will go to urgent care in the morning. It's lasted so long after I took a relatively low dose of Endocet! Alergic reaction or...? No diabetes, on statins, the only allergy I have is to sulfa drugs. The pain/itch is MADDENING. What to do???????????

Dear It's Always Something, how long have u been on the Oxy? If u have been taking it 4 a little while at least now. Then it shouldn't b an allergic reaction. Have u ever taken a whole 1 b 4? Did u take anything different or eat something different? Just trying 2 figure out what could of caused that. I know one of the side effects of Oxy is being itchy. (Not everyone) I would call the Dr. Or pharmacist and ask them. A nurse and trying. 2 help u with advise. Let me know how make out .
I had never taken a whole oxy since I got them three weeks ago, and had only taken 6 halves in my life. But I think what I did wrong in this case is, since I had taken a whole one and (pardon the grossness) had seen it come back up whole, I cut the second whole one into 6 smaller pieces so they would absorb quicker and I'd have less of a possibility of throwing them all up. I vomited no more but the smaller pieces must have overwhelmed my VERY sensitive system.
Today I'm fine. I called a friend last night to cry and complain that the Benadryl and cortisone cream weren't working fast enough and my feet were killing me. She said to relax, have a glass of wine, and put 4 pair of socks on so it would be harder to get to my soles and I'd stop rubbing them. I don't know if that is for everybody, but it calmed me down, gave my tender foot skin a rest, and I slept through the night.
It was actually very dangerous for you to have that glass of wine, after taking the medication. Both alcohol and Oxycodone can cause depression of the central nervous system, so combining the two may cause dangerously lowered blood pressure and heart rate, accompanied with shallow breathing. Such a condition could be fatal.
Additionally, the Acetaminophen in this is very rough on your liver and so is the alcohol, so they shouldn't be combined, either.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Please refrain from combining them in the future.
As to the itching, it can be a side effect that some narcotics cause in some people that take them. Have you contacted your doctor? They may be able to prescribe something else, or suggest a way to mitigate the itching in the future.
Oh my, Oxyctin is not immediate it's designed for long pain relief. My guess s cutting them up caused an OD reaction. I have a young man I know that took time release Tyrol due to a tooth that went bad when dentist wasn't open. They were time released. When they didn't work he'd take 2 more. Then "bam" they took effect and he never woke up again. Careful with the time release.
