@joe what were u on before? If they try to put u on something you have been prescribed before that didn't work tell them that and what side effects it gave u. I think by law they have to start u on a non-narcotic to save there ass but it seems with your injures u shouldn't have a prob. Good luck!

I live in Ohio. My doctor wants to send me to a pain specialist. I broke my back, and have narrowing in my neck. He told me they wont take me here because I dont have insurance. I didnt have a problem paying him, or for my medications. He actually told me to go to Kentucky. Because our governor is not allowing them to write pain med scripts anymore. I did write to the governor today, he has health insurance because I help pay for it. So Im willing to travel if I know someone would be willing to accept me as a patient. I dont take heavy narcotics. Tramodol, and norco. Can anyone refer me to someone that would be close to Ohio. I have my MRIs, etc. I was at the ER a couple weeks ago and they treat you like your a drug addict. Im 53 years old...single, and have to be able to work everyday. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have an appt with the clinic in Richmond Tuesday. She told me up front that they will not write scripts for 30s. Fortunately I take something else that works just as good and is cheap and easy to get.

My old doctor prescribed me 5mg Percocet 4xdaily, then my next doctor 7.5s 4xdaily...these are barely even helping and are killing my liver, kidneys and make me nauseous all the time...I need the smaller more potent ones. How do I get them without seeming unlegit? My MRI says it all but nobody will help me!?

@joe unfortunately you have to try what they give u and when u come back the next month tell them it doesn't help and u have bad side effects. Look up the med online to see what they r. Or if he ask you have u tried this med and u have tell him didn't work. Eventually they will have to put u on something that works with not alot of side effects. That would be the only way that I can think of to not look like a seeker. Good luck! Hope this helps!

I have severe neck and lower back due to being hit by a truck. I live near Rhinelander, WI and was told that the doctors up here don't prescribe any narcotics for pain. The junk they prescribe now doesn't do anything except upset my stomach and don't even dull the pain. Does anyone know a doctor in northern WI who isn't afraid to prescribe oxycodone for severe back and neck pain? thanks!!!

I am appalled that you work in the medical field and are so ANGRY and JADED. It is possible that everyone will get some degree of DDD, however, how many will get it at 30 years of age? It isn't the DDD that causes the pain,it's the nerve compression and nerve damage from the herniated disks, and the spinal canal stenosis in the lumbar region that causes the excruciating pain. I have experienced horrible pain from this for twenty years, and tried every possible treatment, including two rounds of treatment by two different pain clinics (nerve blocks, multiple rhyzotomies, etc.), chiropractic, accupuncture, even spent a week with Mayo Clinic's version of TV's Dr. House, and was told that there was no treatment that would relieve my pain. So, after over ten years of seeking other treatments, I turned to my family doctor, who was more than happy to write MS Contin and Oxycodone (for breakthrough pain). I finally got my life back! Couldn't work, but was no longer in agony and could get out of bed. Unfortunately due to new KY legislation, after over ten years of writing these meds for me, my doctor will no longer write pain meds for chronic pain patients. Because of the legislation, he can't afford the additional staff he would have to hire to comply with the new legal requirements, nor does he have the extra time to satisfy the requirement that a complete physical, treatment plan and progress notes be performed/completed each time he sees the patient (every two months). My condition will not improve - so why should he have to do these things? He shouldn't, but that is what the law in Kentucky now requires.

So, you are completely wrong when you say that anyone with a legitimate pain problem can get these meds from their local family physician. The DEA and KY AG's office have so intimidated the physicians in Kentucky, that they are terrified of treating even legirt patients. Why should they risk losing their license to practice and risk imprisonment thanks to an overzealous legislature? Many of the people you are calling "addicts" (not atticts) are not addicts at all. They are seeking legitimate treatment for their real pain, and because of the nature of the meds they have been on, they are physically dependent. There is a huge difference.

Exactly what part of the "medical field" are you in? The hospital cafeteria? Educate yourself before you speak again in such a heartless, discompassionate way to the people posting here!

I commend you for getting your drug problem under control. I believe, though, that your pain problem was not severe that you couldn't even take a couple of steps without collapsing on the floor from the excruciating pain. There are those of us whose lives have been saved by doctors who are not afraid to adequately treat pain. It is very obvious that you were indeed an addict, as you mention running out early, the planning, lying, etc. This is the behavior of an addict. I have been on the same dose of the same meds for over ten years. I haven't gotten a "high" from them for many years, but do get adequate relief for my pain - pain for which there is a well-documented need and for which all other treatments have failed. I would love to not need these meds. I would give anything to have a tolerable level of pain. But I don't and I resorted to meds as a last resort. And it did save my life, just as your life was saved when you dealt with your abuse of prescription pain meds. Those of us who have a legitimate need for these medications are not weak, nor are we unable to deal with "a few aches and pains". What I wouldn't give for just a few aches and pains. Those of us on here looking for help are dealing with the kind of pain that would cause you to pass out. If you want to know, take a crow bar and jab it into your lower spine and start prying your vertabrae apart. AND DON'T STOP. Do that for a few years and then you may have some idea of what a true chronic pain patient is going through.

Again, congrats on having the strength to kick your habit. I'm sure it was very difficult. In August when I go see my new doctor, I will find out if I will have to go through the same thing and then deal with my pain on top of that thanks to the legislators and governor in Kentucky.

I'm not sure who you were replying to but I want to commend you on your response, I'm in a very similar situation myself, I tried EVERYTHING before finally accepting pain meds, like you I live in Kentucky, I'm terrified of what will happen at my next appointment with my pain doctor, I have also been On the same meds for years, since 04, to be exact, I've no desire to "move up" as long as I am getting enough relief so that I can function, hoping and praying that they don't have to change anything because of the new laws here in Kentucky. I hope you are able to remain on what helps you as well, it's a shame that those of us who actually need pain meds are going to have to suffer because of the ones who simply want to get high. God bless
