New Subutex Laws (Page 8)
UpdatedI went to see my doctor this week and he told me that the FDA and the DEA had passed a new law for prescribing Subutex. As of July 1st 2015 Subutex can only be given to pregnant woman or to someone with documentation saying they can't take Suboxone. If you don't have that you will be put on Suboxone.
Methadone, suboxone.....the withdrawal is all basically the same. With methadone and suboxone, it takes longer to "get going", and seems to last longer. But opioid withdrawal is opioid withdrawal. I've been through it ALL. Sucks arse.
I've been on subutex for 3 years and there have been no changes so your doctor is giving you wrong information
Methadone works much better for me than Subutex/Suboxone does. Everyone is different and has different needs. I never did very well on Subutex.
Hey Jim, I would think that being an LPN and also having your BA in psychology you would know the difference between subutex and suboxone, right? Oh and I would also think someone as educated as you obviously are would get their facts straight before they made themself look like a pompous, self-righteous jerk off that you obviously are. But I just think you're full of crap. Have a nice day.
Ya know, I to this day haven't seen anything about this saposed new law..nothing even posted! Everything I've heard is what others have said.. Now, I think the person that told me wouldnt be fibbing, but she too could be miss lead. so I tend to agree with you. This change of law about subutex isn't so. Anyway, I still get them so I'm happy!
I'm a chronic pain patient and on methadone for that plus hydrocodone and went cold turkey in jail work NO-ONE to care. Tried to strangle myself so I know the feeling
SKIP: Yes, the jails are a joke. When they take you into custody, they are agreeing to "care" for you, which includes medically. Yet they have corrections officers making medical decisions for people. Now, if you are only doing illegal drugs, I can understand them not doing much. BUT....if a person is on a medically prescribed ORT (opiate replacement therapy) then the fact that they just let you go cold turkey is nothing short of CRIMINAL. My husband works in the Colorado State Senate, and they are working on a bill to make the jails keep people on WHATEVER they are already on as prescribed by a doctor. This would include methadone and buprenorphine. I went to jail over what turned out to be a complete mix up, when I was on Subutex. They didn't give a damn. It was on a Friday night, and I couldn't even get arraigned until Monday. So for the whole weekend I had NOTHING. I was prescribed Subutex by a doctor, but they didn't give a damn. This bill would make ANY and ALL medications prescribed by a doctor a requirement. The jails would be required to continue giving the person whatever they are already on. Jails should not be making medical decisions for people, ESPECIALLY deciding NOT to give them meds they are prescribed currently. I mean, if someone was on insulin, would they just NOT give that to someone? Of course not. But because the person is on something meant to treat addiction, they just say "screw it", as if it isn't medically necessary. Which is absolutely LUDICROUS.
BOB: Oh NO!! Please don't tell me "JIM" is back!! What a complete loser that guy is. Let's cruise forums regarding drug addiction and rip on the addicts in order to make ourselves feel better!! UGH I hope you are wrong. What a D.bag!
Ya, I have to agree with you, I've been through w/d's to many times to count, a couple of times coming off oxycontin over 500mg. a day it was really bad I can't began to describe, then I went to the methadone clinic dosing at 145 a day, got in a little trouble with the law (due to my addiction) withdrew cold cold turkey in jail, there aren't any worse withdraws than coming off that much. They even brought it to the jail where they put me on a 7 day reduction, I didn't sleep for 15 day's, a good month before I was somewhat better. We that's been back in 2009. I'm now living in a different state, and currently going to a good pm Dr. Got me on dilaudid 8mg. and morph 30mg. guard them with my life.. I know everyone detoxes different, but I'll never forget that month in a Texas jail...
Hey, are you guys thinking I am Jim? I hope not... It's really me, Mary.. Seriously!! I'm Mary from Indiana. If you do think I'm Jim and what I say is upsetting you...Sorry, didn't think I was saying anything wrong.
Mary
Bob, jim, robert are all conected names like charles chuck chas....just to fire the flameing arrow into his ass...
This is true. We need to write a letter to Governor Bill Haslam and ask him to remove the bill. It is called Bella's law and is over babies being born addicted to drugs. The law makes no sense and was written by a man who is no longer in house. He actually went to jail for d.u.i. We as users of the medication are the only ones who can change the law back we need letters written to Governor Bill Haslam. There are many doctors and pharmacist on board as well. The other part of the law states we are only allowed 18 months of suboxone treatment now. Which means u have to stop ur recovery after 18 months. Write them to stop this law. It has not went completely thru yet.
At my doctors, its a three year program. Though I take them for pain management now...at first was due to addition. Again, I take subutex, not suboxon.. Don't know if this makes a difference.
Peace
Mary , if you're being prescribed subutex for drug addiction treatment, but you take it for pain management, when they find out they won't treat you any longer and no other dr will treat you for pain because you have a history of being treated for addiction.
BL...Not true! In my case
Now, this is something my doctor and I discuss only. He has told me many times that this will help in your pain management. So, if you mean is it legal or if the government get wind that I'm using for pain management.. Don't know, is this what you mean? But, yes..my doctor knows I'm using for pain management. I have told him many times I don't ever want to have to go back on pain medication. Hydro's etc.
Thanks..Mary
BL,
I am concerned for the future where I'm concerned. Not sure what I will do after the 3 years is up. What does happen in this case? I have no clue!
July 1st it changes..nationwide.
Mary, if your dr is treating you for drug addiction although he knows that you're taking it for pain management, he is not doing you any favors. When the three years are up, you won't be able to find a dr that will treat you for your pain because you have a history of addiction. It is highly doubtful that the dr that is treating you now will continue treating you in the same manner when the 3 years are up for the same reason. Even if he does, when the time comes and he moves, retires, or decides that he no longer wants to do it, you won't be able to find anyone that will manage your pain. So like I said, your current dr isn't doing you any favors.
Mary, you also need to keep in mind that he hasn't written it in your medical records that you're taking it for pain management. If he knows that you're taking it for pain management and not addiction, then he shouldn't be treating you for addiction.
