I understand completely what you're saying. I don't abuse drugs, I am diagnosed & take as I should. They have tried all kinds of other drugs to avoid Xanax, but other meds just gave me terrible side effects and/or didn't control my severe panic attacks & social phobia. I don't take these for fun, I can't function w/o them. It runs in my mom's family. My grandmother died in mental institution - I don't want to do the same. Excuse me for wanting a life. It's sad to be judged as an abuser by people who don't even know me or my situation, even worse when doctors won't prescribe what works best with least side effects because of prejudice or fear of govt.

i'd like to have the referral to the doctor who you say can prescribe alprozolam (xanax), i'm in a dire need of the medication, it seems to be the only medication that clears my head, while i understand it is addicting, but i believe in moderation and taking it as prescribed. i'm able to eat, complete mundane tasks, and work with the help of this drug. hopefully you can help

thanks. kyle

I could not agree more. I am in my early 40's and have had social anxiety for most of my life. Without Xanax I would be either a recluse or abusing alcohol. I do not abuse xanax and it enables me to have a normal life.

Dr Friedman in commack ny. He is just to the point and if you have documentation of your pain/ injuries, that's helpful. Also telling him what you've been prescribed previously.

Ya'all looking for docs to prescribe you Xanax or any other benzo for anxiety/panic disorder, you are probably better off checking out a psychiatrist first. In my very small community, that seems to be what people are ending up doing. Plus, you will probably have better luck with a psychiatrist since these MEDS are used a lot in their specific practice of medicine. I have heard docs tell patients all the time, " I will not prescribe any of your 'psych' MEDS, you will have to see a psychiatrist for that..." Meaning benzo's. Good luck. I know how debilitating anxiety can be! I feel for you!

sick and tired and Dr Joey are full of s***. If you scroll through the thread sick and tired is constantly suckling up to Dr Joey and continually complains about addicts looking for drugs. 1. You have NO idea what other people are going through. If people are looking for doctors for specific needs (90% of the people in this thread. ..SO WHAT? It doesn't automatically make them addicts. ..and it is rude to imply such without proof. If you don't LIKE what purple are saying in this thread....START YOUR OWN THREAD.....the original post "I need help finding a doctor to prescribe me xanax".....that is what this discussion is going to be about.....deal with it or move on.

As for Dr Joey......why is it that you seem to post CONSTANTLY...just talking BS about how great you are and and your prescribing practices. ....GUESS WHAT...people in this thread don't give a rats ass about your MD and PhD. Again....the thread isn't for you to denigrate people that are trying to find a physician. For someone that is SO BUSY doing the right thing.....you sure seem to find A LOT of free time trolling this thread...we don't care and don't want to hear about it.

Dr Joey and sick and tired need to start their own thread so they can continue to stroke their massive egos someplace else.

I don't know why you guys are here seem to post so much.

I know because I started this thread....so I get a reminder every time you two post.

Your posts are enough to cause the rest of us to need a fu***** xanax.

Once you are incorrectly labeled as a drug abuser or 'diverter' and dropped by a doctor - I'm not gonna lie, you are going to have a very difficult time.
BTW Doctors use a formula deciding what should be in your system based on med, dosage, weight, age, person's metabolism and activity levels (that's a lot that can go wrong! How do they know your metabolic rates w/o any tests?) Go to next doctor, tell what happened honestly, throw yourself on their mercy and volunteer for frequent random drug tests if the MD will give you a chance. I'll be praying for you.

It may take hospitalization or repeated Emergency Room visits before a doctor will listen to you and give you a chance to prove the symptoms you experience without your medication. I'm sorry this has happened to you.
Most states are harassing doctors about prescribing Xanax and even threatening them. I know a clinic where govt ORDERED the psychiatrists to switch all patients to Klonopin or lose their licenses, clinic be shut down. TRUE STORY.
Had one 'family' doctor just out of school try to tell me that "Ativan and Xanax are the same thing", which is a crock. I've cooperated and tried all their meds (Paxil too, etc). Only Valium and Xanax control my symptoms. Example: Ativan puts me to sleep and then I still have panic attacks. AND if they are the 'same' thing, why does he like to prescribe Ativan instead of Xanax? Why would it matter if they are 'the same thing'. Because they chemically are different even tho both are benzodiazepines.
I gave Ativan to help cancer patients with nausea during Chemo. Never heard of Xanax helping nausea. 20 yrs ago I watched cancer patients die in pain because doctors afraid to prescribe pain meds, 'they'll get addicted" - Seriously? Dying people?
Same witchhunt here. Rich people get multiple meds, large doses, anything they want - and they ARE abusing them. Some people abuse drugs so people who really need them, the reason the drugs were made, should not have access to them?
THAT'S JUST WRONG!

I'm glad you noticed that as linoleum is great for flooring and counter tops yet offers limited therapeutic efficacy

I feel so bad for you and can also relate! I have a young Doctor fresh out of Med school who does not believe in pain treatment or the Xanax that I have used for years for a multitude of issues and like you mentioned, muscles and migraine headaches which are due to a neuro disease that I have had all of my life. One of our Nation top highly recognized Psychiatrist put me on this medicine and I am now weaning off of it (slowly) because I had a convulsion when my Doctor tried to do it to quickly! I am currently being treated for pain at a pain clinic, but I know a day is coming when that treatment will stop. (They have told me that it is coming) What you describe scares the heck out of me! I had gone through a major weaning process and found myself exactly where you are which was in bed not wanting to move much. I feel so bad for you and can relate so much to your story. People are being forced to suffer now and it isn't right. My heart goes out to you. I want to say, don't give up. I was about ready to give up and was asking my husband to shoot me when I had no pain control. If you look at prior post that I made, you will see where I live and what State I came from and not everyone coming from that State is an addict. I have medical, documented proof and my Doctor thinks that swimming is the cure all. Yes, swimming does help, but when one is in to much pain to get out of bed to even drive somewhere to go swimming is something that I am sure you can relate to. There are many of us suffering and you are not alone and found a good place to talk to others that understand your situation. I do hope that the Gov't is watching and reading our post. (They watch everything) How many of them that are "able" to work even have an idea of what it is like to be put down in bed unable to function and live due to pain? Not many! I bet some of the young Doctors fresh out of Med school with this "new training" has never spent a day having true pain. The people who are involved in making these decisions to make drugs harder to get for the people that abuse them have no idea what is happening to so many who need the medicine in order to even function. I am being weaned of my meds once again and I know what will come in the future as I will be lying in bed useless to anyone including myself. I am going to do something that I never thought I would ever have to do. I am actually going to advertise for a local Doctor who has a different outlook on medicine in comparison to my young Doctor who thinks swimming is the answer to everything! Thank-you for posting! I feel your emotional pain and can relate to the physical pain. I have a huge hole (degenerative disc) in my neck and without pain control, I can not hold my head up and wear a neck brace and sometimes wear a neck brace with meds on board. This is only one of many proven and documented issues. I have proof and they still don't want to treat me. I walk in the same shoes as you often and am shedding tears for a person that I do not know. So many are suffering needlessly thanks to the people who have abused the meds and the DEA/ (Gov't) if someone is affiliated with either one and reading this, then I would like to know why we hire high end renowned, Nationally recognized Doctors that prescribe these medicines and then if one has to move to another State, why are the laws so varied from State to State in the same Nation? I even have back up letters from these highly recognized Doctors stating that I have a sundry of issues which are all substantiated on medical findings. Why did I take all of these test that cost thousands of dollars only to turn around and not be treated just because I moved to another State where people don't know me. They knew me where I came from and helped me and in my new location that was exposed on old post, there is no help and it just sickens me. All people who suffer should be able to live as much of a quality life as possible. The suicide rate will be going through the roof if you do not allow those who suffer a source of pain control. My heart bleeds for so many. Do any of you have a heart for those who suffer? Please help us! This lady has real pain that puts her in bed not able to move. I do too! My brother does! So many are crying out for help and not finding it. Your helping the people who abuse drugs, but you are not helping the people who don't abuse and need their medicine in order to function. Please take a closer look at what your doing and I do hope that someone in our Gov't has a heart, reads this and will work on a program to benefit all. Why should the people in pain be allowed to die just because others have chosen to kill themselves with a slow death called abuse. Now everyone and both ends are dying. This is not justice. We as a people need to unite and put the word out that we are sick and need medicines that are unfortunatly, abused, but we are not the abusers! Don't make the sick people continue to suffer, please. America = The land of suicide

Some info that may help others in need. I got kicked off and scrambled in severe wd to find relief. Google: online marketplace drugs. The site your looking for should come up. After that Google the site name and tutorial to keep you safe. Dealers will approach you at any Narc Anon meeting or any needle exchange table in your city. The best bet is to keep seeing doctors until you find someone willing to write a scrip for what you need. You can also seek out doctors who are not ethically opposed to prescribing methadone. They are more willing to do medication management and prescribe you what you need PLUS no worries about appearing to be drug seeking whether you are or you aren't.

BILLY- I have recently had to move back to long island area after a divorce. I have been on medications, the same ones for years, since about the age of 17 ish. Its a PTSD situation. severe panic attacks. I came back up here, with my prescription lists, and showing what i hav ebeen on, records transferred and the Dr goes a TOTALLY different route and I am back to square one. Almost like "he is the better dr, knows best, and lets try this out instead.." - I rebounded right back in the worst way. I am simply trying to go back to my regular medications. I cannot keep on paying 50.00 co pays to walk out empty handed. Mind you, I am 29 now, going through a divorce thats pretty bad on top of all of this. I am just trying to get my regular dosage, and keep it at that. I never went early to refill, I never go to other doctors. But I am noticing a trend in a lot of dr's that a) they refer you straight to a psychiatrist, b) the psychiatrist throws you on at the least 2-3 medications at a time. So I dont feel comfortable when I had it down to 2 medications that worked well, and I was able to cope. Do you have any suggestions/ advice/ etc.?

Hi Vickie. One of the major problems is that doctors who refuse to prescribe benzos to a patient who is already dependent or addicted (two different things) on them is really not helping. In order to get safely off benzos you need a well-planned lengthy taper. Without a proper taper you can have serious life-threatening side effects. Some withdrawal symptoms from rapid tapers, abrupt withdrawals, or just getting off the dang meds, can last the rest of your life!

Medical negligence if they prescribe to you and medical negligence if they don't. I'm sorry you're in pain every day. I'm in horrible pain too and back on the med. Convulsions, seizures, etc... will never go away for me apparently.
