Norco Shortage In Michigan (Page 18) (Top voted first)

Is anyone else having problems finding a pharmacy to fill their scripts of Norco? I have been taking them for a few years now for my chronic pain. I always go to the same pharmacy chain, and its always the same doctor who writes my scripts, but since the new law change no one seems to have them in stock. Some pharmacists told me it was a manufacturer back order. We are told not to go without our meds, but yet how is that possible if we can't get them? Anyone knows of a pharmacy that has Norco 10/325 in the metro Detroit area?

I have also noticed something else. Before the schedule change of Hydrocodone there were commercials on TV and the radio constantly for pain medication addiction. Since the change I have not seen, or heard one. Someone, somewhere, succeeded in pushing their agenda. !!!! Has anyone seen even one story on the news about the Hydrocodone unavailability ??? Very fishy !!!!

You can ask for tramadol or crappy Tylenol 3-4s but I find the withdraw from tramadol worse. Also working at a veterinary office tramadol is now a controlled substance as of a few months ago. Gabapetin is not controlled and I sometimes take this to break up how much Tylenol or acetaminophen I'm putting into my body and it seems to help with my fibromyalgia

I have been taking 10/325 hydro for probably 15 years, never any problem with being dope sick.. I'm a prn user but I cannot work without them due to the physical nature of the job. Anyway a couple months ago I made the stupid decision to self medicate with street drugs because I couldn't get a prescription since they changed the law, what happens, the same week I use I get in to see my dr. and she writes me a script but gives me a drug panel first in the office for the first time in 5 years, Obviously I failed and now no more scripts..... big, big blunder with long term consequence

Pattycakes, I hope you're still around to read this. I understand and sympathize but that does nothing to help your pain. If not for my wife I too would follow your lead and check out of this miserable, uncaring life. Oh it's not just this life, it's this country's dictatorial stance on drugs in general. Pot is a Sched. I drug? Gimme a break. My wife has a great neurosurgeon who implanted her morphine pain pump and has it at a level she is relatively pain free. Unfortunately my condition is not as bad as hers so I must continue to shop for a doc and pharmacy that will provide the relief I so desperately need. It is an effed up situation, so if and when you do decide to go for round #2, please do your research and determine a method that is fail-proof. But don't think you'll go to hell for doing so, that is a place for those who are so arrogant and self-righteous that they would deny us relief from a burden imposed by a defective body. At least that is my belief from the perspective of an agnostic. I admire your courage and bravery. One day I may see you on the other side. Best wishes.

Changes coming for some pain medicines

September 3rd 2014, American Academy of Pain Management

On August 22, 2014, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made a rule that puts new controls on some kinds of pain medicine. This rule comes after lots of government agencies and groups for people with pain, people with drug abuse problems, and healthcare providers have discussed it for more than 10 years.

The DEA’s rule will goes into effect on October 6, 2014. It will cause some big changes to how some pain medicines are prescribed. We want you to know about these changes, so that you can work with your healthcare providers to keep from running out of medicine.

What medicines are affected?

There are 65 brand names of these medicines on the market, as well as their generic versions. Here are some of the brand names, as well as a way to know if your generic medicine is affected:

•Vicodin, Vicodin ES, Vicodin HP
•Lortab, Lorcet, Lorcet Plus
•Norco
•Zydone
•Vicoprofen
•Cough medicines including hydrocodone
•Any other medicine that includes the word “hydrocodone” and one of the following:
Aspirin
ASA
Acetaminophen
APAP
Ibuprofen

If you have refills left on your prescription

After the new rule goes into effect on October 6, pharmacies will not be able to refill prescriptions for these medicines. If you already have a prescription, and it has refills left on it, those refills will be canceled on October 6, and you will need to get a new prescription from your prescriber.

Also, after the rule goes into effect, your prescriber will not be able to call in a prescription for these medicines to the pharmacy. If you are going to keep taking these medicines and need a new prescription, you will need to get a new written prescription from your prescriber.

This means that, if you are going to need a refill after October 6, it would be a good idea for you to talk to your prescriber now, so the two of you can decide how to get you the prescription you will need.

Some prescribers might decide that they need to have you come in for an office visit before writing a new prescription. Others might decide that they can just write a prescription and have you pick it up at their office.

Other details for your prescriber

The new rules will no longer allow refills, but there is a way that you can get prescriptions with enough medicine to last for three months. Your prescriber will need to know about how to do this, and will need to write your prescriptions in a certain way to make this happen. If your prescriber does not know about this, he or she can find information about the rules here.

A final word: Keep your medicines safe

The DEA is making this new rule because a lot of people don’t use their pain medicines the way they should be used. Sometimes, people use pain medicines without having a prescription for them. That is very dangerous, and they can die if they do that.

When they are asked, most people who use pain medicines that don't have a prescription say that they got the medicine from a friend or a relative. Sometimes they say they got it for free, sometimes they say they bought it, and sometimes they say they stole it.

Because a lot of people who don't have a prescription want to get these medicines, it is very important that you keep them in a safe place. If you have a place where you can lock them up, please use it. If you don’t have a place like that, please hide your pain medicines in a place where no one would think to look for them. And importantly, don’t tell anyone else where they are, because you might not know who wants to get them.

If you have medicines left over, for any reason, please get rid of them as soon as possible. The DEA and your local police or sheriff’s department usually have special “take-back” days in April and October of each year. At other times, you can mix your extra medicines with something unpleasant, like used kitty litter or used coffee grounds, put them into a sealed plastic bag, and then put them into your household trash. Just be as sure as you can that no one who doesn't have a prescription will be able to get them out of your trash and use them.

Norco is a very weak drug based on the fact no one mentioned withdrawal. Try a few Advil. Otherwise you can do what the millions of people who were on OxyContin and Opana did while the DEA cleaned up the perscription drug problem with all the new laws and chasing doctors who write too much and everything else and move to H! Since this no cense started about 3 years ago H use is up over 2000% so they are causing people with manageable overseen pain management all just turn into junkies!! The DEA WILL LOOK LIKE HEROS BUT HAVE CREATED JR HIGH DEALERS DUE TO EASE OF GETTING PRODUCT AND NOW THE DEMAND ISNT ONLY THE PEOPLE I MENTIONED BUT A WHOLE NEW BUNCH OF USERS THAT OUTNUMBER THE PILL PEOPLE 20 to 1. There is an epidemic coming cause solely by the government that will make what was happening with the pills look like child's play, mark my words, follow the newspapers and drug OD's and eventually all the busts which will amount to about 5% of the problem.

That doesnt change the fact Norcos should be a class 2 drug. Your issue should be with the doctors that over prescribe them to people who should not have them.

Oh give it a rest TNTC. God has nothing to do with it. When I'm suffering in pain - anyone for that matter - there is no god. There is nothing that can make that pain go away but medicine and/or surgery to correct the cause of the pain. Wishing and praying doesn't do a damn bit of good. Laying in bed writhing and crying out in pain, calling upon a non-existent god for help? Good luck with that. There is a reason the medicine works: It is real.

Paul - I totally agree with you speaking about how a fictional God is going to help us take away or ease our chronic deblilitating pain. TNTC please stop your preaching seriously because that is really all you are doing and being opinionated too. If God could take away my pain why hasn't he done so in the last 16 years that I have had unbearable nerve pain in my neck and back? Huh? I'm sure you will have an answer for that one too. If you are not going to give any of us on this thread some solid informative information than please don't write anything at all. Oh and go to church you say? We can't even get out of bed or even drive half the time - hey church that's the way to go. lol

Norco or Lortab is now a schedule II narcotic, right up there with all the heavy duties like Fentanyl, Oxycontin etc...Since then, docs are backing pts off the heavy duties and giving this more. Any pharmacy carries these, any.of them. One thing many peeps may not be aware of is that a person has to use the same pharmacy for any and all scripts. You can't pick and choose which has the best meds. All drs, pharms are connected by computer to the DEA And your states bureau of narcotics and if filling narcotics at different places, its now called pharmacy shopping and the pharmacist has to report you if you've filled the same pain med at another pharm. It's real ridiculous but it stops all the addicts from making things worse for peeps who need PM docs so it's a blessing in a way. I use 1 pharm for absolutely everything. Everyone who's not dr shopping, using insurance at one, paying cash at another, please use just 1 and maybe things will easr up on us good people, not drug seeking scum

When you take certain meds you accept the risks that taking those meds entails. One of the reason that some drs aren't writting rxs for pain meds any longer is because they have gotten tired of patients threats. If you don't want to go through withdrawals, don't take a med that is physically addicting. You can't blame a dr or sue them because you don't like what happens when you can't get the meds. There are no laws that state anyone has a right to have their pain treated.
