Soy allemana, (66) and I am for a few month in Mexico and work voluntarily. Now I have got a cold with quite a pain by swallowing, my voice is bad but I feel not terribly ill, have no temperatur and no headache. The doctor gave me a discription for Clamoxin 12 H Amoxicilina Acido Clavulanico 875 mg.125 mg, 20 Tabl. This is Penizilin. Also I got Nimesulida and Loratadina. I was shocked by reading the discripcion of the Penizilin! Because I have no fever, should I risk, taking the Penizilin? I was asked by the people I work for, to see a doctor. I would be pleased to get an answer soon and thank you, Margret Schröder
Hi Margaret, I have exactly the same symptoms as you; I am a teacher working in Mexico for a private school. I saw the doctor today and was prescribed exactly the same as you. I'm fully satisfied with the professionalism of my doctor so I'm not overly concerned about the prescription (not the usual for westerners). However If for whatever reason you have taken a course of Penicillin in your recent medical history, you would be advised against taking this new course for obvious reasons. I hope this helps. Mathew.
Margaret, I have a similar symptoms in Brazil - lost voice, very severe laryngitis but no fever no muscles pain.
My US doctor is strongly against antibiotics (communicated by email) but is he right? What is your experience?
you should not be taking antibiotics for a cold. They are caused by virus; if your immune system do not respond, then you can take antibiotic
