My Doctor just recently Diagnosed me with Type 2 Diabetes a Month ago. So i was prescribed and have been taking Metformin 500 MG twice a day with a Meal. My first meal of the day is always a light one, if any and my 2nd Meal always in the Late Evening is generally med to heavy. But I find that since taking this drug that I have been sleeping alot, always feeling lazy and have been experiencing Heart Burn at times. But I don't think that I have Lactate Acidious that they warn of. Is this the Normal side effects of this Drug? And how long does it last? As I have noticed that if I stop taking the Medicine my Meter Readings are always above 200 after eating anything, so I probally do need to take the Medication.
I AM DIAGNOSED DIABATIC AND MY DOCTOR HAS PRESCRIBED ME METFORMIN SR 500MG TWO TIMES A DAY AND GLIMER 1MG ONCE A DAY. I WANT TO KNOW AT WHAT TIME THESE TABELTS SHOULD BE TAKEN HOW MUCH TIME BEFORE MEAL OR AFTER MEAL TO GET THE BETTER RESULTS . I AM ALSO HAVING LOOSE MOTION AFTER TAKING THESE MEDICINES. FOR HOW MANY DAYS I WILL HAVE TO TAKE THESE MEDICINES
REGARDS
I saw your question while searching for side effects of Metformin HCL. I started taking it a few weeks ago, and my hair is falling out at an alarming rate. Did you get an answer to your inquiry and if so, would you mind sharing it with me. Many thanks. Fran
I want to tell you to all of you to be careful with this medication because some people can show some Metformin side effects and alergic reaction.
Allergic reactions can be really dangerous and can cause, swelling of tongue, mouth, face and lips, also dark urine can appear, very strong pains in the abdomen, dizziness, difficulties when urinating. I experience few of this and it was living hell... i am now on Glipizide
Please add Fenfuro with your existing medicinal regime and see the results within 3-6 months.
Are the thining of your hair a side effort of taking 500mg twice a day for about 2 years?
I was on Metformin for several years. It helps with the Blood sugar. Not knowing the side affects was the excessive wet burps. It was uncontrollable. I may not of explained it completely to my Doctor. So I was put on Nexum.
$$$$ over and over.
I was just taken off of the Metformin. Very little to no wet burps. Thinking about getting off the Nexum $$$. Since the wet burps are maybe once or twice a week instead of 5-6 times or more a day.
But - my sugar is climbing and the new med doesn't seem to work as well as the Metformin.
You maybe discribing it as heartburn. But it's not!
Good Luck!
WHen you are diabetic, it is always advisable to eat more than just two meals a day, you should eat 3 well-balanced meals and have a health snack or two.
Doing so helps to better balance your blood sugar and is much healthier for you, overall.
As to the sleepiness, yes, this can be a side effect of the medication, however, it could also partly be from the fact that your body has been used to running at a high sugar level and is now having to readjust to a lower level.
It should, eventually, taper off and not be as severe, as your body gets used to these changes. It may take a few weeks, however.
And yes, the heartburn can also be a normal side effect of the medication.
