Need Help About Intuniv Side Effects

My son is 8 and he has autism. He has never been on medication before. He is now on Intuniv and today was the 2nd day he took it. His blood pressure was low, he was vomiting and slept out of the ordinary. Unfortunately the Dr never told me that foods high in fat increases the side effects. I'm afraid to keep giving it. He is only on 1 mg any suggestions? Thanks

Here is some information on side effects associated with Intuniv:

Usual (or common) side effects: dizziness, drowsiness, headache, depression, constipation, gas pains, diarrhea, loss of appetite, fatigue, and nasal congestion may occur.[16]

Rare side effects: chest pain, shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the hands or feet, blurred vision, yellowing of the eyes or skin.

My recommendation is that you follow your doctor's advice and be sure to keep foods that are high in fat out of your sons diet- it's odd that he didn't tell you to do that sooner. If changing his diet doesn't help any I'd speak with your doctor about trying a different medication. Also, keep in mind that it can take time for the body to get acclimated to medication so the side effects could go away- but if they are severe then I believe it's safest to find something else as soon as possible.
