Olmesartan Medoxomil Has A Really Terrible Smell
UpdatedI noticed when I started taking the Olmesartan Medoxomil about 9 months ago it has a pretty bad smell. I took it back to the pharmacy and told them to smell the bottle and they agreed but said they all smell like that. I take this plus the generic Norvasc 10mg, the Olmesartan is 40/25 and clonidine 0.2mg. I have noticed recently swelling in my feet and ankles, also a rash on the lower part of my legs.

I was originally prescribed Benicar 40/20 but when they came out with a generic (olmesartan) i was required to switch over to that. I have taken these two medications for years and have had no side effects at all. I know everyone can have different effects I have never had any issues (yet).
Hello, Sue! How are you doing? Has there been any change?
You should contact your doctor immediately, as those could be the signs of a possibly dangerous reaction, which could mean that you must switch medications. Typical side effects can include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, dehydration, and hypotension.
As to the odor, yes, that is normal, and many medications smell strange, or downright foul.
Re: VerFree (# 2)
I did check with my Dr. About my feet swelling and a rash. .He says the swelling may come from standing to long or even sitting. I have alit of health issues. I do have a water pill that is included in my bloodpressure medication I have CKD and I'm at stage 3, also my potassium has been low so I have been on klor-con20 for almost 2 years It was at 3.2 then it went up to 4.I go for blood work every 3-4months. I have alot of issues, I also have diabetes so that could also have to do the swelling I have and rash. How often should I be going for bloodwork to have my potassium checked? The last time I went was in October.
Hi Sue! I know your message is dated 2019 but I wanted to see how you were. Sounds like you have a lot going on, such as I. When I saw your symptoms I knew right away it was probably edema with your underlying cause of CKD. I hope by now all is under control and you’re feeling better. I have CIDP and so far my kidneys are holding up from treatments. But I’ve had edema and knew exactly what you were talking about. And the STINCH of Olmesarten? It’s just plain UNDENIABLY FOUL!!! May God bless you through your trials and triumphs… Hang in there!
I’ve been taking olmesartan for years. I just opened a new bottle and oh my word!! The stench was immense!! Everyone in the room could smell it! Mine has never smelled before! I am not taking this. They best give me a new bottle of non stench pills!
