New Subutex Laws (Page 7) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI went to see my doctor this week and he told me that the FDA and the DEA had passed a new law for prescribing Subutex. As of July 1st 2015 Subutex can only be given to pregnant woman or to someone with documentation saying they can't take Suboxone. If you don't have that you will be put on Suboxone.
It's not the same as "giving gin to an alcoholic" you dont seem to understand how these drugs work, they dont make u feel high. bupenorphine is only a partial agonist and blocks full agonist like morphine and oxycodone from working, there by not making u feel high when u take them. its quite clever. Im sure if there was something they could give an alcohlic that would block the effects of alcohol they would be giving it. Oh yeah Naltrexone which they do prescribe long term. I just think your ignorant on how bupenorphine works. It's defiantly a miracle drug. Oh by the way both subutex and suboxone block the effects of other opiates and i dont think there is that much difference between the two. Naloxone does seem to have much effect. The only difference i notice is suboxone makes me sweat
well hell as far as I know that's how its always worked to begin with so nothing to new for me.
no that's no how it always worked.
Hello Michael:
I get Subutex and I am not pregnant nor am I allergic. With that being said, so addicts are addicts because doctor's keep ppl like vets, ppl with injuries and people who really don't need them doped up with narcotics. Now, at least one VA in Ohio, is cutting all veteran's off VERY strong narcotics off their meds. I'm speaking of narcotics like methadone, oxycontin, oxycodone, morphine sulfate, fentanyl...I think you get the point. Thus, my husband when kicked off (not tapered down) well I guess if you call being prescribed 10 Methadone pills a day and 10 5mg oxycodone and then told I will give you one prescription of MS Contin of 22 pills and then being told he was not a good candidate for the narcotic rehabilitation program because he has horrible chronic pain it makes one wonder. In any case, they are still prescribing subutex and it is NOT the same thing as suboxone. Subutex is w/out a blocker and is a mild pain reliever. I commend you for getting off the horrible drugs above. But, both types of Subs are being abused. Actually, we are 6 days off regular pain meds (both legitimately prescribed) and have began tapering off of the Subutex. I don't recommend taking Subutex for a long time because it is trading one drug off for another; however, it is better then what you were taking just be careful. You seem smart just know you will withdrawal from coming off of both. That's why it is not recommended long term. Now, there are doctors that push it just for the money that will tell you otherwise but the decision is yours. Good luck with everyone and their sobriety!!
Actually, ppl do abuse both. In the town I live in there are ppl doing this and ppl who truly don't need it. It's gross! I get doing it the proper way because cold turkey is hell and you need time.
Jim: Lastly, for you....and to throw it out there I have 3 degrees and was the one in the previous thread that indicated that NO they are NOT the same thing. Saying one should just quit, to get a life and basically you shouldn't be a junkie is ludicrous. Let me take a sledge hammer and nail you in the back. Since, I'm a female give me 5-7 swings and see if you don't take a freaking pain pill. Because, I'm a soldiers wife, a heroes wife, a wife of a member of the Elite 82nd Airborne Unit as a Paratrooper and Parachute Rigger. However, during a jump they weren't to be jumping that day. The Airforce even advised the paratrooper's they weren't jumping because the wind knots where too high. Well, with that being said, there was a huge ranking officer that over ruled and said BS we are jumping or I lose my status and have to go back through training. So, guess what? They jumped because he out ranked them all. Well, don't know if you've had the balls to ever jump out of a plane for your country or for pleasure (husband was hurt on a combat related mission)? But, when you jump at low altitude you don't have much control of your chute. So, you land where you land. He landed directly on concrete (the runway). A Marine hit in front of him and destroyed his elbow and my husband trying to do a PLF landed on his back so now he has two ruptured discs in his L3-L5, Degenerative disc disease, one of his hips sit up higher then the other, pain going down his leg and lastly depression and anxiety because he was a stellar athletic (could dunk a basketball, can you?) and can't walk certain distances without having to take a break. Sadly, the VA doesn't take great care of there ppl. So, rest assure there is probably way more then what we don't know. So, we've decided to go to an civilian neurosurgeon to find out the other issues he is having. So, yeah, not everyone wakes up like a drug addict or junkie, crack head (whatever you choose to call him and every other addict) speaks volumes to what kind of care you would provide to your patient's and that's why there are jerks that are nurses like you and nurses who can perform there job with compassion and without prejudice.
Subutex was took off the market in TN on July the 1st. TN was the 1st and I thought only state so far that had done such. Now if your pregnant you can't still get them OR I'd you live in TN I know that 2 methadone clinics that have subutex and will not be getting rid of it. One is in Chattanooga at volunteer the others in Knoxville at DRD. Expensive though untill you get take homes.
I agree 100%. Suboxen makes me get hives and awful headaches. I have been on subutex for years and it saved my life.
Yes john TN just passed that law. Do some research instead of asking a Dr. If your not from TN, you have nothing to worry about yet. I'm in a methadone clinic, they told me they was keeping subutex but you can no longer get a prescription from a Dr. In TN, you can get you from the methadone clinic if you have take homes. Call around in TN and ask if you can get in and get subutex, they will say no suboxone ONLY NOW.
The law if only affect in the state on TN, but I'm afraid more states will follow they always do. I live in TN, they closed all subutex only clinics on July the 1st. This is only Tenneessee so far anyway.
First I'm a lady, second your Dr. Does not know what he's talking about. Read this form these message after message about this law that went into affect July 1st 2015. I know it's hard to believe and it sucks!!! I swear it's the truth. There's more info. In the suboxone thread then subutex thread? Beats me. Dude it's true. Didn't mean to sound snippy but I know what I'm talking about.
Hey john, your dr. Still laughing now? Seeing more states has passed this law? I'm not being mean but I told you so.
Well you better enjoy while you can, and I'd search the surrounding states in case they've not passed it yet. You are lucky your states not passed that law YET. All I can say is (wait for it) but I do hope you can get it as long as you can. With that all the people on this board are not i****s, be more opened minded. Goodluck
Jim,
Your lying about your education. Esp. If you was what you where calming you would have a better understanding of addiction. I wonder what brought you to this form if you did not want , or need to know some thing about a certain drug? If you have nothing better to do then come on a open form and put people down, then man you must be a Lonley MF , with NO life. Get a grip Jim and quit being a cyber bully. Lol
BL trust me the suboxone laws are real. Went into affect on July the 1st. 2015, only place you can still get them and it's legal is certain methadone clinics. No you don't have to be pregnant or allergic to anything.
I hear ya. its hard. Especially in the situation you are in with your job and the kids and all. I get it. So is the problem that the suboxone is a lot more expensive than the subutex? And as we know from this thread, they arent handing out the subutex like they used to, correct? At this point, it sounds like you need to do whatever u can to get off those drugs. So you may just have to bite the bullet and buy the subs. {edited for privacy}
I'm sorry. I tried to give you my personal email, but the site wouldn't let me. That's why my response below says "edited for privacy". What part of the country are you in? I wanted to try to help you. I understand you having to use, more than you can even know. Hang in there. You are at least wanting to do the right thing, which is not always easy.
Ya it definitely is a pain in the ass, I'm in Pennsylvania, the really horrible thing is the pharmacist will blatantly lie 2 me & say they don't have them or they have to check with mi doctor & then the next place will tell me about the laws & say "I'm going to be truthful with you" and she explained the new law. Y couldn't the 1st 7 or 10 pharmacist tell me that , would have saved me 40$ in gas. Lol.
so have you been able to get any subs? Here in denver we have some great suboxone doctors, and the pharmacies are fairly easy to deal with. i feel very bad for you, having to resort to the very thing you are trying to avoid. hang in there. ugh, i wish u were in denver.
TryingToDoTheRightThings, are you sure that you spoke to a pharmacist at the other drug stores ? Not everyone that deals with prescriptions or are behind the pharmacy counter is a pharmacist. Those that fill Schedule II prescriptions are Registered Pharmacists, but you can't always be sure unless you see them filling your prescriprion or you see their picture on the pharmacy wall identifying them.
Ya because the "help" went right to them & asked them & showe'd them the script like they never heard of it or tell didn't know what to say so they pit it on the pharmacist
