Oxycontin Instant Release?

Given OxyContin Extended Release 40mg per 12 hours in place of Methadone 10mg four times daily. Always given for pain by MD, 20 years now. Initial dose 20 yrs ago was 200 mg daily, got myself down to 120 mg daily, then down to 40mg (all of these in four doses, that took 3 years).

I've been on OxyContin ER for one month along with Vicodin for breakthrough and Tramadol. Nothing really works. Can't sleep, eat or care for myself. The reason I'm off Methadone is because insurance said I would need to pay for it and I can't. Back with my parents and they are lost in this situation. On OxyContin I get relief for about 4 hours (after it takes close to an hour to start relief). They are the worst.

I just want Methadone back but it has ruined and ruled my life. No marriage, no children, no sex drive. Could not handle supplement of testosterone, it gave me more anxiety and anger issues, which I never had before. Girlfriends have stayed but usually end by giving-up on me! I'm lost and really tired of being on this merry-go-round called life. You can imagine what my thought process leans toward!

Hello, Edward! How are you doing? I am very sorry about what you've been going through.

I understand that you're miserable, and frustrated, but your post lacks some details, and it would make it easier to advise you, if you could post back and clarify, such as what is causing your pain? Have you been diagnosed with a root cause, or causes?

Some types of pain respond better to certain medications, so it's always beneficial to be as specific as possible.

Instant release Oxycodone is only available in a very low dose, but there is a regular release formulation that usually starts working about 20 to 30 minutes after taking it.

Ref: Oxycodone Information

Methadone is one of the hardest opiates to detox from, which is why so many people on it never become truly drug free.
