Technically, any doctor can prescribe it.
However, the recent changes to regulations and the push from the DEA to get better control of medications such as this means that it's most likely that a general practitioner won't prescribe it for you long-term, but instead will refer you to a specialist for counseling and medications, if needed.
The best thing you can do is just find yourself a new doctor first, rather than trying to find one that will prescribe Xanax. Asking them if they'll do that, before you're an established patient is considered a red flag for drug seeking behavior by most and they'll usually not even let you get in the door. Once you have an appointment with a new doctor, make sure that they receive a copy of your most recent medical records, either by having your prior physician send them or by carrying a copy in yourself. When they can see what has and hasn't worked for you in the past, as documented by fellow physicians, they will be more apt to prescribe accordingly.
Although, as I said, it may only be a short-term prescription, while they refer you to a specialist.
Does anyone know of any specific good doctors in the area that they can recommend?
Dr. Yanamandala in Creve core prescribes Xanax pretty liberally and just by writing that you have received it in the past will likely get you what ever you tell them you have been taking before! Don't miss your appointments if you miss two they will dismiss you as a patient and another doctor in that office will take over your care and start weening you off of them ASAP!!
Dr.Brenda Buckley will prescribe zs for anxiety attacks let herknow u have tried buspurone and colonopin first n the did work.....say you can barely drive much lesswalk into walgreens or walmart
Re: Big Scott (# 2)
Ive been on Xanax my whole life. I have severe anxiety & insomnia. My new dr only gives me 1 mg, 20 pills. I can’t function on this small dose.
Re: Laura Sieker (# 4)
Laura, why not look for a new M.D., 20 pills monthly is ridiculous. When I first was given Xanax years ago I got 10 .25 Xanax. Later on in life I was getting 100 times that amount. While I never took all this medicine, I amassed a giant pile of Xanax which I still have. Xanax is a dangerous drug and I use it every day, sparingly.
Re: EDDY (# 5)
ITS THE HUMANS THAT ARE DANGEROUS, NOT THE PRESCRIBED MEDICATION. HUMANS MESS EVERYTHING UP.
Re: Jen (# 6)
Yes the Humans, ever since COVID it's CRAZY out there
I’m 40 and I have tried everything from non narcotic to benzodiazepines and I’m to the point where I don’t want to leave my house or keep living because my anxiety and depression is so bad. The doctor I have now treats me like I’m on parole or something, I can’t take it anymore.
Re: EDDY (# 5)
I stopped getting Xanax and I need it really bad. Can you refer me to a doctor who will prescribe it?
I'm in need of an understanding doctor who will prescribe me the medication that works for me - Xanax. I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) along with socially debilitating panic and PTSD. It's as if these issues are holding hands, skipping around, and taking charge in my brain. I'm a prior opiate user. I don't take them recreationally; I need them to feel comfortable in my own skin. Every other treatment I've tried hasn't worked and I've been a guinea pig for countless doctors, always without success.
Currently, I have state health insurance in Missouri and live in the St. Louis area. I desperately need help. I've tried reaching out to numerous doctors, but none are taking patients at the moment. My previous doctor, I believe, is no longer practicing. I used to visit the emergency room almost monthly, but I'm really trying to get out of debt. It doesn't help that I'm always given a two-week supply of medication as that's all they can give.
If anyone can help or recommend a professional, please do so.
