Norco Shortage In Michigan (Page 12) (Top voted first)
UpdatedIs anyone else having problems finding a pharmacy to fill their scripts of Norco? I have been taking them for a few years now for my chronic pain. I always go to the same pharmacy chain, and its always the same doctor who writes my scripts, but since the new law change no one seems to have them in stock. Some pharmacists told me it was a manufacturer back order. We are told not to go without our meds, but yet how is that possible if we can't get them? Anyone knows of a pharmacy that has Norco 10/325 in the metro Detroit area?
To all Florida chronic pain patients: Please follow this link, and sign the petition to all our legislators, regarding the narcotic prescription shortage. While we're all severely suffering, and are unable to do anything else, at least we can take some action by signing. Here's the link: petitions.moveon.org/sign/florida-prescription?source=s.fwd&r_by=5784872
Condor, in reply # 34 the source you quoted stated that if a there were refills on a rx written before Oct 6, that refills wouldn't be allowed. Federal Law Does Not state that. The Federal Law states that if a rx was written before Oct 6 with refills that the refills "may" be gotten until April 8 2015. But, it is up to each individual pharmacy or pharmacy chain if they want to refill. Some are and some aren't Put, dea AND hydrocodone AND refills AND april 8 2015 in your search bar.
You are right there is NO shortage it is Bulls***. If you use Walgreens keep going to different ones - my pharmacist at Walgreens told me he doesn't know about any shortages for Norco even with the change that he has over 2 full bottles sitting on the shelf. I am in Florida and I know this thread is about the shortage in Michigan but if there is no shortage here why would there be in Michigan? But I wanted to add if you can't find Norco try to have your pm doctor write your rx for Vicodin. It is the same drug hydrocodone and I know people might say they can't afford it BUT the Vicodin by the manufacturer Abvee has a GENERIC co-pay so really it is going to cost you the same as the generic Norco. I have not had one issue getting my monthly Vicodin re-filled and they always have it in stock at Walgreens. I hope this helps in maybe a solution for getting some pain relief right now.
They changed the drug class of hydrocodone in michigan to a higher one. Docs are now refusing to write for it or very hesitant. They have been scarce for weeks now. Some pharmacies will not fill it. It is now in the same class as H. Switching everyone to Tylenol #3. Blah.
Well, then, perhaps they would be more 'inclined' to initiate some sort of reform, or re-distribution (whatever the case may be), if the patients united, in any way possible, thereby putting the 'law-makers' under the microscope, and hitting big Pharma right in their pockets.
I posted the other day but said it had to be reviewed so I will try and re-post. There is no shortage my pharmacist at Walgreens in Florida has 2 full bottles of norco sitting on the shelf. The shortage excuse is BS. But if you can get your doctor to write your rx for Vicodin you should not have a problem getting it filled. Vicodin is the same as norco hydrocodone AND it has a generic co-pay so will cost you the same. The vicodin is made by the manufacturer Abvee and for some reason they have a generic copay. Works the same way or I think better than norco generic. I am currently taking the 10 mg. 3 x a day and getting good relief for severe lower chronic back pain and it has 300 mg. of tylenol as opposed to 325 mg. with norco. This is just a suggestion and maybe will help you find a medication for the pain and not have to jump through hoops at these pharmacies claiming a shortage.
Collie Drugs in St Clair Shores can get them but it takes a day or two. Cvs, walgreens, etc are usless. Call LOCAL mom and pop pharmacies and see if they can get them. The chain stores ARE NOT carrying enough to fill the scripts.
The DEA allows manufacturing companies a quota on the active ingredients of Schedule II for a year. When they have exhausted the quota, they can't make any more until the new year. It is not uncommon to have problems locating Schedule II's at the end of the year.
Well I'm done with Norcos...Just got a script filled for Oxycodone 5/325 and it's working great .........Tired of looking for Norco's......I called over 47 pharmacys last week...mom and pop and the major pharmacies. No one had them ....one pharmacy ask me if I had insurance ...I said yes , then they replied they didn't have any....lmao If I had cash they would have filled them I know. Since this new law came into effect , these pharmacy's have been making there own rules...they will fill your script if you have more scripts to fill or if your a regular customer etc. I had one pharmacist say how many Norco's did I need filled I told her and she said and I quote ! Hell no we can't fill that many ! So if your looking for Norco's you will be waiting till after New Years........
Condor, which manufacturer of oxycodone is working for you? So many people are havng problems with percocet now that Actavis has taken over.
agenda 21 guys it's all about controlI am a recovering cancer patient cannot fill my script either all they're trying to do is raise the value on the streets and peoplewith legitimate problems who take them the way they're supposed to are the ones who are affected
I have been taking Vicodin then Norco when law changed, for 10 years. 10-325 now. 4 a day and have gone to the same CVS the whole time. Dec 2nd had my annual physical and got my scripts. got to CVS got the BS everyone else is getting. I don't want to go through withdrawl and be in pain, so I went to about 12 pharm's and 2 hospitals to get my script filled. got a different story from each one no luck.
So here's the stupidity of it all !! I went back to my doctor same day told him the situation so he changed my script to percacet. I went back to same CVS and they filled it. Although I pay cash and it was $120 at least I"M good for this month. But I'm worried about next month I have a Norco script already written with a do not refill until.
So now the Gov. has caused me to spend more money and take a stronger med. Doesn't make sense, This needs to stop. But at least I kinda believe my pharmacist that he was out of Norco or told not to give it out. Still feel judged overheard him say to the other Pharm. Norco user switched over to perc. with a disgusted look.
I got lucky yest. Got my usual 180per/month. Walgreen's. For lower back, neck etc...they were out 10 days, they were working on my script while another guy walked up they told him they didn't have norco for him. They were in and supposedly out of them that quick. I. Feel very lucky but its all screwy. I hope the manufacturer gets their s*** together I'm already worried about next fill. Thinking of a change

I too, cannot locate Norco in Metro Detroit. I been on them for years due to multiple back issues. I have called everywhere, this is ridiculous! I would like to thank the junkies forcing the new law to exist. Meanwhile us true chronic pain people can suffer. I'm at a loss. I cannot tolerate this amount of debilitating pain. Also, as someone stated, we aren't to stop this medication. Anyone know of a pharmacy?
Yes its the junkies messing it up.got lucky yesterday with Walgreen's, they know me quite well.
It was weird when I got my norco 10s Dec.3 while they were working on my script, another guy came up, women said she didn't have norco for him. She told me i got the last of it. They just got them in Dec.3.. Its like they pick and choose, I am working on a change any ideas? I hate oxy op
yes you are right! now I have been on norco for over 25 years & vicodin, from a bad car accident. now more money! we have to pay, for pain management classes, UA's, have to go to the doctor every month, instead of having a refill, its b.s. who paying in mich? we are!! this is bulls***. they need to worry about the people that never had a broken finger nail that are getting morphine!
This is all big brother crap... First Vicodin, now Norco... Our government needs to keep their nose out of our business. Stuffing Ocare down people's throat, just another rediculous happening. Pain is pain, and if people want to kill themselves overdosing for pleasure, be my guest. But the legitimate needs for painkillers and cheapness of Norco, make it perfect for chronic pain. Problem is gov gets no $ out of this... First it was gov hoarding ammo creating shortage, then Vicodin, now Norco... Time for new gov that cares!!!
I would like to add that I do not blame the junkies for this. America uses 80-90% of the world's supply of opiates. Who am I to judge who is in pain and who isnt? The doses I see some chronic pain patients in are the very same doses "junkies" use to "function".
I do think this shortage is stupid but I do think it will pass. I really believe it does have something to do with the labeling of the packages and the incredible demand. The same thing happened to Adderall years ago. Was that all junkies that caused that shortage as well?
Where do the script writing drs fall into this? Where do the pain patients fall into this? I know it sucks to be in pain. Trust me I know. I know what it is like not to be able to get the meds that are needed but please stop this blaming of others. Where is the line between pain patient and junkie? I think these drug laws are stupid and have clearly not done anything to fix the situation.
We always seem to need to blame others for our own suffering. If somebody needs pain medication, who am I to judge?
