My doctor recently left the practice. He was my GP and wrote all my meds including pain meds for my spinal stenosis. The doctor he referred me to is writing them but she is reducing them and told me that the practice is trying to get patients on narcotics over to pain management doctors. I know that many pain management doctors do not write prescriptions and instead do injections, PT, etc. I have been down that road with nothing to show for it. Does anyone know of a good pain management doctor that will write pain meds but not subject you to a UA every single month or an office visit every single month? It's not that I won't pass it I just don't want another paranoid doctor that is more worried about the Fed than me. Thank you!

That's not just something that their practice is doing, that's something that's being enforced for everyone requiring long-term pain management treatment under the new laws that went in place at the beginning of the year.

Learn more pain management details here.

General practitioners and surgeons will only be allowed to prescribe narcotic pain medications for mostly short-term use, such as for a few weeks after someone has had surgery or been in an accident.

There are even some medications, such as Vicodin or Norco that are being designated specifically for short-term use only.

There are going to be some instances where doctors can keep on certain patients, but the number is going to be very limited and there are strict rules to the treatments and prescription options right now.

And the monthly visit is a requirement under the law that has been in place for awhile now. You can't have refills on certain controlled substance prescriptions.

They really don't have a choice but to worry about the federal laws, if they don't, they can lose their license to practice.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with such hassles, but this is the way it works now for everyone.

Does anyone have any other ideas to add that may help?
