I am currently experiencing a toothache and have also suffered from bladder infections following a vaginal hysterectomy and bladder sling procedure with pelvic mesh for prolapse, which seems to be causing recurrent infections. I have uti's often as a result of kidney infection is nitrofur a good med. to take? ## Although Nitrofurantoin macrocrystal is commonly used in treating urinary tract infections, it is noted on several webpages that it is not useful for treating kidney infections. can you take Nitrofur Macr 100 Mg & Z Pac together. I have two pills of the Nitrofur left for a bladder infection. I got prescribed a z pac for a horrible cold & sore throat can I take the two antibiotics together? ## Hi Karen, Based on my research, no known interactions exist between Nitrofur Macro (Nitrofurantoin) and Z pack; also known as Zithromax (Azithromycin). However, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. After being on 3 different antibiotics, doc finally put me on nitro fur macr. One capsule before bed 30 days. I have about one week to go and still feeling occasional twinges in bladder area. I am 83 years old. I have been taking this for bladder infection.I am having extreme panic attacks. Is there a difference between Nitrofurantoin Mono/Mac 100 mg capsules and Nitrofurantoin Macro 100 mg capsules? The former is black and yellow with E122 on the front while the latter is gray with Mylan1700 on both sides. ## From what I could gather, both of the pills in question are one in the same drug. i took this drug for four months and had an allergic reaction and now have constant pain in ligament in my hands, is there a lawsuit involving this drug? ## I am not aware of any and, usually, you can't sue for an allergic reaction, because that's not considered the drug manufacturers fault, since they could not possible have predicted that any given person would be allergic to a medication. I have staphyococcus dr gave me nitrofurantn how long before i can see good results ## If it's responding to the antibiotic, there shouldn't be any worsening after 24 hours and you should start to see some gradual improvement in 3 days. i took this drug for three months and have severe pain in hands, ligaments of something, my fingers lock in place and have to be manually released. i wake up because of the pain. it is not in all fingers but the ones affected are extremely painful. pain meds for cancer /radical hystercomy and lymph node removal don't help. is there a class action suit? my cancer center told me to see a dr. about this problem, but i cant afford one ## I am very sorry that you are suffering. I started taking this for a bladder infection. I know the common side effects is the change in stool and urine color. bit private thats why Im posting anonmusly on this post. But my urine has changed to a orange color and my Im constipated. The stool also has a unusual smell. Also expereincing dry mouth. what is this for< I thought it was for a bladder infection ## It is an antibiotic, it is commonly used for bladder infections, but can be used to treat other infections, as well. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea. Is it safe to get a flu shot while take nitrofur macr 100 mg? ## I'm not aware of any issues between the two, but since the flu vaccine can change from year to year, it isn't actually tested against medications. I don't have insurance but I do have an rx discount card. I am on day 3 of nitrofurantion 100mgx4tpd for kidney infection. I have now taken a nasty throat/gland infection and have been prescribed penicillin 500mgx4tpd. Can I take both together or do I need to finish the antibiotic for kidney infection first? ## I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between the two antibiotics and such medications are often prescribed together, if someone has severe infections that are known to respond to different kinds of antibiotics. I have difficulty swallowing large pills or capsules. I removed the three small pills from the capsule, crushed them, and swallowed them with jelly. Is there any problem with this method? ## This is a sustained release formulation of the medication and should not be opened and crushed in this manner, as it may result in too much of the medication being released at once.
