My Dr said I had a UTI, all though I had no symptoms, so put me on a course of nitrofurantion. I started feeling faint, about to pass out, my heart was racing, and I was breathless, I returned to the Dr, and he put me on a higher dose, I felt even worse, and my right eye couldn't focus properly, I ended up in hospital for a week, still having funny turns, but they couldn't find anything wrong with me. And denied it could be the nitrofurantion. My optician checked my eyes ,and said vision in one eye had got worse,I went back after three weeks, and it had gone back to normal,he said it could have been the pills. This was last September, but I still feel absolutely exhausted, and all my muscles feel weak, could it have such a lasting effect. ## Hello, Jean! How are you? I'm sor...

I'm suppose to take this medicine for 3 days twice a day. Is that enough time to clear up my UTI?? ## Hi diamond, According to Wiki, the usual adult dose of nitrofurantoin for a urinary tract infection can be 100 mg two times daily, or 50 mg four times daily for seven days. However, in less severe cases, the dosage can actually be prescribed for as little as 3 days. That should be plenty of time to clear up a UTI if it really is acute. Can i stop taking it or can i take another medication.?Also let me know if I can break the tablet in food. Im very bad at swolling pills i hate it. ## Hello, Vivi! How are you? I'm sorry that you're so miserable. Those are normal side effects of this medication, as listed by the FDA and you should continue taking it, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Taking it with food can sometimes help prevent the stomach pain and nausea. Other side effects may include dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. And yes, you can break them, if necessary, as long as you take the whole tablet. Is there anything else I can help with?

How are you? I'm sorry that you're so miserable. If it isn't expired, it should be okay to take, as long as your doctor approves. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, you may not have enough to finish a full course of treatment, which could create the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, which is another important reason to consult your doctor. I am trying to find out if it is ok to take norco with nitrofurantoin mcr 100 mg. Are there any dangers of mixing the two? ## Hello, Alex! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between the two, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. But these are commonly prescribed together, to treat the possible pain an infection may cause, until the antibiotic can clear it up. The FDA classifies Norco as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is it safe to take antacids, and staten medication with nitrofurant macro ## Hi Puba, I haven't come across any specific details notating that you can't use nitrofurantoin with statin medication. However Walgreens' drug monograph for nitrofurantoin strongly advises against taking any type of antacid that contains "magnesium trisilicate" with it. From what I've read, apparently the magnesium can impact how well nitrofurantoin is absorbed. Their statement goes on to mention that you should double check with a pharmacist in order to ensure whether or not a particular antacid has this ingredient prior to purchasing. Did your doctor recommend that all three types of medications be taken together? ## Thank yiu. No my doctor did not mention taking all 3 together. I do h...

just wondering if on day 5 its ok to drink beer once in awhile ## Hello, Ma! How are you? It is best to abstain from alcohol, when taking any prescription medication. If you read the information provided by the FDA, it can worsen the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual. It can make one drink affect you the same as if you'd had 2 and so on. However, if your doctor okays your indulgence, then please make sure that you won't be driving or operating any dangerous machinery. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was given A weeks dose of nitrofurantoin 100 mg for UTI and on the last 3 days my skin has been uncontrollably itchy. Small bumps, all through out my legs and arms. The itching seems to become more intense at night. Even a day after I've stopped the antibiotics. When will this stop? Should I see a doctor? ## Hi Kristina, Sorry to hear about your situation. Based on my research, the US National Library of Medicine does actually list itching as an allergic reaction from taking nitrofurantoin. Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMHT0011428/?report=details#side_effects However this is something that you should probably contact your doctor about as soon as possible if the symptoms don't go away on their own or become too bothersome/severe (which from your description seems like tha...

I have itchy skin after taking Macrodantin for a week. Is there anything I can do to alleviate this and how long will this itch last, as I have to take the antibiotics for another 3 months? ## Hello, Patti! How are you? If you're getting itchy from it, you should speak to your doctor as you may need to switch to a different antibiotic. The itching could be the sign of an allergic reaction starting and, if that is the case, they just tend to get worse and worse the longer you take the medication, which could put you in danger. Last thursday I went to the doctor & they told me I have a UTI. They put me on Nitrofurantoin 2 pills a day for 7 days. I am on my 6th day and I still have to urinate a lot and there is just some discomfort not as bad as before. It doesn't hurt at all when I urinate like it did. I heard this is a good prescription to be on when having a UTI, but I feel like I should be almost 100% better by now. Will this go away? ## Hello, Amanda! How are you? Yes, the general rule is that you should start to see improvement after 3 days, so by day 6, it should be mostly cleared up. There is a chance that it's just not the right antibiotic to treat your infection, or you may need a longer course of it. Has it cleared up? This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non...
