New To Eliquis - Side Effect Question

Updated

DVT's in calf, had one 10 yrs ago, just found a other 2 or 3(had Charley horse that wouldn't go away, so went to ER). Had Lovenox shots in hospital, sent home with Eliquis starter pack ..had headache & dizziness 1st day, now diminished, but have breast sensitivity, indigestion & a little itchiness. Follow up with doc scheduled in a week. Have not seen breast sensitivity or indigestion (belching) listed as a side effect, wondering if anyone else having same effects. Not happy about all the side effects I have read people are experiencing....mental spaciness & confusion concern me, i have felt a bit spacey....Did lovenox/warfarin route 10 yrs ago, was happy to hear Eliquis doesn't require weekly blood draws, but now wondering if lovenox/warfarin would have been better choice.

I was on Coumadin for many years like you. I have tried Elequis twice now. First time shortness of breath. Dr didn’t believe me so they did Anhishram. After angiogram, mo blockage. I asked do you think Elequis caused shortness of breath. Again they said no went back on Elequis again within weeks I had the same symptoms. Needless to say I am once again going back to Coumadin. Don’t like the lovonox for bridging but I will take that rather than having constant side effects. Talked to a pulmonologist. Advised me to talk to doctor befor just stopping. Bridging to Coumadin can be don with Zaralto.

Thanks.. 4th day on Eliquis pack, mild tingling sensation, other side effects seem to have dissipated. I am going to stay on it at least through starter pack & will discuss with doc & hematologist.

Well I have been on this Eliquis for just over 3 years I was initially put on it for Atrial Fibrillation. The doctor gave me 8-10 pages of information on taking it and must say it wouldn't have been so bad for anyone without medical knowledge. I read it over and over again and then saw doctor who asked me "do you or don't you want to go on it". I agreed to it and really wish I had never gone on it. Since taking it I've had the worst Irritable Bowel problems, Insomnia which is out of control, itching all over especially through the head, cold sensation in feet and legs, waking up boiling hot with perspiration dripping off head and neck, toothache type pain in fingertips, and now to make matters worse I have Atrial Fibrillation on and off during the day.

One of the most annoying factors since starting this drug is that it acts like a diuretic so for the first hour and half I could see for Britain then of course it all starts over again at her time. I know of another 3 people who I didn't tell I was taking this drug and they all have same symptoms as myself so it's not made up. What angers me is that when I first went on it I had Renal Functions done but now the bloods are out on the back burner apparently they are no longer required so if you don't pester your doctor he/she will get no fee back on how this drug is doing.
Today, funnily enough, I feel terrible so come Monday I am putting on an appointment to see doctor as there is something not quite right.
Regarding feeling foggy this is a definite yes.

Wow, so sorry you have to deal with all of that. I certainly hope you go to the doc & talk about alternatives. I opted for Eliquis because of the no weekly blood draws, and the side effects listed did not seem any worse than most drugs, although I was concerned about the black box warning on bleeding which I didn't see before I said yes I see now how a lot of people are suffering on this drug, and am hopeful that I only need to be on it short term. The side effects for me are diminishing, but I do have a bit of itching. Just took another dose, this is only day 5 for me. Good luck to you.

I would recommend hydroxyzine for itching. This is a non drowsy drug that helps with the itching. I've had it for years due to bad ecxema.
