Need A Doctor That Prescribes Methadone (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been prescribed methadone already for chronic pain but I moved. Now I need a Dr. In FL willing to write a methadone prescription. I have records from my Dr. for last 4yrs. I have Fibromyalgia,Lumbar Disc Disease and Degenarating Spine. I cannot afford a clinic nor transportation. If anyone knows of ANY Dr. that will give me my methadone without an MRI located in FL (Daytona Beach) but willing to travel. Please help with info. of Dr. Name , address, phone etc. Thanx

I don't know where I'm going to move it was going to be Florida but after seeing these posts... I don't think so! It is really a shame that I cannot return to my homes date because I only need three paint those today and I don't not think I will get them! I surely wish that all the people that put such unreasonable controls over pain pills for decent honest people in chronic pain, will one day feel the same pain that we do and they will wish they had some pills too
Hello, Krissy! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.
As to the clinic, if you want to be treated for pain, then you should stay away from them. Under current federal laws, a doctor can't prescribe Methadone for anything other than pain, clinics must be used for addiction treatment. If you are in pain and go to a clinic, the fact that it was an addiction clinic is noted in your medical records and it would be illegal to a regular doctor to prescribe it for you. I just wanted to make sure you know about that, since there have been many people who've posted that aren't aware of this and end up between a rock and a hard place.
According to the FDA, this is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Regarding the MRI, almost all pain management specialists are going to want you to undergo testing, in order for them to treat you and to be better aware of your condition and the best treatment options. Your records will help, but they still might want some current tests to take place.
Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?
I moved to Jacksonville Florida in 2007 and I'm in chronic pain due to and almost fatal car accident, 2 neck surgeries and peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet and other Diabetic issues. I was on massive amounts of oxycontin and percocet for breakthrough pain after my accident for 12 years. When I moved to Florida I didn't know any doctors who would put me on the amount of medicine I was on so I put myself into a detox program to try to get off the medicine completely because I was so sick with withdrawals. needless to say that was a nightmare because 3 days there and at the end of the day I still have the pain to deal with on top of the withdrawals. My 3rd day there I was told by somebody who was trying to detox off of opiates themselves, to go to a methadone clinic to help me get off of the high amounts of narcotics I was taking so I got myself out of the detox center and went to a methadone clinic and I've been there ever since. If I only knew years ago how good the methadone would help with my pain and all the chasing around trying to find the narcotics that I was running out of all the time, I would have looked into it years ago. However it cost me $500 a month for the methadone clinic but because the methadone clinic is for addiction they will not talk to you about pain management at all. So I finally found a doctor in Jacksonville, a pain manager actually who would be willing to prescribe me methadone and he actually told me to stay at the clinic because he couldn't prescribe me anything more than 60mgs a day. My dose is 190 a day. He was mentioning the DEA and all the pill mills that it's impossible to find a doctor to prescribe methadone and if you do anything higher than 60mgs unless you've already been going to this doctor for many years and he's willing to do it, it's actually trying to find a pharmacy to fill anything higher than 60mgs a day that's become the problem. he told me that if I could wean myself down to a 1000mgs a day he would write a prescription for me for a 100mgs a day and see if I could fill it but he doubts it. But his recommendation was to stay at the methadone clinic if what I'm taking works and then go see him once a month for trigger point inj's. and other kinds of therapy. So if you do find a doctor willing to prescribe you methadone good luck trying to find a pharmacy that will fill it anything higher than 60mgs a day. It has become so frustrating and so expensive and doctors and Pharmacy are running scared I guess. I wish you all the luck in the world. At least I'm in a place where I could live inside my own skin. Not necessarily the way I'd like to do it but its working so it is what it is!
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Verwon is correct. If you are a chronic pain patient...don't lower yourself to go to a Methadone Clinic...it's for addicts and the like. For chronic pain patients, TAKE Your Records to a new doctor and "Interview him". You do not need a Methadone Clinic. You are a pain patient, not an addict...just habituated due to your injuries. RECORDS......bring them, along w/ an empty Methadone bottle and I pray you didn't overuse the date on that bottle or U will be out of luck. Blessings
