1 REPLY UpdatedI have just been prescribed this for Raynauds. 5mgs 3 times a day. Any idea how long before they begin to take effect? Another sleepless night with the pain from blue fingers. Never known any pain like this. Can't even tie a shoelace. Wearing 2 gloves on the affected hand and a hot water bottle but doesn't seem to be helping. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you doing? Has there been any change? It may take 5 to 6 weeks, before this medication reaches its full level of effectiveness in your body. It's typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension, as reported by the FDA. That's odd for Raynaud's, it usually affects both hands at the same time, or both feet. Are you on an...

2 REPLIES UpdatedI have taken Procardia XL GITS pill for 21 years. When I went on Medicare, they told me they didn't make them anymore. I am on a generic Adalat 60 mg now and have been very aware of my heartbeat ever since November 2012. I tried calling Pfizer and Mylan. They gave me no help. Does anyone know if these pills are still on the market? The pill I was taking is a round pill, medicine embedded in plastic shell with a laser-drilled hole in the center. Please help me if anyone knows where I can get them. ## Based on my research, there haven't been any verifiable claims or FDA announcements regarding the discontinuation of Procardia. So I do wonder if what they told you was even true. Often times Medicare only accepts/covers certain brands or generics, and it may just be that they don...

Some of my toes are black as well. ## Hello, Wendy! How are you? If your toes are black, it is important that you seek medical attention immediately. That could be a sign of the tissue becoming necrotic and without prompt medical treatment, you may lose those digits. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Nifedipine as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry cough and increased urination. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been taking 10mg twice daily for 25 years. My new G.P. has now raised it to 30 mg.once daily after only two high b.p readings. I started with 30 yesterday morning and have felt unwell all day. Also awful headache that I cannot get rid of. I am concerned how long is this going to continue as I have several other health problems. Thanking you. ## Hello, Jane! How are you? All medications carry the risk of causing side effects and it would be normal to experience them again, when the dosage is raised. The FDA lists the ones you've mentioned as being typical for this medication, which contains Nifedipine. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension. It may take 4 to 5 weeks, for the side effects to taper off and go away. If they do not, then you...
1 REPLY Updatedi went to the clinic and was given neurobion and vitamin b6 for chilblains do they help with chilblains? ## Hello, Nachizo! How are you? No, neither of these have been known to help. The generally advisory for treatment is to keep the affect areas warm, avoid any extreme temperature changes, keep them dry, use a topical steroid cream to relieve itching, vitamin D and calcium supplements have been said to help some people. As to medications, a vasodilator, such as Nifedipine or Diltiazem can help. The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, increased urination and hypotension. Were you seen by a doctor, or just a nurse?

1 REPLY Updatedcould it cause aching hips and legs ## Hello, Bertygerm! How are you? This is listed as containing the active ingredient Nifedipine, which the FDA classifies as a calcium channel blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. And yes, it can cause that as a side effect, in some people that take it, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and weight gain. However, side effects will typically improve in about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. If they don't, or if they worsen, you should consult your doctor as you may need to switch to a different medication. Are there any other questions or concerns?
1 REPLY UpdatedHave been taking NIFEDIPINE ER 60 MG for years and my pharmacy is now supplying a pill NIFEDIPINE ER 60 MG which is a mustard yellowpill round much smaller and with markings of B on one side and 60 on other. Are these tablets identical as have been able to find any info and could be coincidence but my breathing has become much worse ## Hello, Eugene! How are you? Yes, that is the correct medication, this tablet also contains 60mgs of Nifedipine in a time released formulation. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, stomach pain and headache. When was the last time your blood pressure was checked? If you're having trouble breathing, you need to have it checked out, because that may be a sign of congestive heart failure.
1 REPLY UpdatedI accidentally have my husband 60 mg of nifedipine twice today. Will it hurt him? ## How is he doing? Did he suffer any adverse effects? Anytime something like this happens, it is best to contact the prescriber, or poison control to be sure of the person's safety. While there are those of us online that are happy to help, if we can, we cannot administer life saving procedures, if they'd be needed. Doubling up on a medication such as this could cause hypotension and dangerously lowered heart rate.
1 REPLY UpdatedHi, my mom just got her blood pressure 180/100, she took one 5mg @ 7pm then we checked her after 3 hrs but still got the same reading. She again took a 5mg. Is it OK? How long is the right interval and how long should it take effect? ## Hello, Necromex! How is she doing? These medications don't work that fast, it will take a few days before they start lowering her blood pressure and about a month, before they reach their full efficacy level in her body. So no, she can't keep taking one, checking it and then taking another. What instructions did her doctor provide with the medication?
1 REPLY UpdatedI'm 41, I have suffered in winter for many years from bad circulation, or so I thought! Until I visited the doctor, I regularly suffer from chill blains, my fingers and toes turn white with cold, and then as they warm up, turn Blue The bright red then all pins and needles which is quite painful. I recently visited the doctor for something else and happened to mention about my fingers and toes wheni got cold, that's when she informed that I was suffering from Raynauds Phenomenon, where the blood vessels in my extremities close up blocking blood supply to the the ends of my fingers and toes. She told me about Nifedipine, which opens up the blood vessels allowing free flowing blood, I thought great, I'll give it a go! She did warn me of the side effects, head aches, nausea, diz...
2 REPLIES UpdatedIs it ok to take Nifedipine ER and Bystolic at the same time? ## Hello, Bhey68! How are you? Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker and the Nebivolol in the Bystolic is a beta blocker, these types of medications are often combined, because it increases their blood pressure lowering effects. Has your doctor prescribed both? Learn more Nifedipine ER details here. Learn more Bystolic details here. They may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.
1 REPLY UpdatedCan you take 2 the same day? ## Hello, Jose! How are you? 90mgs of the regular release Nifedipine is the maximum recommended daily dosage. Learn more Nifedipine details here. Is that the amount your doctor has prescribed? If it isn't controlling your condition, you may want to speak to them about switching to the time released formulation, which can go as high as 120mgs per day, or an additional medication may need to be added.
1 REPLY UpdatedI was diagnose with high blood pressure (BP) about ten years ago (at 40 years) and my doctor prescribe Atenolo 50 mg which I used for about three years. Then my doctor added nifedipine 20mg which I am now taking for about seven years. About two years now I feel dizzy when I stand for some time and when I check my BP I am getting low reading example, 104/65, 95/60/, 112/75. My doctor did kidney's and diabetic's blood test which he said was ok. About one year ago I was diagnose with diabetics but it is under control. I reduce the nifedipine 20mg to 10 and later 5mg but still get the dizzy feeling at times. When I exercise(walking) 4-7Km every other day my BP even go down lower. My concern is when stand for some time with little movements I feel dizzy due the low BP at that time. O...
2 REPLIES UpdatedWhy would i react with nausea, swelling, rash to 30 mg Nifidical xl when only swelling was a reaction with 90 mg nifidipine Er? ## There is a chance that you reacted to one of the inactive ingredients, or it may not have been related to the medication, at all. Learn more Nifedipine details here. Have you consulted your doctor about it? Have you had any other symptoms, such as problems breathing, especially when laying down at night?
1 REPLY UpdatedIs Nifedipine ER 60mg TER, a light pinkish tablet with KU261 on one side, and a small hole in the middle of the other side, the same manufacturer as Nifedipine ER 60 mg, a darker pink tablet with M 060 on one side, and a small hole in the middle of the other side? ## Hi Ann, To answer your question, both of the pills in question are one in the same drug. The only difference I noticed is that they are manufactured by different companies ("KU 261" is manufactured by Kremers Urban & "M 060" is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc.) Because of this, there may be a slight variation of inactive ingredients; but other than that you can be assured that they are the same drug and same dosage. NOTE: Certain "inactive" ingredients that may or may not be present in ...
