Old Phenazopyridine Medication

Around 7pm today I started experiencing UTI like symptoms. This time last year, 2/15/16, I was also treated for a UTI and was prescribed phenazopyridine and sulfamethoxazole. I was waiting an hour while drinking glasses and glasses of water before I knew it was a UTI. Once I determined it was, I had one of each of my old prescriptions, until I can go pick up a new one tomorrow morning. However, the phenazopyridine doesn't seem to be relieving my symptoms, and the pain when I urinate is getting worse. My urine is also yellow, not orange. Even from the beginning to now. Is it because the prescription is just over a year old? Any suggestion? I'm in quite a bit of pain.

It is hard to say, medications do lose efficacy with time, but it could also be due to a different strain of bacteria causing this infection, or it may be more severe than the prior infection.

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, and discolored urine.

Have you been dehydrated recently? Have you ever experienced kidney stones?
