Omeprazole Manufacturers Changed - New Meds Causing Pain In Chest!

The pharmacy has changed the manufacturer of my 20 mg Omeprazole from Sandoz to Dr.Reddy Labs. Know when I take my dosage I am getting a tremendous pain across my chest that lasts about an hour. HELP!

Hello, Sturg! How are you?

Are you making sure to take it with a full 8ounce glass of water, unless your on fluid restriction?

A lot of times that happens due to dry swallowing pills.

If this one isn't working for you, it could also be due to GERD.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, flatulence and stomach pain.

Have you consulted your doctor? All chest pain should be evaluated, just in case.

I usually have it with 8 oz of OJ in morning with no prob. I will try it with a full glass of water after breakfast. I do have some symptoms of acid reflux. There is a definite difference between the makeup of each manufacturers pils. I am very sensitive to many generics, not all, because of their makeup. Thanks again,

OJ is very acidic, so that can worsen the acid problem. Try it with water to see if that helps.

I have a similar problem with many generics, so I do understand.

Hi Verwon,
Lactose is a common filler in many medications. For those who are highly sensitive to milk sugar, this can cause bloating, pain, gas and diarrhea. Others may need to enlist the help of a pharmacist to discover whether their drugs could be causing digestive distress.Sometimes diarrhea, gas or cramps may be a reaction to the medication rather than to lactose in the filler. This is one of the fillers that really bothers me. Many manufacturers now use this is a filler. I wish there was a place to go that would list the makeup of each pill without pleading for it with the manufacturing company or bouncing from company to company. Generic Keppra(I do not know it's name) is an example. Many others, hang in there Verwon
