Hello chris, your post was 492.I saw your message on a message board looking for a pain dr. I was stationed in Afghanistan and our missions were to clear ieds. Well long story short we were clearing the area with our ground penetrating devices and everything seemed clear and as we moved on we must of missed one and one blew under our rig. All of us survived thankfully but not all of escaped with all of our limbs. I lost one of my legs And severely burned. I've been through rehab and getting back to normal life I recently moved back to northern va but the medicine for pAin that I received for pain does nothing so I found a great dr that I've Ben going to over a year. Unfortunately he just notified us that he will be moving to another state and opening a new practice and his practice here will be staying open and a new dr will be taken over but they will not be treating people for pain. So I have 30 days to figure something out and I'm very scared of not finding a place because before I found this place I was in so much pain pretty much doing anything but worst was trying to walk in since I've been seeing this dr I can walk with very little pain as well as being able to do lots of things I wasn't able to do. I usually don't try websites or ever email anyone from these just because of my military status. I noticed you had just moved to va About 6 months ago and was hoping things worked out for you and maybe you could provide a couple options. I'm sorry for the pain you have it makes life very difficult to even try to get to that line that's right below normal let alone breaking even at that line when before we had pain that line was just a bad day and to live that permanently is very difficult as you know. Again I'm sorry for whatever you have been through and I do a have a couple others that if you needed as a back up I could give you but unfortunately they don't take my insurance. Thanks for listening and any place you could recommend I would be greatfull. The closer to nova would be great but even md,DC or further parts of va would be fine its just harder getting around with some of my challenges. Again thank you very much and sorry for such a long email . Robert T PFC

Member TN 1st Judicial District Drug Task Force!
Why should we stay in KY? KY Doctors have been referring their pt's to hospitals & doctors in TN for years for all kinds of medical treatment. But now when it comes to pain control we are expected to stay in KY. In other words are money is good to pour into TN economy for everything else but pain control. I agree a lot of people who post on this site are junkies and DO NOT NEED PAIN CONTROL! That is my point I have been trying to get across when I refer to true pain patients.

Can anyone with knowledge or experience look at my recent posts to see if they can kind of let me know in average person terms what all the conditions mean in general other than the degenerative disk disease I know what that much means at least. MY PM orientation appointment with the PM office on Pasadena in Lex is Monday, I have not heard much about personal experiences with that location, other than personal privacy is now out the window and I better have my panic meds on hand if I am going to be surrounded, speaking, with a group of strangers. With my panic disorder the waiting room is hell enough and I don't even have to interact with or in front of any of them so I am panicking just at the thought of Monday lol. I am just trying to figure out more than anything what these diagnoses mean in layman's terms so I am a little more knowledgeable. After my MRI this past Friday and a not so ok follow up with the Neurosurgeon I will be requesting a second opinion referral from my PCP this Friday afternoon. He had all my history of MRI's, interpreted on paper as well as the scans on disks and it was just as if "oh, I'm not seeing this or that or yada yada on this new one, but I do see this and this, like the near severed nerve something regarding L5 nerve root I mentioned in a previous post, I guess that magically disappeared but has been visible and interpreted in SEVERAL lumbar MRI's since 2010. Just odd and idk not a comfortable or trusting fit either, other than tell me you should be on something much, much stronger than maximum allowed percocet daily. Anywho responses to my posts would be great. I have to pick up the latest MRI report Friday and my RX history for the PM office that they require. Only problem is I have only been in KY since April so I do not have a years worth of RX history to give them and cannot access old pharmacy in Northern Ohio because I would have to go in to get RX records so hope this will be enough for them.

Howard!!!!!!!! I can help you with what is going on if you post your MRI results. ( I am not going search for your past postings) As far as a heads up on the clinic I never been there.
Your MRI reports will differ depending on who is reading them, the quality of the MRI, if you had stools in your bowel, etc.

SBIERR here is my original post with just a few of the things I know I have been diagnosed with as well as some of the things MRI reports stated..
I am looking for info on the Pain center located on Pasadena in Lex, good and bad experience. My neurosurgeon from UK is referring me to their center for PM. I have a 2+ hour evaluation appt apparently before being sent to the medication management side. I have Fibromyalgia, DDD, Level 3 Cervical Fusion in January, in Ohio, WORST experience ever, discharged 19 hours post op and surgery has been deemed a failure. Nerve root damage in lumbar, fractures @ L3 and L2. Repeated MRI's on cervical and lumbar only. Thoracic CT scan states nonspecific ill-defined slerotic lesion involving left aspect of T1 vertabral body, which I have no clue what that means. Spinal canal Stenosis in thoracic and cervical spine in multiple levels. Bone spurs never removed, diffusely bulging disks throughout lumbar. narrowing due to bulging disk and spurring contacting the left L5 nerve root, degenerative endplate changes, neural foraminal narrowing, annual fissures and disc protrusion, fluid at facet joints. Bulging disk @ T10/T11 contacting the ventral spinal cord. Think that about covers it, sorry my AOL messes up as I try to type in anything so I'm sure something has been missed. I honestly do not know what any of the above issues/diagnoses even mean. I am 18 yrs post auto accident and it has just gotten worse. I lose sensation in my left side of my body way too often and I do not know why. I am 35 using a walker when it is bad or a cane when I am not so unstable. I have to wear a back brace due to the fractures. My neurosurgeon at UK is a conservative type and states he will not perform another surgery unless he feels it is going to be a positive outcome and only working option due to the failed fusion. I have had epidurals, blocks, you name it in the past 4 years including biweekly physical therapy. My PCP currently prescribes percocet 10, 6 per day, Neurontin 300mg 3x and Soma 350 4x. I take valium as well due to severe panic disorder and I can honestly state my quality of life is just nonexistant at this point. My current med regimen is not much help at all, still chronic daily pain, still loss of sensation in left side causing multiple falls. I know nothing about these diagnoses as I said and I do not know my options and I do not know what to expect with the PM referral to Pasadena Rd. ANY input would be so helpful and a God send. Sorry I went overboard with all the info, I just wanted to ensure it is out there that I am not a seeking addict and I just want to live for myself and my children like a normal 35 year old Mom!!

@sbierr...or anyone else

We have exchanged posts a couple of times and I have a couple of more ??'s for you. I know I have told you and everyone. Else what I get for a script. My pain doc has told me in so many words that I cannot get my meds increased cus she feels Im maxed out ( although I get alot I know theres more room). The doc said that if I keep complaining my pain isnt under control she will decrease me because its a known fact that people can become hyper sensistive ( not term she used but I cant remember term) and that by decreasing opiods a person may actually feel better ( I know thats a load of s*** and they just dont want to justify if DEA comes knockin. So my question is what do I do? There r basically no other pm doctors in area and I need more relief??
As a solution to the above prob Im seriously thinking bout double dipping ( no laws in my state) but I know that if I get caught I might not get any relief @ all. My ?? Is that current doc sz DEA is instructing pharmacies to report docs ( if they write over so many tabs of certtain meds a month) or report script holders if they feel there is abuse. Is this my doc just making another excuse to increase my meds or is DEA actually instructing pharmacies to do this?? I know most everyone on this board is from the south but I gotta ask this....Im from duluth, mn and a person told me that some how Duluth, Mn and Superior , Wi share info if your filling meds in bordering city/state?? Have you heard of this happening in other states?? I thought each state just maintained there own data base and did not share?? Even if the states actually dont share is there anyway the feds would find out and intervene ( I pay cash and have no insurance)?? Any thoughts?? Lastly I know everyone would advise against double dipping ( gotta do something cus im dying in pain) if a person were gonnatake there chances and double dip which way would b the best for me to do it, between 2 neighboring states or between 1 state and a VAMC in another state?? Your thoughts please!!
Ill quit hogging the board after this last question. I went to the ER other day and on top of my usual pain meds they prescribed me 4mg tabs of Dialaudid. When taking my normal meds w/ 3, 4mg tabs of Dilaudid I felt great!! So my question is that if you start telling your doc that you want a certain drug you appear to b a drug seeker...how do u tellyour doc u want/need a certain drug?? Lastly what are docs hang up w/dilaudid?? My understanding is Dilaudid is synthisized morphine and im already on morphine so whats the big hoop-lah??
Your thoughts r appreciated....thank you

Mike, double dipping is a BADDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!! Ideal. There is a federal reporting system that all doctors and pharmacies are required by law to report all controlled meds prescribed and filled. However when I researched the narcotic laws a few months back I never read anything regarding how much a doctor can prescribe. I personally think there is a limited a doctor chooses to stay under that reduces their chances of being raided.
As far as you needing more pain relief believe me "I feel Your pain" My doctor never comes into a room without a aide. In case they need to change the subject when it comes to increasing or changing pain meds. He also is the only pm around where I live unless I travel at least 60+ miles.

Howard, I have a few questions before I post my reply on your MRI results .
1) Did your cervical fusion heal properly?
2) how long have you had fibromy.....?
3) did all the injections and blocks help you?

I also have fibro for 20 years & DDD and had a cervical fusion c4 & 5 so I know what you are going through.

@sbsierr

Thanx for your reply....I just have a couple of follow-up??'s

I know what u r saying about double-dipping and I agree..I am between a rock and a hard place though. Because of my pain I gotta do something; I cant go on this way and I cant jump off a bridge because I have a 7 yr old and a mom that in no way shape or form can take care of her. Buying from other people in my area is not an option because I dont like the prison idea or I would go broke ( i.e. in my area 1 30mg MS Contin goes for $20 ouch). Any thoughts would b appreciated!!
Back to double dipping. I know BAD BAD....if you were gonna attempt which idea do you like and why....2 different states or 1 state and a VAMC in another?? You mentioned doc and/or pharm report 2 feds....back in the hay day of florida I was double dipping to say the least for approx 1 year ( 2-3 yrs ago)...have the feds changed reporting ways since then??
Last question.....I know you seem like a drug seeker if you ask for a certain med....so how do you get around that....what do you tell your doc in an attempt to get a more effective med then what u r taking?? Thanks agn.

@SBSIERR
1. No my level 3 fusion C4-C7 was deemed a failure almost immediately. The only difference is the cervical problems are more localized toward the spine area and not spread across my shoulders like it was but since the surgery I still get that holy crap I am being tazered zapping feeling. most often in my cervical area but it also randomly happens in my lumbar area as well.
2. I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2009 and was told by that Doc he was sure I had it for some time prior to diagnosis.
3. I had repeated blocks and injections, the epidurals as well in my neck and my low back from 2010 to the end of 2012 and the Doctors knew not a single one gave any relief to my symptoms. I am concerned this new PM place is going to push to attempt them again even though I know they DO NOT WORK, waste of cost for my insurance and due to my blood disorders excessive, unnecassary bruises on my back. The problems are progessing worse and quickly. I am going from a walker to recommendation of a wheelchair asap for most regular activities. And the loss of sensation, dominantly in the left side is a regular, WAY TOO COMMON thing! They are now referring me for a Thoracic spine MRI that has never been checked because all cervical and lumbar MRIs have caught the top and bottom T-spine in the scans with problems in them as well so guess I will see how much more damaged I am. My PCP is also referring me out for a 2nd opinion with an Ortho surgeon on the lumbar as well. She also changed me from percocet 6 times a day to OxyIR or Roxycodone 10mg 6 times a day to get rid off all the tylenol due to the neurosurgeons recommendation. He claimed he felt I should be on a stronger pain relief regimen due to the problems progessing and knowing even at max percocet he knew it would bring no relief and I am sure my liver is shredded by now due to that max dose. The OxyIR definitely hits faster but it is the same minus the tylenol so it is still minimal but better than nothing until I get into PM because my PCP said she could not increase my dosage of the pain meds due to KASPER law. At least she is attempting something until then. Due to all this and then some I am now diagnosed with SEVERE high BP and medicated for that now. Apparently 209/106 is not a very appropriate BP reading lol. I knew it was high but holy crap. She said it is definitely worse because the chronic pain and stress plays a huge factor when it comes to BP. I got my new MRI lumbar scan and apparently it seemed to miss some of the things that have been there on every prior scan since 2009 so that was odd, as well as a recent scan from June showing 2 fractures in my lumbar, one old and one new from a recent "jello legs" as I call them, fall. MRI C-spine says appearance of spinal canal stenosis. The one new thing I did see on the recent scan interpretations is in regard to lymph nodes in my neck and lumbar is moderate spondylotic changes of the lumbar spine greatest at L4-L5 and it includes something that says, quoted "enlarged retroperitoneal lymph nodes as well as prominent iliac chain lymph nodes; recommend correlation for lymphoproliferative disorder", This was not mentioned to me I just decided to read over my copies of the scans and that was listed under the "Impression". Hope I did not miss anything, as I mentioned in a previous post, I always post through my AOL email browser and I have noticed sometimes it misses parts but looks to me like it got everything I have typed.

I live in TN and it sucks trying to find a PM Dr that doesn't look at you like a seeker. Since a wreck in 1994 I've been in PM. I've tried just about anything through the yrs. Drs increased my meds as more problems come up till I finally found meds that worked. Then my Dr quit. Then I had nerve pain that hit. Anyways the new Dr put me on lortab 7.5. This left me in constant pain that seriously made me feel like I was gonna loose it. I had back surgery and thank God I have no more nerve pain. Even with the surgery he wouldn't change my meds. I've not been back. I've been looking for new PM with no luck. Even my neuro told me I would need PM the rest of my life. I'm feelin it too. I've not found anyone in TN. I now know why people are going out of state for PM and smoke pot.

I'm sorry James but I am not a addict I think if you have cancer and 2 backsurgeries you would not judge me cause bac pain is terrible then you put the cancer pain in the mix there is nothing like you have ever felt.I don't judge ppl in pain and I don't call them addicts.I was on hospice and my son knew whst that meant because his dad my husband Died of cancer and they put him on hospice and with in a few days he was Dead.so I was on it but didn't want to die so I asked to be taken off andjust help me with the pain and the pain dr took care of me for years I was one of his first patients when he opened up and to cut me off just because I took a few percet to get some sleep and help the bone pain which the cancer has ran does not mean I am a addict I guess I should have stayed on hospice then you would not call me that I wiuld be no ons problem I wouldd be dead but my my son wantsto keep me around for awhile since he lost his dad to this dreadful disease.I would be no ones problem and not be in such pain I wish I were.Seems like youare the one doctor shopping I did have the same dr. for years.It is the Ibama care he wants us nit to get the help weneed I see on tv where so many ppl are killing themselves and their family maybe they have cancer and go throygh the stage of wanting to take their families with them which is stupid I went throufh so manystages of why me and feeling all alone so don't call someone names till you walk in their shoes.I love life and thars why I have tried everu treatment to no avail .God Bless yoy James and hope younever feel what cancer pain feels like.

@Katie Ignore the ignorance you find on here, trust me I have seen plenty and it is usually the seekers running their traps. Where are you located? I wish you the best and DO NOT GIVE UP!! I just lost my Uncle on the 6th and did not find out until a week later that he found out a week before he died that he had colon cancer and refused chemotherapy, killed me not knowing in time, just to get that last week with him, but it was his wishes. It was way too soon after losing my Mom last year, actually at the hands of a PM doctor no less. And YES, for the ignorant out there my Mother was in COMPLETE compliance with her PM contract and monthly pill counts and toxicology report came back showing she was within her dosage limits. The Doctor murdered her by adding morphine to her current medication regimen she had been on for some time before checking any interaction risks and the 60mg of morphine on top of th 4 other one meds, including one of her inhalers killed her. So PM definitely scares the hell out of me but I hear KY has stricter policies and laws so I am hoping it works here and they check interactions on everything at my demand. I do not want to die at 48 like my Grandmother or 50 like my Mother and apparently the PM doc is hiding something that she dies not want our attorney, THANK GOD he is pushing it throuh to take that ride.

I trusted what Docs told me, never questioning and never demanding a second opinion on any major recommendations. My neck fusion was an immediate failure in OH. My prayers are with you and yours, just keep fighting.
