New White Watson 853 10/325 Problem - What Is Going On!? (Page 6) (Top voted first)

Updated

Hello all, I am a longtime chronic pain sufferer. I have taken opiates for pain for over 10 years. I recently got a prescription filled (from a well known pharmacy chain in the U.S.) and I was given these new Watson 853 white (not yellow) hydro 10/325 pills. I wanted to ask the forum here if any of you have had the same experience with them as I have. I know there are some very smart people with advanced chemistry knowledge here that may have delved deeper into whats going on with these things. They are ineffective for me. I've taken hydrocodone 10/325 for 10+ years and have never ever had a problem with pills being ineffective but that is the case with these pills. I've had about every brand you can think of and never an issue. Ever. I thought nothing of the color change when I got the pills home from the pharmacy... I've had the yellow Watson 853's before and figured they just changed the coloring. I've seen people complain before about differences in brands before, but I've never experienced anything like that.... Mallies, Watson, Qualitst... all the same to me. I didn't start looking around for answers until I noticed these pills were not working well at all. Something is 100% wrong. Based on some initial research I do see that they have taken the yellow dye out but there are other reports from people with the same issues as I see. Obviously you just don't know how reputable some of these reports are... I've seen posts talk about pharmacists telling the patient that the pills now are structured to release hydrocodone slower (even though its an IR pill... what?)... that Actavis/Watson employees have claimed there could be "kinetic imbalances" in their formulation when upset customers have called them... etc. The only truth I know is that there is something amiss with these things. Any response would be appreciated from you guys.... experiences/info/links to other similar reports, etc. This is the most frustrating thing I have ever run into and it just doesn't make much sense to me at the moment with whats going on....and the implications this could have if these pills have been truly altered by the manufacturer in some way. I know it doesn't mean much to just say it on an internet forum, but I'm not the type to cry wolf over something like this. I realize it could be a bad batch I've received, but it looks initially like the problem is more widespread. TIA for any responses to this thread! I came here because I believe this site has people that have the intelligence/knowledge to get to the bottom of it. Again, any info at all in relation to this would be appreciated greatly.

In my case since activist bought out watson I could no longer absorb the new pills due to one of the 20+ inactive ingredients and had to switch to name brand. Main problem is most pharmaceutical companies have moved over seas due to legal suits and they do not have to meet the 21% required active medication in the pills. I tried almost every generic through every pharmacy too yet to no avail, absolutely nothing happened. So I had to switch to name brand which cost me $15 a pill which was absurd......until recently my pharmacist recommended another manufacturer. Speak to your pharmacist they can special order for patients who are having these problems. And maybe these companies over seas will be put out of business. Who knows what crap they are putting in there. It's bad enough we have to poison our bodies with pharmaceuticals just to be able to function, grocery, cleaning, take care of our kids, work, etc. Good luck to everyone with this issue. Please advise your pharmacist and doctors. Most pharmacist will be more aware than your doctor so please communicate with them and the experienced ones will try to help. Good luck.

BigPharmaMessingWithOurMeds, if you want to get the increase, the Prior Authorization will have to be approved. Maybe you can decrease the amount that you take daily or every few days, so you will have some left to cover the time it takes for the PA. Some pharmacist don't believe that there is much, if any difference, and some do. There is no way for a pharmacist to know when or if an order is going to come in. Chances are the pharmacist said FDA and/or DEA. The active ingredients for generics have to be the same as the are for brands. But, if a med says 10 mg for a brand, it has 10 mg in it. If a generic says 10 mg, it can have anywhere from 8 mg-12 mg in it. A lot of people that take these generic meds regularly believe that until the past few yrs, the active ingredients were 10 mg-12 mg and in the past few yrs they are have decreased to 8 mg or closer to it.

BigPharmaMessingWithOurMeds, we do view things differently as we get older. The commercials about people that fall and can't get up have taken on a whole new meaning in recent yrs. Problems with your feet can make everything else so much worse. April is a severe weather month for us with lots of rain and tornados and we are still trying to recover from severe flooding in March.

I feel the same way. Have taken for years. The white ones don't touch my pain. It's really hard to find the yellow ones anymore, but when I do I get the yellow ones. Something is wrong with the white ones. I don't know how that can get away with this making people suffer with pain. They have to know what's going on.

I agree no one should have to hurt. That's not in dispute. What is being disputed is what is the legally acceptable variables of ingredients in medications. Of course the more meds you are on and for a lengthy period of time you are not going to get the same relief as you did in the beginning. However, if you think there aren't pharmaceutical companies out there skimping on drugs then you are seriously misinformed or in denial. This has been going on for years! Including cancer meds, antibiotics, pain meds, etc... There have been plenty of exposes, journal articles and investigations to prove this. Please don't presume someone is not getting the same relief, cure or whatever because they have been on that type of med too long or take too much. That is not normally the case. Besides, at the end of the day we are all different as are our bodies and the way we react to meds. The relief or remedy you get from something may not be the same as I do.

I have a watson 853Script myself and i have noticed certain times the medication will work better and other times not i admitingly take 2 to take my pain down but of course have to be careful as i hate running out early i also have a morphine sulfate 30mg twice daily to help keep the pain level down awaiting a fusion of my l3and l4 last may they were off 5 and 8milimeters now still working they are permanatly damaged afraid but needing the surgury but can still tell the diffrence regularly when those dam hydros have been skimped unfortunately none of us can do a dam thing about it except be thankful we can obtain anything from the goverment in my own mind better than being in complete pure 100% agony of pain with no relief AtALL let me know if somebody can convince the dea. to allow all 10mg. Of hydro codone in every pill by law and the pharmaceutical BUSINESSes to actually abide by law behind closed doors to actually do this never gonna happen even if it was law money is to powerful in this world we chronic pain suferers just gotta deal with it and not think about it.

I completely agree. The people that really need these meds get treated kind of rudely at the pharmacy . I got into a terrible car accident 2 years ago and suffer with chronic pain now. So I have to take them but i have noticed certain brands of the meds so not work as well. They all should work the same.

I believe also that the prescriptions and the manufacturers these days are very different. I also have been suffering from pain and didn't pay attention 10 years ago about the manufacturer because the pain was always taken care of by my prescription. But now they seem to be either less effective or too cheap the way there making them now. I don't know, all I know is that there not helping my pain, and are making me dizzy.

It's been my experience that since the changes to this product , they are not as effective. There are even some side effects that I experience that are new for me even though I've been taking the this medication for quite some time

You're correct serious concern! It's happened with all narcotic analgesics not just hydrocodone. We the suffering Americans are the latest victim of our governments failed war on drugs

TERRIE, the drug companies are Not going to stop making hydrocodone/acetaminophen combination meds or any other immediate release meds. Many drs have started prescribng extended release pain meds for chronic pain patients because they manage the pain better. There will always be a large market for immediate release pain meds and extended release pain meds.

I received a watson white 853 tablet which made me sleepy and no pain relief whatsoever. The pharmacy said it's the same thing we always sell, but it's not providing relief and causing drowsiness. This has to be stopped. I cant taste color but every other Norco manufacturer doesn't have this problem. Make them all white but include the real medication. Thank you.

I have read your post & I appreciate your truthfulness. Have you found anymore information since your post?
I have not been able to leave the house due to feeling sick, no energy but mostly because if the severe pain.
I couldn't have said it better than you did in your post. I am experiencing the exact same situation. I am sure my doctor won't give me another prescription for at least 3 more weeks. I dont know what to do at this point. I need any & all advise I can get.
I don't know how to deal with this pain. I can't do anything but stay in bed. How can this be allowed? I am suffering for no reason. The doctor & pharmacy have the abilities to alienate the pain but will not.
I have taken vicodin & now norcos for over 16 years. Without informing me that it has change & that I may experience some difference in the new forumal is so wrong of these professionals. The only humans who can understand & have compassion are probably those whom like myself are suffering.
What do I do now? If these Norcos are to remain this way & give no relief then what will? I have gotten information as to other medications becoming time released as well.
I was not 100% of the person I use to before all of this pain. However I was maybe the best I have been since I've been living with the pain. Now they have taken that away from me & made me unproductive to live in a state of painful suffering again.
How is this right , how is this humane & what is to be done about this?
I suffer from depression as well because of my pain level &:because I have had to grieve over the loss of who I was has died. I just don't think I can take much more & I can't live like this. I am a burden on others now as well as to myself.
This inhumane restructure of pain management is unacceptable & even more so because the so called professionals have changed life entirely without even informing those they have effected. What gives them the right to destroy so many lives both of those in pain as well as their loved ones that now they are depend on?
I need answers please.
Thanks
Alison

Hello, I've been on the yellow pills in the past and yes like others they worked with no problem. I suffer with a lot of pain. I had breast cancer on both sides, been in a car accident not long ago, had surgery on my foot and I've taken the white pills 10/325. My body is in so much pain I've taken these white pills praying the pain will go away in tears. I can't sleep. If anyone has information how we all can get help please pass on any information. It's a shame how this company is cutting corners and billing our insurance and we still have to suffer with pain. Everyone isn't a abuser or addict to pills. People in pain need help or change us back to something that really works!

Pops, you need to google the Hatch-Waxman act of 1984 passed by our FDA and educate yourself because you are misinformed. The Hatch Waxman act allows generics to contain up to plus or minus 20% of the active ingredient in name brand medications. Obviously, generic manufacturers are taking advantage of this, as evidenced by most generic pain medications being much weaker than the brand equivalent. I had to switch to name brand Percocet due to this, and it works very well for me. So no, none of this is just in people's heads, it's a proven fact. Look up those facts and learn something before attacking those of us in pain looking for real answers to the issue of not receiving relief from our generic pain medications, and not knowing the reason why.

There is definitely a difference in the 325. Not effective. Also 325/10 not effective. I've been taking these pills for 10 years. I thought I was crazy that I'm still in pain but after reading all this other input WHAT IS GOING ON?

Yes something has to be done. I thought was going crazy too until I read all the comments. I took 2 watson 853 tablets. They did nothing. I have kidney stones and several other medical issues. If I don't get some relief soon I will loose my house as I cant even work as much as I need and want to. They're killing us all. I'd like to hear this on national news or something, like come on guys/gals, we're in pain not using recreationally; at least that's my case. Dr.S act retarded like your crazy and say they cant prescribe anything stronger. I am screwed. My pain is only getting worse as I write.
