It is So amazing how complete strangers can change your life and help you when people you see everyday feel bothered when you ask them for help or just a word of comfort. You all have given me plenty of advice. Helpful advice to be exact. The response i was expecting to get was the one I have been getting the last 4 years, that its not possible and pain meds can't cause pain. But you all didn't judge me or my illness and you gave me some amazing advice. I can't wait to try it out and let you
Know how right you guys were. And yes i do have iron overload ago i have to be very careful. Cause the one thing like iron that can save me is also something that can slowly kill me. Pray for Me, my new friends and i will do the same.

Hello,

I'm so sorry to hear about all the pain you're dealing with. Pain meds definitely don't work for everyone, I'm sure you probably aren't the only one going through this. The only advice I can offer is to try some more natural alternatives. Fruits and vegetables are anti inflammatory and could very likely help with your pain if you add them into your diet on a very regular basis. I also know from previous experience that acupuncture does help with pain, there are studies that prove its accuracy. Essential oils would be another thing to try, I'll post a link to a page that offers info about different oils for pain.

experience-essential-oils.com/essential-oils-for-pain.html

I'd love to hear back from you if you try any of these methods or benefit from them in any way, good luck to you and I hope this info helps!

It sounds like your body is building more of a tolerance to the Roxicodone, resulting in insufficient pain relief or more intense feelings of needing something stronger.

If I could suggest anything that may be of help, it would be to consider a more natural approach for not only handling the pain, but also your mental & emotional response to pain and how it affects your everyday life. For additional relief, I'd look into Kava Root (also known as Kava Kava) as well as being open to Medical Marijuana if your state permits it.

Many people with sickle cell anemia may also benefit from certain vitamin and mineral supplements, including omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, folate, riboflavin and vitamins A, B6, B12, C and D. Sometimes, Vitamin K is recommended before surgery to prevent prolonged bleeding. However, always clear any vitamin, mineral, herbal or other supplement with your doctor first. For example, iron supplementation might harm some people with sickle cell anemia, as it could lead to or worsen iron overload, an excess in blood iron levels that can cause serious tissue damage, especially if you have had blood transfusions or artificial nutrition that contains iron.

If I were in your shoes, I'd also start eating or juicing an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables daily to help heal and detox your body from the inside out.

Linked below are some other natural options to consider:

Hope this helps!

I've read your post and it seems to me that you are not being diagnosed and treated. Are you seeing a specialist? and have you been referred to a pain clinic? This might not sound like an easy thing to do but if I were you the next time you have an appointment, insist on being referred to a doctor that works with patients who have similar complaints. If you are not referred tell him/her that you are going to consult a lawyer.

Be firm, you have suffered enough, search Google or any other site until you find help..

Please get in touch with me. I felt like I just wrote this myself. I even had to ask myself did I write it. You are preaching my exact life. I mean to a T. I'm in Nashville TN and I'm 32. People think I'm crazy when I say this exact thing. My doc says to just stop taking it but won't write me anything to substitute it. So it's like I'm f****d. Please write me. We have got to put our heads together. My name is Kandyce.

I've heard of ppl getting "rebound pain" in your situation. You have to go to a really good pain-management doctor.

Sometimes all you need is a slightly diff drug (hit up a diff bunch of receptors).

You may have to keep changing not the dose - but the type of you drug every so often.

Sometimes we gotta settle for the best we can get - but it won't work forever.

A long time ago I had the unfortunate experience to watch my brother try to withdraw from opiates... in my bathtub! I came in when things quieted down, so I peeked in to see him savagely biting his own hand! Blood & all. I said "What are you Doing?!"..

He told me "getting over it" - by creating a "different kind of pain"...

Old timers had taught him that trick..

Most ppl can hold their own with acute pain.. But Chronic - its worse than torture! Searing pain but not enough to make you unconcious... You wanna take a bullet to the brain, its so relentless!

Given NO answer at all - his brain came up with its own solution. He'd rather be: eaten by wolves; hit by lightning; run over, etc. than endure 1 more second of that same pain that's like your evil twin.

Sometimes a different type or place of the pain (although it doesn't feel good) - well, at least you stopped thinking about that other pain for a while...

Of course, I'm not advocating this unless your head is in a jailhouse toilet - but don't but that's what a good pain mgmt doc is for.. Keep switching it around so you can knock that "+" off that 10; darling..

And if you don't like them a - keep looking til you find someone who'll listen to you & manage - Your Pain - nobody else's; no "I don't knows"; no baloney - you need a doc who respects YOU. Who tries to get in your shoes.

Cos you sound so miserable - you need a professional good at his job.. And keep it up til you are cared for properly!

Stay strong, hon.
Blessed Be

You definitely are not the only one I am suffering from Lumbar Spine Stenosis and am currently on Oxy 10mg 4x a day. So trust me when I say that it is very true and NO I am not addicted to my pain meds. So to be quite honest with you I feel like I am much better off not taking them because it causes me so much more pain while having to take care of my twin toddlers. I am so sorry to hear just how much worse your pain is than mine but I do understand how bad back pain can be. I wish there was something I could say to make your pain easier, I would definitely talk to my Dr about this I will be calling mine 1st thing in the morning. I was better off today before I took my meds because I got a quick knife stab in my right hip that's how it felt and now I am laying down and my pain is so much worse after have taken my med. I hope you fin a solution very soon Good luck

I have been on some type of pain killer for the past 20 years. Started with tramadol and went up to 20 mg Oxycodone 5x a day. I did have laminectomy surgery which has improved mobility standing and walking which I was almost wheel chair bound prior. For the past 4 months I have run out of my Oxy up to 10 days early and again this month 7 days early. My tolerance level to most meds are through the roof so they usually work really good for the first week because I stopped taking them for a few days. What I have clearly noticed is that by week 3 my meds seem to make my back worse and I take more cuz I hurt like s***. 2 days ago I ran out of Oxy and my pain levels went from a level 7-8 to a current 2. I am still taking low dose Hydro 7.5mg 5x a day and tramadol 3x a day. I noticed this for the first time last month and told my girl yesterday that I bet my back is way better 30 hours after my last Oxy and it is. This doesn't make any sense to me but for what ever reason it is. Has nothing to do with level of activity while on meds because I have been tracking any and all correlations. I know the obvious solution is to get off meds which I think I could do with success. It's just scary because I have depended on meds for the past 20 years. I just wanted to share my experience. Before my surgery if I ran out of meds I was bed ridden and now I know it's mostly mental and Oxy is only helping for about 10 days and then starts to literally make me worse. Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear your reaction to oxycodone. It seems to be the only thing that is helping me get through each day. I have to suffer my lower back tu orpain until i get shceduled for radiation treatment to recede or if possible dissolve the tumor. Before ocxycodone, i cried all day and all night and was losing sleep. My pain was badly managed by the past doctor.

If oxycodone diesn'work for you, try fentanyl. Many people respond to that. You can talk to your doctor about it.

Okay first of all. I want to say that I am truly sorry and very compassionate towards your pain. I do not have cancer but I do personally have chronic pain. You mentioned that the meds are hurting your lower back? Did you ever get diagnosed with Lumbago? Just asking because I recently switched from Opana to Morphine from Morphine to Oxycodone. I was forced to get off of the Opana that worked so well for me. Now the oxy I have noticed some major lower back pain. I just got a nerve block on my left side Lower back and I swear before the med switch I had some relief. Now after reading your post I am also wondering if the oxy isn't making mine hurt as well. Listen, you have cancer, you're in pain and even though they are busting down on Opana and blaming this ONE drug for all the deaths I wonder if in your case you can be allowed to try it. I say this because it was a blessing for me. I had a quality of life and no nothing will take my pain down to a zero, however it helped me tremendously and it's a shame they pulled it. Morphine made me so sick. I lost 10 pounds because I was soooo sick and I demanded to get off that drug. The insurance loves Morphine. It's cheap and they love covering it. In my case my insurance knew that I had no choice to say goodbye to my life for they pulled the ONLY drug off the market that worked. My suggestion to you is try and tell your doctor what's going on. Switch meds. If the doc says they won't cover it then call your insurance and tell them you're in pain. One more thing. Do not worry about the ER doctors; if you need IV meds well then you go and get them. They can think whatever the hell they want for they do not know your specific pain. Best wishes to you. I hope you have success in pain control and find the help you deserve.

I am sad to hear about your counter-reaction to your pain medication, but I am also relieved to discover I am not alone. You are right, the pain I get from hydrocodone is worse than any pain I have ever experienced. I've delivered a 12 pound baby without medication. . . it was not as bad as the pain I get with hydrocodone. I have found no way to relieve it once it begins, but a few things help just a bit. The most helpful therapy is when I use my Walmart-bought electro-therapy device. I place the adhesive pads right over the pained area and put it at full strength for 15 minutes. There is marked temporary relief. I have reduced the dose of my hydrocodone from 20mg twice a day, to 5 mg twice a day, only when needed. I try not to use it when I am having an easy day at home. I take regular Tylenol every four hours now, which helps more than you might think. I never take more than the maximum dose on the bottle. I use the store brand (acetaminophen.) I have found that when this pain comes, it is worse if I wear anything around my waist such as elastic waisted pants or skirt, a belt, or tight fitting clothes. This pain almost seems like an alergic reaction to opiates. Once the pain comes, it stays until I go at least two days without any pain med other than acetaminiphen. Never, never, never take a higher dose than prescribed, and in fact, take the lowest dose you can, even if it leaves you with a fair amount of pain, because pain from a lower dose is no where as bad as pain from that high dose.

Re: DJS (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

Hi, I had the same problem when I was taking Hydro's.. I felt good enough to work, but once I started working (framing houses) my back would feel as though it was locking up.. Zero fun.. I was eventually switched to Percocet 10-325 and it controlled the pain without making it worse like the hydrocodone.. I'm currently on 15 mg x 4 oxycodone without APAP and Gabapentin 300 mg x 6 and I feel pretty good without the back issues that I had.. I hope you get some relief soon..
