On Pristiq And Doing Well
(Newest replies first)

I was severely depressed due to the loss of my husband in May. My doctor started me out on Zoloft but it did work well for me. Had tremors and felt sick. He switched me to PRistiq starting at 50 mg. I was better for awhile but the dosage was not high enough. I am now on 100 mg and doing much better. No bad side effects and I have lost a lot of weight (this started even before I started taking the Zoloft). My appetite has definitely decreased but I do not feel the need to eat more and food tastes fine. My husband dying and being depressed is a terrible way to trigger a weight loss but I am at a much healthier weight for my age and height.

I started on 50mg of pristiq just over 1 year ago. I had been experiencing anxiety after my sister in-law passed away at the age of 27 from an inoperable brain tumour.
My anxiety started with feeling a rush of fear of being in public and not feeling well. Then it got to the point where i couldn't be in public at all. After having a major attack at work one day, I went straight to my doctor. She started me on Lexapro but I had too many nasty side effects so she switched me to Pristiq 50mg. It took around a month to six weeks for me to notice the difference. My thoughts weren't always the worst as they were before, I found I could function better in everyday life. I saw a therapist at my doctors request and after delving deep, I realised I hadn't dealt with alot of issues about my sister in-law passing and that I had issues about dying. I worked through those issues with my therapist. About six months ago I felt the anxiety rising again, my doctor upped my dose to 100mg. It kicked in pretty quickly and I feel pretty even keeled these days. The panic attacks are no more. Finding that I dont go to the worse place possible in my head is such a big change and such a good feeling. I am now back to studying and loving life. Occassionally I do find myself overthinking situations but I catch myself out and redirect my path of thought. That is something that wasn't possible before pristiq. I dont know how long I will be on it for but I am comfortable that I am now equipped with the knowledge and the tools to recognise my anxiety and control it before it spirals out of control.
I'm so sorry for your loss! I can't imagine what you are going through, I'm glad you are getting some help and found something to help you with your depression. I have been on Zoloft for 8 yrs and I'm on 200 mg. It's really not working all that well now, so my dr just prescribed Pristiq, haven't started it yet and kind of afraid to now after all these responses. I'm a little afraid, but I guess it's better than being depressed! Good luck and I hope you heal soon.
My husband died also 6 years ago. I am 40 years old with 3 boys. I have been on Prozac and Xanax. I dont know if it is enough anymore--?? I am on 20 mg. of Pro and .25 of Xan. Was wondering if you were on any of these before you tried Pristiq?
I am very sorry to hear of your loss, but also glad that you found a medication to help you.
