im 25 weeks pregant and i have been taking this medicine for my whole pregancy i have recently found out that my daughter has a lot of problems. which include transposition of the great arteries, holes in her left and right aorta's, an enlarged brain, and her spleen never formed. i have no health problems on my side of the family and my boyfriend doesn't either except for a hole he had an his heart wen he was young. i heard that the nitrofurantoin mono mac 100mg caps can cause women to have miscariages and some have complations could it be because of this medicine? and it says to not take in the third trimester but my doctor i was seeing was to keep taking it my whole way through i dnt know what i should do, should i keep taking it or should i stop. i feel like my baby would be ...

about 20 days ago I had unprotected sex. I'm taking birth control. afterwards I got a terrible uti- so bad my urine was completely concentrated and there was blood in the sample. I could barely urinate, it hurt so bad. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me with nitrofurantoin mono/mac 100mg- twice daily for 10 days. I've taken all those and ended a few days ago. my placebos for my birth control started three days ago and normally I get my period on the second day of my placebos. I may be stressing too much, Im not entirely sure but I'm scared at the same time and I don't know what to do. since my uti was so bad, is there a way my period could be delayed?

I am 15 weeks pregnant I was put on this medication for a UTI 2 capsules a day for 7 days I took 3 doses and didn't think much about mood changes because of being pregnant, after 4th dose I experienced severe vomiting, at the same time my nose was gushing blood, and I became extremely confused and unable to speak anything that made sence, I read possible side effects some included unusual bleeding confusion mood or mental changes severe vomiting. I have just taken my 1st tablet of nitrofuratoin monohyd Mac 100mg & am needing to urinate about every 5 minutes, is this normal? will my body adjust to this as this it is very uncomfortable? ## Hi, Jean! How long does it retain its potency? I am using a Rx dated 2/15/2011 for a UTI. Is it still effective? ## It has most likely lost some of its effectiveness by now. Once the original factory sealed bottle has been opened and they are exposed to the elements, they start to degrade and maximum effectiveness can only be assured for a period of one year from then. I would like to know the side effects of this drug ## Nitrofurantoin can cause nausea and vomiting, fever, rash, hypersensitivity pneumonitis. It can also cause pulmonary fibrosis. I didn't have my medication on me for a day and a half. I was supposed to be taking one pill, two times a day. If I restart taking my medicine is it still going to give me the same results, ridding me of my UTI? ## Hi, Aly! How are you? There's a good chance that you'll need a new prescription to make sure that you eradicate the bacteria that has caused the infection. The antibiotic needs to be maintained in your body at a fairly steady level for the required period of time to properly do its work, any break can usually allow the bacteria to reproliferate. I'm on day 3 of a 7 day course of Nitrofurantoin (4x50mg). After taking my third dose, I experienced what I would describe as 'flu' like symptoms; aches, shivers and general malaise. The next day I felt much better - the 'flu like' symptoms were gone but I still felt a bit nauseous and had diarrhoea. However the symptom I'm most worried about is a cough I've developed. I'm a smoker, bit can't touch a cigarette as I go into spasms of coughing. I'm happy to put up with side effects as my UTI appears to be improving - as long as none of the side effects are considered dangerous. The nausea can be a normal side effect of this antibiotic, however, the hypotension isn't. But the question there is whether or not you've had other side effects from it, such as diarrhea? I have been taking 4 x 50mg of Nitrofuratoin per day for 2 days and yesterday felt much better with my UTI, however, last night I then started to develop a dull ache, tingling slight numbness in my buttocks and my right leg and foot, it comes and goes in the feeling and its not painful or anything and I have felt it before in the past but not sure when. I've been reading though that it can cause serious nerve damage, often permanant so I'm worried. I did call my Doctor first thing this morning but it could be hours before she calls me back. Is it safe to take vitamins with Nitrofur-macr or will they hinder it from working? ## I can't really answer this, without knowing the specifics of what exactly is in the vitamin you are taking. For instance, some types of calcium can affect the absorption of a medication, but not all of them do. Can you post back with more information? If so, I will gladly help you.
